    1. “As David Burge put it, “I’m no Henry Luce, but I think I could operate a magazine full of B+ Oberlin term papers for less than $50 million per year.” ”

      Ouch.
The Atlantic could use some writing like that.

      1. They’d probably do better publishing collections of dirty limericks.

  1. To be fair, David Frum is a one-note, anti-Trump “Republican”, Stockholm Syndrome patient. His usefulness, or lack thereof, was amply demonstrated to anyone by simply listening to George W. Bush butcher David’s sophomoric word-smithing. Frum is a mostly harmless diversion in any given edition of “The Atlantic.” Frum is the least of that publication’s problems.

  2. There are a ton of scribblers who are trying to find work now that Trump is gone. Talentless one trick ponies. They have nothing to say. Quite a few are Canadians.

  3. I’m old enough to remember when Frum was actually pretty good. When the Nat Post was launched, his column was must read. Then he went a little nuts in 2008, pretty much cheering for Obama, and was shunned by the right. I didn’t hear anything about him for a while until Trump came on the scene. I was shocked at his bad writing and TDS. (He saw TDS as a lucrative way to revive his career.) It didn’t work. The left still and always will hate him, and he lost the right a long time ago. Traitor.

  4. If only they can hang on until the revolution and AOC is appointed El Presidente of the USSA, then they will be rewarded. It’s not as if socialist countries have a lengthy track record of first purging the true believers and the useful idiots from the movement because they know too much.

  5. A magazine from intellectuals for intellectuals so together they could look down/preach to the great unwashed.
Its been decades but I remember that even their fiction was unreadable.
Like so many, they’ll cease to exist when they run out of other people’s money.

    1. they’ll cease to exist when they run out of other people’s money.

That might take a while. The owner is currently Laurene Jobs, who has about $20 billion which she inherited from her husband Steve. Losing $30 million in two years may seem substantial, but if she feels it’s worth it to promote her ultraliberal views, she has the money to keep it going as long as she wants. That is, until the US either collapses from within or is subjugated by the Chinese, either of which may not be that far off.

  6. Actually, Frum went over the cliff at least as far back as 1992.

David Warren’s Idler ran the stupidest political article I have ever read, by Frum, of course, the basic theme of which was (quoting from memory): “that the left is upset at Mulroney is not surprising. The big surprise is that the right is upset with Mulroney.”

I’m sure regular SDA readers don’t have to be told that Mulroney was basically a Liberal who projected Quebec issues onto the whole country, and a major part of Canada’s Employment Equity racket happened on his watch, etc.

For Frum not to spot this (at a time when the Reform Party was taking off), well ….

His presence on any masthead automatically lowers the tone thereof.

I once had occasion to call Senator Frum’s office to express my appreciation of one of her initiatives. I asked the staffer “how come the Senator’s so good and her brother’s such a twit?”

    The staffer laughed ….

    1. David sure has gotten a lot of mileage using his mother’s famous surname.
Similar to the leader of a certain mediocre, fading, middle-power G20 nation.

  7. I don’t understand why so many major news outlets are struggling so hard to find cash in an economic reality where hapless Hunter Biden can’t help but keep stumbling into huge piles of the stuff.

    1. CO, Those news outlets need a “Biden” sugar daddy, now that Trump has been illegally turfed, they have no evil marauder to use as a foil. They are rudderless and have no direction…..Er, sorry, that always was the case, so without Evil agent Orange man to create revenue, they definitely need a rich lefty daddy, lots of those around it would seem.

  8. The problem with Frum, like most of Canada’s so-called “Conservative” writers, is that he’s a *&^%$#g snob. He has disdain for those who have dirty fingernails and no degrees after their name.

He shares the Great Contempt of working folk – an all-to-common a feature in writers and politicians of all stripes.
