December 27, 2021: Reader Tips

Ronin is a superb crime thriller which seems to have slipped below the radar of most people. I’ve seen it at least 10 times and enjoyed every viewing! Here’s a great car chase scene in it through the streets of Paris.

Your most exhilarating tips of the past day are much appreciated!

      Sam: “My two front teeth.”
Vincent: “May your wish be granted.”

  1. I’ve seen “Ronin” quite a few times myself. What Michael Lonsdale (“Munich”) does with small roles is amazing. It’s one of my favourite films. Jean Reno is good too.

On the subject of movies, we watched “No Time to Die” tonight and I found it rather unsettling, considering what we’ve been living with the past two years. It’s release was delayed (more than once) because of Wu Flu and I said to my husband I wouldn’t be surprised if they purposely waited until after the “vaccine” rollout. Anyone who has seen the movie will understand my thinking.

It made me think of “Swordfish,” which probably would never have been released if it hadn’t come out just months before 9/11.

I’m curious to read what others thought of the film.

      1. Wait, you’re saying you recall Travolta’s car but somehow missed Hallie Berry’s, uhhhh, berries??

        1. Yeah, I really don’t remember the film. Or that Hallie Berry was in it. Plus she was in a lot of films, TVR Tuscan on the other side was pretty unique this side of the ocean. Also, ever since Hallie Berry played Storm other roles melt into one…

        2. Ugh, so I just run a search for “Hallie Berry Swordfish”, I see your point, also I need a cold shower.

    1. OntaroKate,
I hadn’t thought Travolta was much of an actor until seeing “Swordfish” and then “Face-off” which were both EXCELLENT fims to watch and enjoy as the special effects were really amazing in these films.
Sad to see many Top Actors reduced to shitty films and shitty roles today.
Exception being RED and RED 2—Retired and Extremely Dangerous…

      1. Agreed, Jojo. He played a pretty good villain in “Swordfish.” I remember enjoying “Face Off” but not too much about the movie; it’s been a while.

    2. I was really interested in thoughts on the new Bond film and how it eerily parallels the evil we’ve been experiencing the last two years.

The Jack London quote at the end of the film was appropriate. I wish my family would take heed: “The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.”

      1. My wife and I watched it. Extremely underwhelmed and the ending was just a waste of time considering it will be undone immediately and everyone knows it.

I feel Craig was a good Bond. True to the books more so than any other Bond except occasionally Connery or Dalton (and I say that as a child of the Roger Moore era Bonds). But, he was completely let down by the movies themselves. Casino Royale was a good movie. Bordering on great in some parts. The rest were near trash with a few decent set pieces in them.

I’ve seen Craig in other things (Logan Lucky, Layer Cake, Knives Out) and he can act. Hopefully he keeps on.

        1. My husband says I think too much when I watch movies; I guess he’s right. Daniel Craig has been my favourite Bond (I liked Dalton, too). I first saw Craig in 1997’s “The Ice House” and was impressed. He was also in “Elizabeth,” “Tomb Raider,” and “Munich.” Hopefully, he’ll be able to shed the Bond persona.

          1. “My husband says I think too much when I watch movies; I guess he’s right. Daniel Craig has been my favourite Bond (I liked Dalton, too). ”

Agreed. Pierce Brosnan was my favorite before Daniel Craig (although Timothy Dalton was the most menacing James Bond of the bunch) just because of his suaveness and delivery of his lines; he could act, and you mostly believed him as Bond. Roger Moore was just “fun”, but not to be taken seriously.

  2. Here’s a couple of movies that you may enjoy. I’ve seen them both several times. At the first link is The Drop: a 2014 American crime film starring Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini. At the second link is The Ghost Writer: a 2010 noir political thriller starring Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan. The quality of the acting in both movies is superb.

Happy New Year everyone. I hope I’m around next year to participate. Kate runs a excellent long-running blog. I admire her talent and stamina.

    1. Seconded for The Ghost Writer. It was well acted and atmospheric. Nice little piss take on Blair.

Unfortunately it was made by a paedo. Would have been even better if they had of castrated the director at the end of it as a “bonus feature”*

  3. Melissa Cuimmei has an easy to listen to accent, and a conversation about covid, which is really about the great re-set, and you being a gov’t pawn, part of the social credit program from China, and not so much about a bogus world wide pandemic wiping out less than 1% of human life.

*I don’t agree with her assessment of all cryptos, in that there are some which are well removed from “fiat currencies” … but the gov’t cryptos will certainly be 100% fiat cryptos, worth exactly what the paper currencies will soon be worth.

*If 20 people have already posted this elsewhere at SDA, I apologize.

  4. Interesting information from Ontario’s COVID-19 site. https://covid-19.ontario.ca/data Scroll down to COVID-19 cases by vaccination status and look at the last 7 days. Two important crossovers

On December 18 more cases were coming from the fully vaccinated than the partially vaccinated
On December 24 more cases were coming from the fully vaccinated than the unvaccinated

  5. So, most of you here already know soccer players and pilots are dropping like flies for some unexplained reason.

My sister in law works 3 hours a week at a health club. One fitness instructor dropped dead suddenly with a massive heart attack.

