The Red-Pilling of Loudoun County

Matt Taibbi;

One of the biggest stories in electoral politics in the Trump years has been the near-absolute conquest by the Democratic Party of places like Loudoun County, i.e. well-heeled districts with high percentages of college-educated voters. With Trump on the ballot, voting red became all but impossible for residents in these places, not just intellectually and politically, but socially. In certain suburbs, voting Republican while Trump still breathes air is an act that will put you “a notch below child molester” in the community, to use the Woody Allen phrase.

The significance of Youngkin’s win is that it signals Republican competitiveness in those districts again, something that would have been unthinkable even a year ago. These white-collar, highly educated voters, the kind of people who get their shots, don’t watch wrestling, and send their kids to Harvard and Princeton, are the Democratic Party’s base. It took something pretty weird and intense to drive them to defection, and don’t trust anyone who tries to explain it in a tweet. This one really is a long story, and a wild one at that.

More from Jim Treacher: But as it turns out, it was a mistake to call parents “terrorists” for caring about what their kids are being taught in schools.

  1. It doesn’t matter what ideology you hail from.
Nor what demographic or political ideology.
If a politician tells them they have no business deciding what’s best for their kids they lose supporters.
It’s like telling voters that if you give parents money for childcare it will get spent on beer and popcorn.

  2. Before everyone gets too far, understand the margin of victory isn’t exactly a landslide. This county, and much of America, remains with its head up its ass, supporting radical socialism no matter what.
Victory is good, but the enemy has suffered a setback, not a terminal loss.
The war is not, and will never be over.

      1. The VA House of Delegates flipped; the US House of Representatives is up next November. Even if the Democrats keep the US House Pelosi will probably get a challenger from her own party for the Speakership. If the GOP regains control then Kevin McCarthy would be considered the front-runner.

  3. Two words: Real estate.

Even 15 years ago Loudoun was largely rural, horse country. But you had people from DC and the close-in suburbs who began to move there because they could get more bang for their housing buck even if it meant the commute just got a lot longer. And as often happens when Democrats move, they brought their voting tendencies with them as they moved into their McMansions.

But the Ds certainly misread a portion of the electorate; Youngkin was pounding the education issue and public safety and the Dems were talking abortion and the environment and Trump (exit polling showed abortion was the #1 issue for only 9% of voters). Then McAuliffe handed the GOP an absolute gift in that not-so-smart statement and there were ads about it running the next day and got serious airplay for a month.

Were the results too close for comfort ? Yes. But the Dems should be concerned at how many of their voters stayed home.

  4. I’m paraphrasing a post I read on Gab…. “All signs indicate that the Democrats will lose big in the upcoming elections. We should be concerned about why they aren’t concerned.”

    1. Their backers still have control of the financial system. Should they care who makes the laws?

  5. “In certain suburbs, voting Republican while Trump still breathes air is an act that will put you “a notch below child molester” in the community, ”

Maybe. Maybe not. But I am reasonably sure that the irony of a ‘non Trumpian’ school board literally allowed some of their children to be molested was not lost on the voters.

Spoiler for the Woke :- Some people actually love their children and will do literally anything to protect them. If you get between them and their children they will crush you, possibly literally.

  6. In a related story … the polls all SUDDENLY … with this VA election … appeared to get it right. 😮 my shocked face. Out of nowhere … the polls very accurately predicted the winner. At the very least, they predicted McAuliffe was struggling and in danger of losing.

The polls probably showed McAuliffe was LOSING … but they couldn’t QUITE go that far.

  7. None of this went on in New Jersey, and still it shifted 14 points away from the Democrats. This stuff is important, but there is more going on.

They beat Trump with suburban moms, then told suburban moms that they were going to jab their kids with an experimental vaccine that the kids don’t need.

  8. Too bad the Stinkin’ Project won’t be around in two years help Republicans get out the vote again. Nobody is returning their calls tonight, you can bet.

  9. The left will simply become more devious, will cheat more, will do w orse things

these little victories for non-leftists have only emboldened the left to be more evil

anti white racism will simply be ten times worse

merrick garland and the FBI will simply find ways to keep parents out of schools

    etc etc

the left is pure evil and they have only just started

they will only stop when there is nothing left to destroy
