Western Standard- Canada ranks in the bottom ten countries in the world on its Personal Freedom Ranking score languishing beside the likes of Lebanon, Mali, and Ukraine.
Update: Complaints in the comment section about this ranking prompted me to look a little deeper. There is indeed a discrepancy.
The Western Standard did report the ranking accurately from the website they got it from. Namely worldreview.com . That website links back to The Cato Institute’s Freedom Index Scrolling down the pdf of the report to page 21(page 27 of pdf) the personal freedom(PF) rank for Canada is #8.
Which one is correct? I don’t know for sure but I’m inclined to believe the Cato website.

You can score high on overall human freedom, but quite low on personal freedom. They’re not 100% correlated. And they can change fairly rapidly depending on (amongst other things) a government’s ham-fisted public policies. After all, The Hair That Walks Like A Man™ addressed the European Parliament today and received a dressing-down for some of his more egregious, freedom-denying moves from other members of that parliament.
If you don’t like the fact that external observers see a country wherein personal freedoms are eroding, perhaps you should do something to change the observed problems that led to such a ranking, rather than just whining about how the rest of us no longer view Canada through the lens of its perception as a free country just a few years ago.

Neither is correct. Those indices are completely useless.
First, they select an arbitrary list of variables.
Second, they measure them on arbitrary scales.
Third, they assign arbitrary weights to each component of the index.
At the end with the same data you can arrive at opposite conclusions.
Freedom in most civilized places is dying a death of thousand cuts, most who claim to be pro freedom are unwilling to fight even a delaying action. Freedom in most of turd world never existed in the first place.
