1. A toddler’s behaviour can often be changed by disciplinary action. Politicians can be spanked at the polls and carry on as if nothing had happened.

   1. Not immediate feedback, therefore less effective.

      Like trying to discipline a dog for taking a dump on the rug a week after it’s happened. The brain isn’t strong enough and the memory isn’t long enough for them to understand why you’re mad.

2. “thinking we wouldn’t notice all the … unthinkable mountains of radioactive debt that will be glowing red hot for generations to come.”

   Who is this ‘we’, Mr. Oliver? The average voter couldn’t care less about ‘debt’. That is, someone else’s debt. Government’s very job is to print money. Then to manage inflation. And then to institute price controls. And then to deal with shortages. And then to revive the economy. By printing money. Lather, rinse and repeat. If that doesn’t work, raise taxes. Someone else’s taxes.

   The leaders we have are chosen by toddlers.
