GM Delivered Only 26 EVs In Q4 2021
Our attention is focused on GM’s electric vehicle sales and, as it turns out, the fourth-quarter results are the weakest since the introduction of the Chevrolet Volt in December 2010 when the company handed over 326 cars.
In Q4 2021, GM delivered in the U.S. only 26 all-electric vehicles (down almost 100% year-over-year). The number includes 25 Chevrolet Bolt EV/Bolt EUV and 1 GMC Hummer EV Pickup (the first one delivered in December). We thought that more electric Hummer EVs would be delivered before the end of the year, but it was just this one symbolic unit.

the important thing isn’t how many that they sold, it’s how many they manufactured to count against the CAFE standards
Correctamundo!
OT: There’s a very high diesel power representation in Ottawa. Viva Frei is live. It’s great to see so many people recognize and interact with him.

There’s an electricity in the air that doesn’t bode well for government mandated vehicles.
In case you missed it, Zerohedge had an article about Chinese EV owners upset their cars depreciate at a faster rate than normal cars:
https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/chinese-evs-are-having-trouble-holding-their-value-thanks-evolving-battery-technology-and
As I expect we will see major advancements in technology, I’m wondering who would buy a used EV 1.0, or 1.4? If the market has EV 2.0 or 2.5, I think EV 1.0 could end up being sold for a hundred bucks.
Nobody in their right mind would buy a used EV !! You’ll be looking at $$$ maintenance and likely a $6-10k battery replacement. Yeah … that just might dampen resale values.
OTOH … my BMW engine is just getting broken-in at 250k miles.
HEHEHEHE. My 1994 Toyota land cruiser has 320.000 on it an still going strong.
My Dad’s 2001 GMC Yukon has 450K on it. He lost the tranny at 340K. He was chasing trains up and down Frasier Hill in the Rockies when that happened. I gave him a lovely ’04 Cad SRX with 35K miles to ease him out of the GMC, but he kept using the Yukon for gravel roads leading to train viewing locations. The Cad now has over 200K. His health is fading so doubt the mileage will keep racking up going forward. He wants my 2014 Lincoln MKX which has 23K post-retirement golf course miles. I’m not giving him that one yet. It’s like brand new. My ’03 Z06 has 24K miles primarily because I was living in Iowa. Driving a performance vehicle in the Plains follows the golf season which is short. Temps below 40F and the tires turn into rocks. Torque and frozen rubber is not a good thing.
Kenji, the only EV I would ever buy is a golf cart.
Heh! I’m with you! While I do think the Chevy Volt is a cool vehicle, I have no desire to actually own one. There is insufficient electrical infrastructure nationally or globally to support them, and the government, press and the rest of the left have been grossly dishonest about that fact or the problem of heavy metals associated with the batteries. My next car is a Lincoln Aviator. Give me a combustion engine or give me death.
Someone commented: Doesnt this confirm vaccintes don’t prevent Covid sickness. How about your journey to Europe and the picture in the bar. Coward is all he has!!!
There are a limited number of people that will buy an EV. They are hitting the limits.
Hard to sell a car that is essentially an incendiary device, as in the case of the “Bolt.” Perhaps they should rechristen it the “Grenade.”
Just bring back the old Pontiac Firebird name and change it a bit to Firebolt 😉
TBF … the Chevy Bolt is recalling ALL their cars for battery replacement, and has halted ALL production. I guess Chevy shouldn’t have outsourced their battery production to Korea/China. At least Elon Musk built his own battery factory …
Tesla batteries are a joint effort of Panasonic and Tesla … but they r joint owners of the battery manufacturing facilities I think. Check it out.
Only one solution to this.
An EV mandate.
E-bikes are selling like hotcakes.
2.6 million in Europe in 2018.
I moved south of St. Augustine, FL a couple of years ago. Over 60% of the population is 55 years or older. It’s great, I have to tell you. E-bikes are a real thing down here for both young and old. It’s almost totally flat everywhere but there are grades with a bridge here and there or on some of the inland trails. Plus, some of the east west trails leave one facing headwinds once you turn around. I have two fantastic bikes, a Bianchi Axis Pro and a Litespeed Appalachian (oldies but goodies), but when I leave a little too late and face a headwind home as well as the heat, the idea of an E-bike is tempting.
Nothing so virtuous as somebody who buys an electric bike so that they can pretend to be getting some exercise by pedalling along. It’s like having a motorized treadmill.
You can pay several hundred dollars less on a real bike and get some real exercise.
Yeah, all those old folk using them in Fla what a bunch of assholes!!!
Hey, harsh. I’m still pedaling but as I get older down here, I can see an E-bike in the garage to keep active without needing an ambulance to follow me around.
I have a Model X Tesla. Been to Phoenix and back 3 times in the winter and to Comox 4 times times. Saskatoon / Calgary at least 5 times. I’m Leaving for Comox on Thursday then driving the coast road to SF and then over to Phoenix. Staying until April1.
Cost for energy is Zero as I have free super charging for 8 years and use it when I am travelling on trips. I still have free super charging for another four years. I usually charge at home every 3 or 4 days when I’m not on trips. I have a Kilowatt meter on my home outlet and my cost for energy is about 20 to 25 % of that for gasoline when gas is at $1.39 / litre.
In the 4 years the only maintenance I have done to the car is add Windshield wiper fluid and changed the tires at 80,000 Km.
Super chargers are almost everywhere, heck there is even one in Saskabush.

no such thing as free, you are just welfare surfing, because others are carrying the cost. So are you just an ideological bullshitter, or a paid troll?
Yep I probably paid for the energy up front. But come to think of it my brother in law bought one 6 months after me and he didn’t get free Super charging and paid the same capital cost I did. I had a promo I guess.
Thanks for the hat tip Kate !
