  1. … the Supreme War Council finally assembled August 9th in response to Prime Minister Susuki’s insistence on surrendering

… Minister of War General Korechika Anami had support in refusing to even discuss surrender and waved away the implications from Hiroshima, “nothing is beyond the power of the Japanese people… even if it was an atomic bomb just one was dropped so, since the Americans have thousands of B-29’s, then they must have only one A-bomb… the destruction of Hiroshima is a political asset to rally the people of the world against America”

… his aide entered the room, “a second atomic bomb has just destroyed large parts of Nagasaki”

    1. Sadly, after decades of being lied to by the federal Liberal Party, I no longer believe anything the Prime Minister of the day says.

Also this morning the top of the CBC news main page is festooned with four stories about how white nationalist groups are taking over western Canada — of which “white fight clubs” are an example (see above). Not that worrying: our justice system is making great headway investigating organized crime, the narcotics trade, homeless camps and urban street gangs. Nothing to worry about on these fronts

  3. This debate is starting again, and it’s rather near and dear to me. And it does point to a societal issue because it cuts across demographics (I’ve taken a lot of ish from all sorts when discussing this one; proof that anyone can fall into this sort of thing.)

I’ve worked with a fair number of dogs; I’ve owned a fair number of dogs — the majority of them, while very good dogs, are from breeds I would never, ever recommend to the average person, much less families with small children or physically/lifestyle incompatible with training and controlling such a dog and giving it the life it needs (like my Malinois, like my Doberman, like my German Shepherd, like my Border Collie — breeds I happen to love and don’t want to see getting caught up in this).
It isn’t ‘racist’ to be afraid of Pit bull type dogs; it isn’t dumb either. It’s probably very smart to be very wary of them because they can do a lot of damage and they are very capable of violent responses. I think you should have the right to own one, but you also have the responsibility to respect what they’re capable of and not infringe upon the rights of others. I can’t help but notice that firearm owners are kept to a higher standard (of a Constitutionally protected right), yet handguns don’t escape from the house on their own and harm people (and bringing the firearm debate into this one is a false equivalency; guns are not dogs). People have shown that they want to claim the right, but are incapable of owning the responsibility — some of the reactions have been…enlightening (from both sides). I’ve seen people threatening to kill people’s dogs out of hand (bad), and I’ve seen all the tired excuses and false equivalencies from the people who own and love these type of dogs (and those are equally bad, if not worse — blaming the toddler for being mauled is disgusting, saying only a few children get mauled/killed each year is disgusting, and I notice no other dog breed enthusiasts who do this).
And bringing race into the debate is just filthy — humans aren’t dogs. But it is strikingly similar to pointing out that certain cultures have problematic traits, which is apparently ok for some to point out (and they aren’t wrong)…but not ok to notice that certain types of dogs can be problematic/are causing problems??? If you can’t understand how your rights can’t override the rights of others and how if you continue to allow it that leads to nanny statism stepping in, then I don’t know what to tell you — maybe grow up and take some responsibility for a change; ps. don’t lie!

    1. Oh, and sorry for the essay; welcome to my TED Talk; thank you for your attention to this matter.

      1. There’s a meme where the conversation goes:
        “Pit bulls should be banned!”
“But my pit bull is a sweetie; it’s not the dog, it’s the owner.”
        “Welcome to the gun debate.”

        1. I got blasted — by a self-described libertarian/conservative — with: less than 5 children have been killed and less than 20 mauled by pit bulls in 2026 (so far, edit: mine); more children die from drowning. More deaths from lightening strikes, an inconsequential number.
I ish you not. They weren’t being sarcastic/ironic with it either. I still can’t wrap my head around it.
Yes, I did do the Greta Thunberg meme. No, I wasn’t joking or taking it back. Yes, I’m still freaking sick, sick that they said this. Yes, they did accuse me of being a “fake conservative, libtard” for saying basically what I just said above. Yes, I did turn around and say “only a small number of people have been killed or assaulted by illegal aliens, an inconsequential number really”.
Yes, I’m still so freaking mad that someone would basically say that, so very, very mad. (insert lots of cursing here, lots of very vile, and unironic cursing).

