  13. Even among elites there seems to be a very hesitant approval of this and I would say this is the beginning of the end of the Trudeau leadership, if the NDP doesn’t go along then a non-confidence vote could follow within weeks. Even a significant Liberal caucus revolt would seem possible.

    Rough sailing for a few days certainly, but possibly long-term gain may come from this over-step.

    All this instead of a sensible decision to terminate all mandates and go back to normal living. It’s insanity.

  26. If this emergency powers act requires approval from parliament, then the most important question is the one that hasn’t been asked. What does the NDP think of all this? If the NDP rejects it, and wants to topple the government, the government falls.
    The NDP has had to swallow a few turd sandwiches in the past couple of years because the Liberals had driven their poll numbers into the dirt. They were always afraid of an election. How are the poll numbers now? How does the left-leaning labour constituency feel about all this?
    It’s hard to imagine a better electoral scenario for the NDP than to run as the responsible left-wing option.
