University students in Waterloo live in a bubble, there are so many businesses surrounding the two campuses that cater to students that they think their idle brain farts matter beyond that radius. They don’t, and especially once you get into Kitchener “keeping the lights on” matters a lot more to businesses than student dollars that never come that far south anyway.

When you let the gays take part in society openly, you open your society to all the other perversions and abnormalities that are out there. Without the concept of acceptable and unacceptable behaviours in a society, it degrades to the lowest common denominator under the guise of the individual’s right to act any way they want within the limits of the written law. Multiculturalism is the first plank of destroying a society’s definition of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour, the second plank is gay rights (over those of everybody else’s).

Re: Picton. Nothing would surprise me as the County recently removed a statue of Sir John A. from downtown. It marked his first legal case as a new lawyer. I also despair for the nearby village of Wellington (yes, that Wellington).

Racism in the army. I didn’t see it 40 years ago. The army challenges people to work through adversity. One way of doing this is to question your parentage, your intelligence, or your appearance and to make the job extremely physically demanding. The whole point was to make your experience so unpleasant that you quit on the assumption that soldiers who quit when things get difficult are 100% worthless. Some sergeants could be total irredeemable assholes but almost everyone knew what the game was and knew the date when the course ended. I suspect some quitters may have very well chalked whatever abuse they took to their race but they are likely wrong. When I was there everyone was abused to some degree but it was all manageable. I suspect nowadays sergeants get up early to butter the toast of minority recruits.
