Magical thinking

If I had a dime for every time a government predicted a budgetary surplus while simultaneously promising billions in new spending on a host of money-losing boondoggles, I might have enough to buy Twitter too. This question comes to mind: with “conservatives” like Ford in charge, who needs the Liberals?

Despite investments and enticements for voters — including a promise to invest more than $85 billion over the next 10 years to build highways, transit and other infrastructure projects to fight gridlock, boost the economy and create jobs — Ontario is projected to return to a surplus position by 2027–28.

  1. Ford’s spending plans make sense. You may not like him but… compare it with the other parties platforms.
Yah, I know I’m gonna get heat for this.

    1. We have already been victimized by the liberal government of McGuinty and Wynn and who can forget the disasterous years of Buffalo Bob Raes debacle of a government. The Conservatives had to deal with the pandemic for more than two years and every government in North America was blind sided by that, and mistakes were made by all of them in the minefield they found themselves in. Doug Ford may have room for improvement but he is a lot less dangerous that the other choices.

      1. Kathleen Wynne in a fat suit. He is evil. Never vote for Ford or any of his cabinet ministers.

  2. Conservatives like these must look at the political spectrum and surmise that since they have the so-called right sewn up, they can push their agenda as far to the left as possible covering the spectrum sufficiently to pick up the so-called centrists and center-left in the process. The reality is the left wouldn’t vote for them no mater how deranged they became but they could certainly drive their base to stay at home on election day. Even in light of the recent federal election where the same kind of Conservatives proved this thesis correct, they continue. Perhaps the memory of Wynne and her predecessors hasn’t faded sufficiently, allowing Conservative Ford another Liberal term.

  3. I am not voting PC. 4F (Fat F**k Failure Ford) might pull this off (with 338 Canada-Ontario projecting a 70% chance of a PC majority, and a 97% chance of winning the most seats). If he does succeed, it will be without my support.

Having said that, PCPO’s are trending downward, while OLP is trending up, with more than a month remaining before the election.

Did 4F not learn the lesson from the Tool? We shall find out.

      1. The Ford family is still wildly popular in their suburb of Toronto. Doug owns that seat for as long as he wants it.

  4. I have a great idea for combatting gridlock. Make your place a literal shithole so only f***ing third world shithole inhabitants would want to move there. Sound familiar?

    1. Most of it was created by 12 years of liberal government buying solar panels and bird blenders and paying more money for a KWH than they were taking in from hydro billing. Most of these green solutions will be approaching the end of their life cycle in the next 6-7 years what happens then and where does the money come from? The offshore companies that provided most of that equipment are already salivating over the future prospects of replacing the thousands and thousands of these units. Plus adding many more that will be required to charge all the electric vehicles you will be forced to drive after Justine eradicates the fossil fuel industry. Do not believe what you are being told by the bought and paid for Canadian media, they are in the business of promoting Trudeaus agenda and they are cashing the checks they receive for doing so.

    2. Ford created debt in Ontario at a faster rate than Wynne/McGuinty. Ford is as bad as Bob Rae.
Ford is awful. Never vote for Ford or any of his cabinet ministers of the last 4 years ever. Never.

  5. Interesting they have taken to projecting surplus just after the end of the mandate they seek. Kind of a rolling average “someday”

  6. A political promise of balanced budget and fiscal responsibility is worth exactly as much as a Promise of Help by Government.
    Lies,damned lies and statistics..
“We will be back in ‘Surplus’ by always a date just beyond belief”.
And then “It was the last guys, even though we held power right along with them, via our Uni-Party system,it is always the fault of the last guys.

    Debt always grows.
Parasitic Overload, that ratio of Taker upon Maker, always grows.
Theft from the citizen by government ever expands.

And for these “public services” we will be obliged to pay out very handsome retirement pensions..
We are forced by government to reward the parasites for the waste and destruction they have wrought..
    This is “Good Government”.
