Before the Russia-Ukraine conflict began, the two countries supplied a combined one third of the world’s wheat exports and were in the top five exporters of corn. Coupled with widespread fertilizer shortages, supply chain issues and record droughts, the world has about 10 weeks worth of wheat on hand, Menker said.

China has been hoarding grains for over a year.

In Saskatchewan, overall spring seeding is running behind schedule, due to cold and wet.

    1. Since 2017 wife and I have been preparing on our lake acreage in northern Ontario. No neighbors and tons of crown land.
      Leave big cities now, learn new handy skills and amass cash & stuff to barter later.
      It’s all over.

      1. We have done the same. million acres of crown land and a spring-fed lake as our neighbours. We do need a greenhouse. I just don’t know which one to buy.

  5. I’m confused by the 10 week basis for this claim.

    Russia And Ukraine would not be harvesting in 10 weeks would they? This problem must be more involved than just the war then.

    I suspect our “leaders” have found the perfect patsy to try and hide behind for their incompetence.

      I’m not a farmer but I’m guessing we are still eating off last years harvest and storage. Some southerly US states have earlier crops and some x2 crops per year.

      1. The farmers here have silos full of grains.
        This year they may get a better price with the manufactured ‘crisis’.

    3. The Month of February is the only month of the year when wheat is not harvested. It is an internationally traded commodity. One consequence of the explosion of the ‘fireworks’ in the port district of Beirut, Lebanon was the wrecking of their grain handling facilities. f government would leave the market alone it will correct itself. Innovation and profit will do more to correct a shortage than any govt program.

    The best way to suck money off of the plebeians is to create crisis that is immediate and life threatening, that way they, the low lifes, can impose more and more restrictions on the plebeians.
    The guy that got all this together is familiar with National Socialism also known as NAZI’sm to distract from the long definition.   12. In southern Manitoba there’s been exactly zero seeding. I saw a tractor on a field for the first time yesterday. He was spraying, not seeding.

    When it starts it will be an absolute blitz.

  13. I recall during the days of the Soviet Union when the Russians had more acreage under cultivation but couldn’t even feed their own people. Canada sent a lot of wheat to them back then, a lot of farmers became wealthy.

    Some time ago I recall seeing something about what would happen if the northern grain supplies failed. A lot of heavily populated countries would be in a starvation situation. Egypt, for example with 105 million people imports 80% of its wheat.

    Does anyone think they would just stay home and slowly starve? I wouldn’t. Millions of invaders would overwhelm Europe. At first the Europeans would let them in like they have been for decades, and when they finally realized they have to brutally repel them, it would be too late.

    1. Xi is bucking for a third term as president at the upcoming CCP congress in October. He’s promising the party to make Taiwan China again and, I’m sure, a few other things as well.
