  14. UGH!!!! I hate public transit with a passion and why I avoid it at all costs. Once took a bus from Pearson Int’l to Hamilton with multiple pickup stops along the way. I distinctly remember thinking “What fresh hell is this?”
    If there’s a demographic out there constantly complaining of unfair stereotypes, let’s just say it isn’t totally unearned.
    Say what you will about Vancouver but transit there is a pleasure. Yes, you’ll get the odd Chucklehead but all in all not too shabby.

  17. That right there seems to be reason to dispense with the traditional norms of social behaviour, specifically the unwritten rule about not striking a female because they lack the means of defending themselves and the presumption that they are not aggressive.
    So the proper action would for each and every transit rider in that coach to put away their phones, block the exits, and dispense with a bit of Justice.

    Later they could all say
    “ no officer, I didn’t see anything that was unusual nor did I witness an assault on those three”
    In a normal world those three would get a severe ass kicking and there is nothing unusual about that.

  21. It’s not public transit that is the problem, it’s the people riding in it.
    Here in Prague we have a great public transport system, without any issues of this kind whatsoever.
    (And obviously it’s safe to walk around in the city too, also after dark, also for women, just like it should be in any civilized society.)

    1. All through the 1970s and 1980s, the TTC was as safe as your living room. In the 1990s it started getting weird.

      Fast forward to now, you can see drug addicts crapping on the subway platform any time. You keep one hand on your wallet and the other on the knife you’d better have brought with you.

      What changed? The government.
