  5. According to the CBC Ukraine wants Canada to cancel a sanctions waiver that would allow a repaired turbine returned to Russia via Germany for use in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.

    Direct from the Prime Minister’s office, a letter pledging support “including our unwavering support for Ukraine, protecting peace and security in Europe and around the world, and addressing the broader global impacts of Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable invasion.”

    A few paragraphs down …

    “The turbine had been under repairs at Siemens’ Montreal facility, the only location in the world capable of maintaining the equipment. It was delivered to Germany and was supposed to go to Russia from there, but Russian authorities have so far refused to accept it.”

    Ukraine wants Canada not to ship the turbine, Germany wants to ship the turbine to Russia, Russia won’t accept the turbine and it has already been shipped to Germany from Canada. How can you cancel a permit when you have already delivered the turbine? How can you claim “unwavering support” for Ukraine when you shipped the turbine?

    Meanwhile natural gas prices nearing records, Euro falling to parity with USD and British pound collapsing. A drought across USA and Europe is threatening fall food production. Popcorn futures looking rosy.

    1. My understanding is that there are 6 turbines in total. One has been repaired and returned. The ruskies are incapable of keeping the turbines operating.

      The Russians can’t produce the goods and services they want. They sell oil/gas to the world and then use the cash to purchase goods made in the west.

      Schlumberger Haliburton and companies like that have a big presence in their oil patch.

  10. Funny thing about Three Days of the Condor. It has been a very long time since I’ve seen it, but I remember at the end there is a threat to go to the press to expose government corruption. They show newspapers in the background being loaded up from the New York Times. I really can’t imagine the NYT exposing government corruption today.

  12. Hollywood is now completely incapable of making a movie of the calibre of “Three Days of the Condor”, and the best they can do now is a few cheap thrills without preaching commie claptrap, eg the recent “Top Gun” movie.

  14. The media in this country continues to embarrass themselves over Lisa LaFlamme’s firing. They’ve gathered round howling the old canards of sexism,ageism and hair color.

    The bottom line is CTV decided to go in a new direction. Digital. The 11 o’clock news with the big anchor is finished. They hired a torpedo (Melling) to compete the task. A power struggle developed between Melling and LL. She lost and my guess is Bell didn’t want it to go the way it did but she persisted. She overestimated her value and push came to shove. Move on.
