South Pole posts most severe cold season on record
The average temperature at the Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station between April and September, a frigid minus-78 degrees (minus-61 Celsius), was the coldest on record, dating back to 1957. This was 4.5 degrees lower than the most recent 30-year average at this remote station, which is operated by United States Antarctic Program and administered by the National Science Foundation.

Undoubtedly more evidence of Global Warming.
Colder is warmer! We are, as usual, doomed.
Maunder Minimum .
That big hot yellow ball in the sky is dimming.
Little or no sun spot activity = less energy output = us freezing our asses off.
And orbit moving from more circular to more elliptical. Because the Divine Molecule (CO2) wills it to be so.
I’ll keep it simple, the earth is a ball pit at your local kiddie’s playground. There are red balls and blue balls in the same pit. No two balls can occupy the same space at any one time. There may be more red balls in this corner, or more blue balls in that corner, but there are the same number of balls at all times. Simple because you find yourself surrounded by red balls does not mean the blue ones have been removed from the pit.
N.A. had a dry hot summer, flooding in Europe and coldest summer ever in Japan, etc, Numbers all demonstrate the planet is cooling, dramatically, and it’s back towards another ice age. But don’t believe me, get out the slide rules, and historical data, and do your own research. Become an expert yourself.
Not all of NA had a hot, dry summer. In Southeast Texas, we had an extremely cold winter (made the news it did..) followed by a fantastically wet spring and early summer. We normally bake June-September, but this year it was unseasonably wetter and cooler. (Cooler being relative..) Yes, still in the 90’s, but that beats the 105°F we’ve been known to have for weeks on end.
Don’t mind the milder temperatures, I just don’t want another week of Canadian-style winter dropped on Texas. You guys can keep your winters. No need to share. 😉
We had a really DRY Summer in Minnesota.
Last time that happened, we had strings of 100 Degree F. weather. You get hotter days when the ground is dry.
Not a single 100F day, not even close. I think the warmest they recorded was 97 or 98F.
Just an anecdote, because weather is not climate.
It’s global warming. Everybody knows that warm air rises and cool air sinks, so the warmer air over most of the planet causes what little cooler air there is to fall to the bottom of the planet. Soon, as the average global temperature rises to 200 degrees, there will be one little spot above the South Pole that will be 1,000 degrees below zero. It’s science!
In the words of Greta Thunberg who so eloquently put it: “Blah, blah, blah”
How Dare You! (paraphrase her so.)
Come to think of it, we haven’t gotten the perpetual “hottest summer on record” article yet. Someone must be slacking.
The IPCC is drafting their next 5 Year Plan of weather scare-mongering.
Russian Base of Vostok [Antarctica] logged a minimum temperature of -79.4C (-110.9F) today [October 1st], just 0.6C above the world’s lowest temperature ever recorded in the month of October.
andycanuckCancel. This commentary on the WaPo article also mentions the Vostok record and lots of other memorable quotes:
“The WaPo cited an interview with University of Wisconsin researcher Matthew Lazzara, who was “in awe” over the record cold. “In an interview, he said it was around minus-100 degrees on numerous occasions.””
“Washington Post’s suggestion that Antarctica “continues to warm rapidly” is also contradicted by recent studies showing the entire South Pole continent has in fact cooled since data recording began in the 1950s.”

One of the more reliable long-term temperature records is the Central England Temperature series (CET) and that of course has been warming in recent decades but 2021 ranks tied 43rd warmest out of 353 years (1659-2021). The two warmest summers in England were 1976 and 1826. Twenty-four of the forty-two summers warmer than 2021 were before 1900. I think that places things in a more realistic perspective than the annual “hottest summer ever” stuff. (note in meteorology summer is June, July and August, not the astronomical season from 21st June to 21st September).
I have been working on creating similar data bases for Toronto and NYC, but unlike the CET those locations have been exposed to a large urban heat island increase (they routinely take away just 0.2 C from the CET as some of their index stations are somewhat suburban in location, others are quite rural). So for the Toronto series uncorrected, the summer of 2021 ranks t-8 with 2011. June and August were top ten months, July was quite close to the long-term average. After correction for urban heat island growth, I ranked 2021 as t-10th warmest (out of 182 years since the station began in 1840). For NYC I have not created seasonal averages yet but the monthly ranks were all a bit lower than Toronto’s ranks for this summer so would imagine the summer came in around 15th to 20th warmest before corrections, and 20th to 30th after corrections. (the corrections for urban heat island establish a better base line for actual climate change comparisons)
My own opinion about global warming is that most of it has occurred in the northern subarctic climate regions due to a shift northward in storm tracks and that overall the temperate zones are warming only slightly, the tropical zones not at all, and the southern hemisphere as illustrated by the topic of this thread, subject to some recent cooling especially over the Antarctic continent. It could be argued that Antarctica has to cool to maintain the equilibrium of a warming planet (the heat has to escape out into space somewhere if large parts of the globe begin to warm slightly). How long this might continue is unclear. Our carbon dioxide production is slowing and a large component of the changes observed could be tied to multiple strong El Nino events and a lag induced by ocean warming after a warm 20th century where active solar cycles were common. My hunch is that the data will show more of a flat-line tendency in areas that have warmed since 1980, in the next thirty years. If most of the northern warming is due to storm track changes, then that factor has already maxed out and cannot contribute further up there. What could reverse the trend would be increased arctic snowfall which is what a lot of the models are showing, a sort of feedback loop that keeps things closer to equilibrium than Greta and her friends would have us believe.

