    2. Not surprising. Polling by Ipsos-Reid shows that support for the truckers among those 18-35 is over 60%. That’s the NDP voter pool if any. Support for truckers declines as people age, but the general trend is the older people are the more conservative they are. So Jagmeet’s in serious trouble with his demographic for this alone.

    I think when people look at the economic fundamentals of Canada, which are in steep decline, the sovereign debt load to gdp of Ottawa and the Provinces.

    Really though, once it is passed by parliament Singh has no say. Trudeau will adjourn parliament after it is passed and the deed will be done.

    1. Therein lies the problem. Trudeau can slow-roll the actions under the Act until after he gets the votes he needs from the Commons/Senate. Then it’s damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

      ‘Course, I’m sure that his actions following these extended powers with no oversight will all be in accordance with the Charter, especially governments’ favourite part: “1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.”

      His government (really, just him) gets to determine what “reasonable limits” actually are. The Charter of Rights isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.

  11. Hmm. Invoking the Act itself is a sign of overreach, but Singh had no problems with it initially and indeed, signalled that he and the NDP would support it. Now he’s back-peddalling. This can only mean that the polls are not favourable. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to voice your displeasure with your local MP. AND with each Party.
    These MPs aren’t hardened political insurectionists and revolutionaries patiently plotting for the correct time to strike; they’re craven cowards who would sell their own grandmothers if they thought that would keep them with their power and entitlements.

    1. Just perhaps he’s received some backlash from the many Sikhs who are in the trucking industry and who support the blockade. He owns his seat to Sikh support; he could lose it should they decide to go elsewhere.
