    Cruz claims the Biden Student Debt Relief Act will cost the average tax payer $2,100. “Wow” (his words).

    Newsweek says…

    “Cruz is not necessarily wrong to claim that the debt could cost Americans taxpayers, on average, $2,100 each, but there’s more to it than that.” Deadly first punch.

    “This analysis is not necessarily incorrect but it does miss some details.” They have Cruz on the ropes.

    And finally the actual answer…

    “So, not only will the current policy be financed by government borrowing (and therefore not have an immediate tax burden), calculating an average cost now probably wouldn’t accurately predict what its eventual tax bill might be.”

    In other words, it’s not really money because the government is borrowing (and there is no tax burden) and you can’t predict what it will cost taxpayers anyway, so therefore, Cruz is wrong.

    If the average American thinks that borrowing money doesn’t have an immediate tax burden, or that taxpayers won’t be paying for it some day (hint: they are already paying through runaway inflation) then there is no hope for fiscal responsibility. Just keep borrowing.

  32. Whenever I see this movie, I think of spouse’s uncle who spent WW II crossing the Atlantic as a merchant seaman in the engine rooms of various ships. He never spoke of his service but, when I asked, made some comment to the effect that, should the alarm ring, he would be first up the ladder (which I never did believe). The Canadian government was far too slow to recognize the sacrifices of the merchant seamen, but finally did. At Uncle’s funeral, his medals (belatedly granted) were proudly displayed as his granchildren’s insistence.
