you think that’s a little wacky?

“Portland is now offering ‘bereavement leave’ for
birthing people who have an abortion.”

    let them eat placenta!

  2. that’s fine, until you know that trucking companies will suddenly decide they don’t want to service a port that fines them for a problem they can’t solve…

a more fitting analogy might be the man who murdered his parents
pleading for leniency because he’s now an orphan.

  4. This actually makes sense. A big part of the problem was that ships returning to the far east were not bothering to take back empty containers because the delay would cost them lost revenue.

This will encourage them to take back empty containers, and free up space in the ports. Not all of the problems will be cured but this will help, in my opinion.

    1. I must conclude that “trade deficit” means exactly nothing to you.
I can also assume you think these far eastern port authorities like giving away thousands of containers, and they don’t need empty ones to put new cargo in.
I can also assume that you will also approve of the cost of these fines being passed onto the consumers.
I can also assume that your siblings and/or parents often post here under the handles antiq, unme and allen s.
Whoever pays you to post such tripe isn’t getting his money’s worth.

    2. Makes me wonder if the shipping container manufacturer (back in the far east) isn’t paying these shippers to not return with shipping containers. Like the tire salesman dropping nails on the road on his way to work.

    3. Explain how fining the trucking companies and railroads is going to force the ships to take empty containers?

note that the shipping companies with ships have made the decision, that returning empty, or mostly empty is more cost efficient than sitting and waiting for empty containers to be loaded at long beach, given that they have to pay for their time tied up along the dock.

  5. First the Wuhan flu PPE trillions and now the trillion $ stimulus( to China ) .

Oh, you thought the money, here…….hahah. 10% for the big guys.

  6. (((About 250,000 containers of goods are currently stacked up on the docks due to delayed pickups from chassis shortages and a lack of space in railyards and warehouses. This is causing dozens of ships to back up at anchor outside the ports.)))

They caused it with their climate change nonsense….and now the Maritime entities will pay for it. Nothing sticks to those responsible. Californians let them do it over and over again.

    1. I suspect much of the contents in those shipping containers is destined for states other than California so I’m not sure Cali-dwellers are the ones who will feel the brunt of this fiasco.

  7. California is lucky I’m not the Governor of Utah. I’d put a dam on the Colorado River and take over half of their drinking water every time they did something boneheaded like this.

  8. Watching Monday Night Football two days ago from Seattle. In the overhead shots you can see a container marine terminal in the background.
No ships docked, no cranes moving, no trucks present, lots of empty space. Absolutely nothing going on…..
    Crisis? what crisis?
