Civil rights is a feel-good moral issue. Abortion? For normal people—people who aren’t like the SCOTUS clerk who surreptitiously leaked the Alito draft—abortion is not a feel-good issue, and never will be. For most “pro-choicers” abortion is at best a necessary evil. Isgur will demonstrate the difference that makes in practical politics.
Abortion will not be the dominant issue this autumn. There is a bigger failure that dooms Democrats. Voters will make them pay for inflation and a crumbling economy. Based on the Producer Price Index hitting 11.2% in March, Democrats can expect double-digit inflation by September because the PPI is a great predictor of inflation six months out.

There are fewer abortions today than before Roe. They have plunged along with live births. Even teens aren’t having nearly as much sex as they used to. (Why bother with so much porn on their phones?)

They are trying to frighten people by claiming the Reds will actually take steps you would take if you were serious about eradicating abortion: executing women for having abortions, executing abortionists and peddlers of abortion pills, forcing women of childbearing age to take monthly pregnancy tests, or insisting that they ask for their husband’s or father’s permission to leave the state or country unescorted (and making hubby and daddy criminally liable for the abortion afterwards).
For better or worse, nothing of the sort is likely to happen.
Should Roe be overturned? Obviously. But it won’t do much good.

And the simple truth is this…..the issue isn’t about abortion at all….it is about a federal government that is attempting to grow its power over State rights. The same thing is happening in Canada. That is the real battle…..and the States and Provinces need to fight back against the fascist centralization of federal power.

I detected a glitch in the narrative that I may not be able to articulate. Something about the Democrats getting out virtually all the voters the last election so there are no more to troll for.

And so the glitch goes something like this. 30% of voters will vote Republican regardless and 30% will vote Democrat. That leaves about 40% who will vote for the issues over the party. If you don’t know how THESE people will vote in November you could be in trouble. Stop polling Republicans and start polling Independents.
If you believe the turnout numbers for those reasons and that Brandon actually got 81 million votes, I have a bridge to sell you. Drop boxes and voting machines “defeated” Trump.

Surber is quite right. In this respect, Canada and the United States are no different: the voters will always vote with their wallets on things which affect them immediately and dramatically. Bill Clinton, (despised be his name perpetually along with his murderous bitch of a wife), understood this perfectly well in 1992 with, “It’s about the economy, stupid.” Bush I was doomed from his inability to do anything serious about the 1991-92 recession. The Democrats could have run a pregnant donkey as candidate and it would have thrashed Bush Sr.
