Worth noting that Rochester NY former mayor Lovely Ann Warren (her actual name) resigned earlier this month. James Smith as listed is the interim mayor and will be replaced on January 1, 2022, by Malik Evans, until now a councillor at large. (both Warren and Malik are Democrats also)
Apparently Warren withdrew from the 2021 mayoral election facing campaign finance violations from 2017, and Malik Evans was the winner by default as there were no other candidates. James Smith is the acting mayor as Warren could have served until the handover date of Jan 1 but resigned as part of some plea bargain she made. Her estranged (? according to her) husband appears to be some big-time Rochester felon. Malik Evans sounds like the next Barack Obama from his bio, he came into the council after a long stint with the Board of Education. He seems to have a clean sheet compared to Warren. Time will tell whether any of his policies as announced in the mayoral non-election will have any impact on the local crime wave which has the attention of the governor of NY state also, apparently. So there is no end of Democrat politicians talking about crime in Rochester, and even some participating.

Rochester has been ultra-liberal/Democrat for decades. (I grew up there, so I know). It’s the only city in the US which had Catholic “female” clergy openly performing religious services, until it became so notorious that the Vatican finally had to take action. Even then, it wasn’t abolished – the “feminists” took over the church where my Mom was baptized/confirmed back in the 1930’s (Salem United Church of Christ).
If Rochester isn’t a strong bulwark of ultra-liberal Democrats, then the Sun must rise in the West….
