    1. Well Kenji, common sense does not apply to Turdoo and his line of thought. He cannot grasp the concept that the more crimes a certain segment of society commits(whites, Asian, blacks, Natives, whatever else), then the more of them end up arrested and charged, all things being equal. If the criminal mindset is higher in certain non-whites than other segments, then of fucking course more will end up in jail in disproportionate numbers. Oh wait, perhaps he should bring in a type of ‘affirmative action’ to jail more whites as much as possible using offences as speeding or littering or low restuarant tipping to up the white numbers. Just to be clear, I am not lecturing you as we are on the same page regarding this topic. I am just ranting.

  11. Mandatory minimums are a stupid idea and have been proven, every time they’ve been instituted, to reduce both convictions and length of sentences.

    The law is an incredibly blunt instrument, which is why we grant judges and defense/prosecution counsel leeway to determine sentencing. Faced with a defendant who manifestly does not deserve the blunt minimum sentence a law mandates, juries will choose to acquit (or hang). Knowing this, prosecutors will proffer charges with a lesser sentence in the hopes of getting any conviction.

    I’ll believe any politician is “tough on crime” when I see them advocating policies that actually reduce crime instead of pandering to their base’s visceral desire for vengeance.

      I had a black friend murdered by an Indian-criminal who spent less than two years in jail for the crime so I really really really can’t tell you what I think of your opinion on punishment/vengeance.

    2. The only really effective way to reduce crime is to lockup criminals. The longer you lock them up for the longer they won’t be out doing crimes. If they get out and don’t recommit great but most do until they’re too old to.

    3. Mandatory minimums were first introduced by Liberals– expanded by Conservatives. A concern was that criminals were simply being released back into the community. People were afraid to report crimes for fear of retaliation. The situation allowed criminal gangs to terrorize communities — always poor and often black communities. I know of one disabled woman who had two murders happen her apartment building in the course of a year. Middle class people don’t have to worry so much as most do not live in high crime areas. They can. . . you know . . . just rely on statistics to tell them what is happening on the ground. I think mandatory minimums are a good idea.

    that it is not that dog owners are victims of some grave injustice by dog owner haters

    but when leftists and their media say that , for example, blacks are disproportionately impacted by gun violence or prison sentence, they want the public to think it is because of an injustice, because of racism

    but the truth is that blacks have crime rates far higher than whites which is why they are impacted more than whites.

    Blacks are impacted more because they do more of what gets them to be impacted more

    punishing every non-black for Black high crime rates will not fix the problem.

  25. Former law enforcement officer here. Indigenous and black people are incarcerated at a rate LOWER than their rate of participation in serious crime. There should me more black and indigenous people in jail. Amongst other things, it would keep their communities safer.

  26. Regardless, mandatory minimums are terrible policy that does nothing to reduce (real) crime and more importantly abrogates due process rights. They are gradually being repealed in America for very good reason.
