  1. Looks like the sprinklers worked.

Most people wouldn’t park a moped with a full tank of gas in their bedroom.

    Electric privilege.

    1. e-Bikes (especially the ones with low efficiency, high-rolling resistance fat tires) are considered cool so you can’t leave them out or they get stolen. Imagine how many of them there are in apartment buildings right now?

      1. While out hiking I saw a guy ripping around the trails near me on one of those fat tired e-bikes, must have passed me a dozen times. When I got back home and threw on YouTube the first ad I saw was featuring the very gentleman who passed me not 20 minutes earlier. Strange

  2. Charging any battery can result in a fire, but most people are too cheap to buy good chargers that have the proper circuitry in them

  3. Seems to me these E-Bikes n Scooters have ZERO Business being allowed in Wood Framed residences.

But hey, if they off a few hundred dozen virtue signaling imbeciles it’s all good no…? well, one might think so (collateral damage), but in my case, I live in an 82 unit condo, top floor in a 4 flr building: Wood Framed….and have zero interest in being part of said collateral damage.

Something I’ll be Definitely bringing up to Condo management

    1. You are absolutely correct. The building codes prevent all manner of highly flammable materials and finishes from buildings. You should know, however, if your building is relatively new … the building and fire codes for 4-story wood frame buildings are some of the MOST restrictive building codes with 1- hr fire rated exit corridors, 1-hr fire rated exterior walls, 2-hr area separation walls, fire sprinklers, areas of refuge … and many more life-safety features.

But all it takes is one Yahoo to TEST all those systems

  4. Electric bikes, cars, and mowers are getting better, but if I ever get one, I am going to keep them in an out building. Then I’m going to prep that building with a fire proof interior and fire suppression.

A new age of detached garages is upon us. That’s not a bad thing.

  5. Of course these are all made in China… And well all know Chinese made stuff has such a stellar safety record.

  6. Fat tires are made for riding in snow, sand, other loose terrain.
E-bikes are good things, despite this site’s constant Karen fear-mongering.

    1. I agree. However, point taken that batteries are improving in total energy stored and e-bikes are increasing in popularity. This increases the chances of a charging fire and the resulting danger (which is significant – imagine 200 condos, 50 of which have e-bikes charging inside) and it is important to bring these things up.

I had a condo in Toronto with a terrace that included a natural gas outlet for my BBQ. One day the fire alarm went off. It was due to a grease fire in an adjacent building. Shortly after they went through each unit to check the BBQs – if it wasn’t connected to the building’s natural gas it had to be removed. Make sense? Not really. Also in my condo they decided not to put e-plugs in the underground parking lot. So pick your poison. Fires from cooking french-fries, e-bikes over-charging, EVs exploding or a BBQ fire?

  7. I am enticed but putting this thing in my garage that has my bedroom above it.. In not sold.. If I had a shed or garage that was stand alone I would feel differently.. I know its rare.. But not owning one brings the number down to zero..

Still, its enticing.. Flying around 5x better than you did when you were 15 years old is worth exploring.. E bikes don’t suck.. In fact its the only green offering that’s up for the job.. The sales figures prove this without a doubt..

  8. I do a considerable amount of biking you might say and I’ll never understand the logic behind fat tires…unless you’re biking the Appalachian trail or just want the extra workout load which it will surely give you, of what use are they on smooth trails or paved roads which is where I see them all of the time.
    I SMDH every time.
