Luckily the Moon is heading the other way, albeit at a very slow pace, the orbital radius used to be smaller than it is now.
If it spiralled in towards the earth it would not be good, even at 10% closer than present, there would be increased tectonic activity, bigger ocean tides, probably some increase in the severity of storms, and a disturbingly big moon in the sky. At least we would get rid of those pesky annular solar eclipses.
If it came in at any sort of a pace, we might all be goners long before it broke up then earth would have a much more impressive set of rings than even Saturn does now.
But it won’t happen, just like anything the Liberal government promises.
The good news is that Globull Warming would be cured. Also all the problems caused by those nasty, RAYCISS!!!, misogynistic, anti-Semitic, fringe, etc., etc., etc., ingrates blocking the borders.
