This should be a reader’s tip but I want someone, anyone, to read it. Why this? Well, I was musing today how one history book can delve more deeply into a subject than any video documentary series could. I was inspired to this thought by a grandson asking why I was reading that 600 page book on the Chinese cultural revolution; an event that I lived through via the medium of the BBC as a kid.
In response, here is the best video argument for such a documentary superiority over a book. Start at the beginning. There are 26 episodes and I saw this at the same time as the aforesaid cultural revolution. It truly is a diamond amongst historical documentaries. If you only learnt of WWI from this doumentry, you would need to read no more.
