        1. I investigated small-scale renewable systems for my Ph. D. research. My model used commercially-available wind turbine generators with rotors about a metre or so in diameter. They would be suitable for a lot of applications.

        I see small solar panels in isolated areas as I drive heavy trucks off road. It’s these areas where renewables shine. Similar to windmills on farms running various equipment, like water pumps on wells until commercial power arrived. I saw a few setups that were clever indeed.

        No commercial setup makes money on its own without subsidies or large power bills.

        I say that as a fan of these since I was young. The technology, like battery technology, just isn’t there.

          Sometimes you just can’t reason with your neighbors.
          You try EVERY avenue including money and still can’t get a satisfactory solution to a mutual problem.

          1. I just think that it isn’t proper to ask civilians untrained in the use of heavy armaments to do something that the country’s military is supposed to be trained to do.
            These weapons can be more dangerous to the untrained civilian carrying them, than it is to the enemy they are asked to defend against.
            If you’re going to conscript citizens to fight battles that are supposed to be fought by the military, then at the very least give them the proper training to handle the weapons they’re being asked to use.
            Don’t use citizens as fodder for the enemy. That’s what I think is happening, and it’s just plain immoral.

Most of them are men and can’t leave of course so some are working in molotov cocktail factories. All have or are working to try and get their wives and children out.

    Some are trapped in Kharkiv facing shelling with no way out. One man drove 40 hours to get his family out while he must stay in lyviv. His parents are too old to travel and their apartment in Kharkiv has all it’s windows smashed in -2 degree weather. I can’t describe to you what it’s like to hear these stories from these people.

See for example the second Iraq war where half of NATO abstained. They only have to come to each other’s defense. And the nations most adamant about not invading russia are russia’s neighbors, who joined the alliance for one purpose only, which is to be safe from the russian cancer.

            Besides, Serbs were asking for it ever since they attacked Slovenia and then Croatia. They deserved it. Pity NATO stopped Croatian patriots from completing Operation Storm. Mentally Serbs are mini russians really. Same adidas track suits too.

  17. I have an unpopular question about the Russian Oligarchs. Why are “we” stealing their assets? Have they been charged with a crime? Can “we” steal anyone’s assets? Maybe take all of Elon Musk’s money and Jeff Bezos’ super yacht? Because they’re assholes?

    I know these people (the Oligarchs) are unpopular. I didn’t like them before Russia invaded Ukraine. But for now, aren’t they just Russian citizens? Governments around the world are confiscating private assets and it won’t stop with the Russian Oligarchs.

  28. I know how to solve the problem with Russia attacking the Ukraine. Russia is an absolute shithole with a dismal standard of living. NATO countries and others should offer permanent visas to 10 million young Russian families giving them decent pay for a year of intense language lessons. Hollow out the country by stealing it’s tax base.
