  8. Born and raised in that province, I know how brainwashed the average french only Quebecers are. The internet voices of the Right is shy and limited in Canadian French too. In that sense, I believe Quebec is worse than California or New York.
    I moved out in 95 and never looked back.

  9. The Quebec government isn’t thinking big enough. They should rate everyone according to their potential burden to the health care system from elective habits, including:

    o Being overweight
    o Not exercising enough
    o Smoking
    o Drinking
    o Too much salt, fat, or cholesterol in your diet
    o Being unvaccinated for the flu, MMR, shingles, etc.
    o Dangerous recreations like hang gliding
    o Unprotected sex with multiple partners

    I’m sure we can add to the list. Then tax you according to your score.

    Some of these are already taxed to the hilt (e.g., tobacco and alcohol), but this new tax would be levied against the person rather than the product.

      How bout a ” social credit system ” that watches all of that for you automatically and fines you automatically also debits your bank account in credits on the spot.
      Sorta like in Demolition Man , where Sly is fined for swearing.
      It also can act as a gateway to deny you things for thinking, saying or typing bad things against the Greater Good.

      1. There could be exemptions for poutine, maple syrup, Quebec wine, and anything consumed at a Canadiens game.

        Except for the resulting weight gain. Taxpayers would still be on the hook for that.

    3. Another option would be to let people opt out of the public health insurance system. Reduce your taxes by the amount you pay to be part of the system and if you get sick you have to fend for yourself.

Universality was one of the three planks (along with portability and publicly administered) that the Feds used under the Canadian Health Act to kybosh Province’s attempts at liberalizing their soviet health care systems. If this stands up to legal challenge, it could open the door to liberalizing the system. Quebec, otherwise, leads the nation in fascist law and also produces the worst of PMs.

    Let’s look long-term: a tax is coming because ALL governments are broke. This will be one that appeals to Les Karens but not to other Quebeckers who think that only Alberta should pay taxes. I think it’s supposed to give us that sense that we could have it worse by comparing what is happening elsewhere. Then by the time those same measures are implemented against us here, someplace else has implemented even crazier measures so we again feel like we don’t have it so bad. Round and round it goes and the screws tighten with every turn.

  25. If the vaccines don’t work unless 100% of the population gets jabbed, then how does this objective simply stop at the Quebec border? Wouldn’t you have to get 100% of the world vaxxed? It would seem that Legault’s plan collapses into a huge contradiction. For that matter, so does any plan which requires a 100% vaxx rate no matter by what means.