And a lot of people are going to be ‘getting in shape’ for the New Year. Good luck with that. Every death and every injury wakes a few more people up. Look for fitness instructors and people getting in shape suddenly dropping dead to be the next trend. And even more stillbirths around October….

Traffic at the stores in one small city was only like a busy Saturday for Boxing Day, which was disappointing.

  6. As per Ronan, I can no longer watch it, or any other De Niro film, for that matter.

I’ll bet that I am not the only one here who has seen Casino, A Bronx Tale and Goodfellas about a dozen times each. Alas, I can no longer enjoy those, either. When I try to watch them now, I no longer see the great characters he brought to life, I only see the arrogant, angry, hate-filled asshole behind them.

      1. I’m not all that impressed with Tom Hanks any more, not after his anti-Trump comments. I’m still keeping my DVDs of Apollo 13 and From the Earth to the Moon, though.

I used to like the series Sherlock and then I found out that Benedict Cumberbatch supported Extinction Rebellion. I donated all the DVDs to Goodwill after that.

    1. DeNiro is just another HellMouth asshole who thinks his political opinions are worth more than a pile of dogshit. May he rot.

Definitely agree. Same with Baldwin, Cher and quite a few others.

    3. CO

Ya know…I didn’t actually realize it…but I’ve been subconsciously doing the same thing. His remarks vis a vis President Donald Trump, like Baldwin and so many others, just pissed me off..and still do.

As for Hollyweird as a whole, an asteroid would be nice….just as long as few NORMIES get out, Mark Whalberg, Keanau Reeves along with a few others…..for the rest…?? tough shitski.

      1. Asteroid?

That would make Whoreliweird into a literal HOLE as opposed to is current metaphorical state.

Speaking of “asteroids” and crap, manipulative moves; I had the misfortune to watch “Don’t Look Up” recently. It certainly isn’t “2001, A Space Odyssey”., or even “Forbidden Planet”.

  7. Hello from Calgary. It is minus 33C in the Stampede City this morning. Bitter. The capacity for wind power in Alberta is 2269 MW. Alberta uses approximately a steady 9000 MW to survive. The wind power production at 8:00AM is 12 MW. solar of course is zero. I have included a link to the Alberta power capacity outputs (updates every 15 minutes I believe) for you to bookmark and occasionally look at. If something like this doesn’t open the greenies eyes to how dangerous it would be to get rid of fossil fuel before something “Reliable” is developed as a replacement to produce power, then they actually want us all dead.

    1. -40 out here in the buck brush this morning.

Had a cow moose and her calf in the yard. Watched them out the window for 10 minutes. They were 30′ from the trap shack. They chewed on some willows and then walked off into the bush.

The dogs of course are all in the shack enjoying the wood stove….and listening to WBGO the NY jazz station.

      1. What a beautiful mental picture AB …

It’s been nonstop raining at my “exceptionally drought ravaged” home. 3” of standing water in the yard from last nights rains. There’s TEN FEET of snow in the Tahoe basin … that’s a RECORD amount of snow for Tahoe in December. But the oh-so-sciency ‘Drought Monitor’ has the entire region colored RED on their Official FEAR Map. No amount of rain and snow will EVER cure California’s “neverending drought” … because government “scientists” have declared it so.

Nice to hear your getting moisture. We are drought stricken here as well.

The drought starts in the south and moves north, as does moisture. No sign of the drought breaking yet but here’s hoping.

The cold snap doesn’t look like it will last much longer, for now so we’ll just bear with it.

It’s the best of times and the worst of times.

          1. -31°C in Calgary now.
Shovel da zzsnow, 1″ this am before my cofefee, lazed around w blankie reading “The Dressmakers of Auschwitz” by Lucy Adlington– gas fireplace throwing heat.

    1. There are times when I swear that summer holiday traffic on the Yellowhead is almost as bad.

      1. What? I saw ONE white Swedish dude … token … who looks like a weed seller.
The rest of the list? Oh well … “celebrate diversity”

    1. I kind of liked the ones with the Austin Minis with Michael Caine.
      ” The Italian Job “.
Even had Benny Hill in it plus the great Noel Coward.

Mostly cause I had about 6 of the darn things, my misspent youth, including an Innocenti, based on the Mini but with Italian gauges and some fancy internal engine work.
      Man that thing was fast.

      1. my misspent youth,
Lifting an A-series, 4 cylinder engine, on to a workbench with two hands and mild grunt should never be described as ‘mis-spent’ time.

  8. Remember all the Coffins for Covid Deaths in Italy all staged. All Bullshit All faked to spread Panic and Fear.
Cluing in yet. They are all fucking CRIMINALS. The PM SHITMEISTER and his little mewling shitstained Premiers. All Criminal Class.
What they have all done is CRIMINAL and they need Prosecuted.

Yet the Elite Trash Politicians demand Mandatory Vaccination.
It Is Time They are prosecuted and put on trial for murder.
