Has anyone done a study on how much the health insurance companies have saved from the accelerated deaths of many elderly persons, who otherwise would be using health insurance funds on medical care for potentially many more years? And how much the government has saved on future Social Security payouts? (The amount spent on Covid care for some patients was undoubtedly a lot, but that was a small minority of Covid deaths.)
I’m not a conspiracy theory believer, but it wouldn’t be hard to create a narrative that Covid is a plot to save Social Security, boost health insurance profits, and accelerate transfer of wealth from one generation to another.

That’s how they’ve always been done. When infant mortality was much higher, life expectancies were much lower, but if you lived to 15, you were pretty much just as likely to hit 80 as you are today.
Total US deaths “from” Covid (yeah ok) is just shy of 600,000.
Share of deaths by people 75 and over: 340,000 and almost 180,000 of those were people 85 and older. The US life expectancy is 80. Max. You’d have to subtract a minimum 5 years per 85+ year old. That looks like 900,000 years the other way. That’s almost a fifth of the total right there. So now we’re down to 4 days…or I might need correcting?

People living longer than the average of 80 offset those who die younger than 80.

The idea that most people live to the average life expectancy is based on a misunderstanding of statistics, in this case, the difference between mean, median and mode. When the statistics are given, at the very least the standard deviation should be part of it.
People who don’t understand mean, median and mode sure as hell aren’t going to understand standard deviation.
Life expectancy was also lowered due to having to work much harder than we do now. Yes, your heart is tough enough to last 150 years. But it was made that way because we used to put a lot of wear and tear on our bodies.
A century and a half ago most people were still blue collar and mechanization was just getting started. What we take for granted today was done with muscle power then. By the time a guy was 50 he was worn out.

Had it been called “Average Age at Death” the numbers are probably accurate…. add up the ages of all deaths and divide by number of deaths…. C19 did hit older people harder and took a lot of those who would have made 85-90+ out before getting there.