It’s the dog AND far too many of the owners; I’m beginning to say it’s a culture that needs to go.

          1. Oh, and it’s not even close to being similar to the gun debate (other than stupidity). My firearms don’t go shooty bang bang without a person actively touching them; they don’t escape from the backyard or house on their own. I can store my firearms away from the public/unauthorized people; in fact, I have to. I don’t take my firearms with me out into public and force people to interact with said firearms. I don’t go to the range and say “hey, I’m socializing my firearm to not hit anything other than the target, mind standing down range so I can teach it not to?”. I can go to jail and lose my rights to said firearms if said firearms are recklessly used and harm some innocent person (I can even face time in court if its a criminal and I have a legitimate self-defense; in some areas you can even be held responsible if someone steals your firearm and uses it in a crime and someone gets shot, which is completely unfair). So that argument really irks the heck out of me.

          2. Ish…s&*t?
I’m trying not to curse; I really feel like it…especially after the “only x number of children have been killed”…gah! The entitlement to say something like that and the stupidity to think that was somehow ‘winning the argument’. God!

    2. ah Jane you are SOO right. pitties. so shockingly strong. my part mastiff bred with a tenant’s american bull terrier. she was THE strongest dog for her size ld ever seen. l lift weights and know about muscle density. she was off the scale. and fast? ooyph. and she was one of the most affectionate critters l ever met. l remember the morning she burst out of James’ room jumped up on my bed and hugged me!
l kept one of the puppies. Samson (aptly named) has his mother’s muscle density and his dad’s size. he pulled me over 3 times on the leash before he was 2. l would never suggest anyone with young kids have the likes of him around at that age. at present l am concentrating on getting him completely socialized, and making genuine progress
p.s. thats him with my nom de plume

      1. Nice looking dog; I wish you both well. I used to own a pit bull; lovely dog, no problems, but I always respected what they were capable of and acted accordingly. I wouldn’t have kept her if I thought she was unmanageable. That’s why I’ll probably get a little potato dog or something; I’m at a place where I don’t want nor need a high input dog; I want a couch potato to hang out with me and be sweet and easy going. One needs to be honest with oneself.
The responses from some of the pit bull people have been…astounding. I don’t think they even hear themselves. (see above)
How is that any different from a lefty’s argument that taking away diversity!(TM) is taking away their ‘authentic food choices’? And then they get upset when the inevitable, and completely understandable, backlash happens — why are people such haters? My rights! …Racism! (that’s the dumbest one, I swear).
To which I say; STFU, stfu, stfu, stfu, a million times, stfu! Fix it!

  4. Mike Rowe is very articulate.
Well worth reading this Twitter reply to the Democrats attacking him for being normal.

    A taste:
“I think there’s a lot of room for improvement in our country, and I believe the best way to realize those improvements is for Democrats and Republicans to have continuous, robust and public debate about all the issues. But if one of those parties is affirmatively determined to transform our democratic republic into a communist state, then we’re no longer debating the various ways to make our country better; we’re debating the merits of destroying it. And really, what’s the point of tolerating that?”

    1. Unbelievable! Remigration should be our number one priority (like that will ever happen!). And the ladies can accompany them!

    2. from the link “more dedicated to their beliefs than a Jehovah’s Witness.”
      that got a chuckle.
it is jaw droppingly baffling. l *really really* want to understand
what is ‘going on’ in the grey matter of these walking stockholm syndromes?
how do they detour around the truth of their situations, ignore FACTUAL things right in front of them so deftly? how? how does their thought process ‘navigate’ around things they have seen, read, heard about and experienced that contradict that coming out of their mouth?
justifying and excusing RAPE? the *worst form of personal invasion * gets
      a pass?
gawd help us any of them get into elected office that WILL be the breaking point

      1. See my comments above about another topic; it’s the exact same mentality.
And lo and behold the same demographic is notorious for that one as well (although that one is a bit more cross sectional).

      1. also conveniently forgetting lslam is NOT a ‘race’ it is exclusively a
re-li-gion. religion. a ‘thing’ one CHOOSES to adopt and follow. or not.
