When you want to blame everything on a particular group you put your thumb on the scale.
Had one shot of either the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccines? You’re not vaccinated. Had two? Still not vaccinated, not for two weeks.
In countries where health authorities are more honest, statistics on hospitalizations and deaths have three categories – “fully” vaccinated, “partially” vaccinated, and “unvaccinated.” Many cases fall in the middle category. Who really knows for sure is the question?
When I hear the “one shot of Brand X vaccine is not enough” line, I’m reminded of some old advertising campaigns, such as for laundry detergents and the famous Coke vs. Pepsi taste tests.

Yes, they’re playing with number to push a political message. This further erodes their credibility with anyone who understands how the data should be shown. The amount of half truths and outright lies means that no one should trust the pharmaceutical companies and public health authorities. At best they’re engaging in The Noble Lie…at worst, well, it looks very sinister and possibly even an evil intent.
The only logical way to present the data is by showing both raw numbers and change over time (the trend). Ideally you’d also want to break out the data further into age ranges. To be truly honest they should show the age, the BMI and number of comorbidities of those hospitalized and those who died. And, of course, vaccination status – full, partial or unvaccinated.
That deaths and hospitalizations are random is the original lie and all other lies have stemmed from there. OTOH, hospitalizations and deaths from the vaccine do seem random. There are patterns with myocarditis in young males and brain blood clots in women but most of the other vaccine adverse reactions can afflict you regardless of age, weight or health. IMO, the vaccines is riskier than covid if you’re young, healthy and fit.

I agree on your point but also note the obvious conclusion (at least for now and we shall see for sure next flu season) that the delta variant, though possibly more transmissible, is less infectious and deadly than previous “waves” so hospitalizations and deaths are diverging not tracking cases.
It’s hardly a revelation new cases are delta, it’s like saying 96% of new influenza cases are of the latest strain.
