  1. I had turtles while I was younger and I’ve got rabbits in my neighbourhood in Edmonton. Either one of those would have been a winner with me.

  2. Yeah, I’ve heard this one before and have given it a lot of thought not to mention the always interesting arrow/time paradox. Not going to beat myself up over it. Lots of people with big brains claim you’re applying mathematics to a non mathematical situation. Something to be said for that as well.
From a pragmatic standpoint – I’ll always contend rabbits and hares are dumber than a bag of hammers and will stop to look at the scenery even when in immediate danger just because they want to and which is why in my neighbourhood they go through a constant boom and bust cycle.
Stupid effers don’t know enough to keep running when it really matters.

There was someone on here some months ago lecturing me on “tensor calculus”, maybe he can weigh in.

    1. I don’t think the rabbits in my neighbourhood are like that. They watch out if someone comes into close proximity and skedaddle when they feel unsafe. And they can run!

      1. Was weeding in the garden the other night and was approached by a rabbit not more than three feet away just sitting there observing me. I couldn’t help surmise that that is precisely why they’re such easy pickings for predators.
And yes they’re swift, no argument from me on that point.

      2. The ones in my neighbourhood are often curious, and can come to within 3 metres. Any closer than that and it doesn’t take much for them to start running.

But, considering how fast they can move, I dare say that they’re not such easy pickings.

          1. I leave carrot peels for them, particularly in winter, putting them at the inside corner of a chain link fence. That way, they’re protected from two directions and, in the winter, I often see that they’ve left their calling cards. That indicates that they’re safe enough to go potty.

In my part of the city, I haven’t seen too many falcons or hawks. They tend to go after gophers or mice.

  3. I don’t know much about the tortoise and the hare … but I do know the moral of the story is Hare today, Goon tomorrow

In 5th Grade I was the lead in a short school play … and got to transform from Hare to Goon in front of a live crowd. My teacher selected me for the part because of my naturally smirking smile. Yes, I’m still a smirker…

  4. Somehow the Tortoise and the Hare seems race-est to me. Can I pretend to be offended?