You didn’t mention the longest, steepest, temperature rise on record. 1690-1730. Nothing that abrupt and long-lasting has been observed seen since that epic CO2 engorgement. (listens to whispering voices) Er, I mean, that random change in weather that isn’t remotely related to climate science.
Is this anomaly caused by a non-human cooling event ?

So this is how humanity goes out, freezing to death because the people running the world listened to a high school drop out with anxiety and evidence of fetal alcohol syndrome. I wonder how the people in NE China are going to handle having no power while they hit -20…
“because the people running the world listened to a high school drop out”
The people running the world are creating them.
We should all be fried by now…..where is Al Gore hiding out? Did he get fried and fall off the face of the earth?
Of course he never answered any questions, it was how dare anyone would question him. There’s a reason someone refuses to answer questions, we know why.
But Liz, you’re supposed to fall to your knees in gratitude the he (He?) saved us. After all, if not for Al Gore…
ManBearPig would have killed us all by now. And I’m being super cereal. (/SouthPark)
The warming continues; and I laughed and I laughed and I laughed.
How are the penguins managing with the intense cold?
They told me it was nothing to get in a flap about
Someday the solar trend will flipper. And there’s nothing fishy about the ice extent records!
According to http://temperature.global/ the last 6 years of their “unadjusted” 12000 station surface temperature readings all over the world averaged annually and compared to the 30 year average is:
2015 average: 0.98 °F (0.54 °C) below normal
2016 average: 0.48 °F (0.27 °C) below normal
2017 average: 0.47 °F (0.26 °C) below normal
2018 average: 1.33 °F (0.74 °C) below normal
2019 average: 0.65 °F (0.36 °C) below normal
2020 average: 0.00 °F (0.00 °C) below normal
Yera to date 2021 Deviation: -0.14°F/-0.08°C
Since it is automated and unadjusted, it’s likely more trustworthy than what comes out of the corrupted media.
JC, people don’t want the truth, they WANT to be lied too. I am not sure why.
I can help with that! It’s because:
1) they don’t know anything about anything except tonight’s TV listings
2) their “education” didn’t help them develop critical thinking skills; only rote memorization and recitation
3) because of these two things, THINKING IS HARD, DUDE!
4) people are lazy and don’t WANT to do hard things; they want to get home from their shit job and watch TV, preferably while killing off some brain cells
4) nobody wants to appear to be a butt-ignorant dolt
5) solution: rote memorization and recitation of shit they hear from the media and politicians, which is the only side they get to hear without doing the hard work of research and critical thinking – so to them, that’s the “truth”
6) you’re welcome! 🙂
+++OSF
I forgot to mention that they get another benefit: they see all the other eejits around them agreeing! It doesn’t matter that it’s heinous, destructive bullshit: they all agree on it, so they feel good about themselves.
“Hey, we’re all right! All those others, the people who disagree, are obviously wrong, so we get yet another benefit: the joy of contempt and condescension, maybe some death threats, beatings, mob violence. Who doesn’t like that, right? When your life is shit, you hate your job, spouse, children, pretty much everything – take it out on a stranger who holds the wrong ideas!”
Oh, Stalin would have LOVED it. All the work of his minions finally coming to fruition in the capitalist democracies he so despised.
Hell, there’s yet another benefit: imaginary moral superiority. After all, they’re “saving the planet“! Must be the same feeling they get when they put up a lawn sign saying, “even if you forced genital mutilation on your daughter, you’re welcome as my neighbor.“
The great thing about imagining you’re morally superior is it enables people to carry out all sorts of atrocities, like Antifa does. Chekists, Einsatzgruppen, and Red Guards provide historical examples.
Hopefully I’ve covered the main reasons why people love to be lied to. Kind of depressing, isn’t it?
Was their not a problem a few years back , the recording stations in Antarctica had become buried in the accumulating snow and were therefore showing that it was warmer than it actually was, has this now been remedied?
