  1. It won’t take long before there are more holidays in this country than work days. No wonder that not a lot seems to get accomplished here.

Since I wasn’t born in this country, does that mean I don’t have to be “truthed and reconciled”?

    1. B A, I don’t think this country as constituted has much longer. The people who now inhabit it are less than intelligent, less than honorable, and so lazy that eventually printing money to keep them happy will completely destroy what little work ethic still keeps this pyramid scheme going.

  2. The line I love is; “It will cost approximately 166 million in lost productivity” Productivity? Really? Productivity? The worthless leaches of the civil service have no concept of the word.

    1. I don’t care about the $166 million in lost productivity in the federal civil service… my concern is the $233 million in damage caused to the federal regulated industries, such as Railroads, which of course will eventually be paid for by the public in the form of higher costs of everything shipped by rail… although it’s identified as lost productivity, the railways never stop running, so it’s just in the form of additional costs to pay people not to work

    2. Civil servants produce nothing but gas, and it can’t be used in your car. Productivity is a word that has become meaningless in Canada and the US for that matter.

    1. Precisely.
As one example a certain part time lawyer and failed punk rocker turned full time political call girl seems of the opinion that John A MacDonald is a monster because he was PM when this program was instituted.
If this is to be acceptable criticism then it is just as acceptable to condemn all PM’s up until this program was put to an end as equally horrid.
      That would include
      Alexander McKenzie
      Wilfred Laurier
      WLM
      Louis St Laurent
      Lester Person
      And most particularly
      Pierre Elliot Trudeau

Merely holding liberals to their own standards.

Look forward to having the international airport in Montreal named after the city it’s located in, having the currency expunged of liberal PM’s and heck, let’s even redo the flag because it was brought into being while the program existed.

      Mischief is important

      1. I never refer to Dorval Airport as PET airport, just as I still call Iqaluit, Frobisher Bay and the Langevin bridge in Calgary is just that.

While stationed in Montreal, It was interesting to hear french coming over the comms, when ICAO (International CIvil Aviation Organization) protocols specifically state all communications are to be in English.
When I queried ATC (even though I understood perfectly, due to 13 years of french immersion) I was told “It doesn’t concern you. There’s no traffic in your area.”

  3. When governments come up with rubbish names like “Truth and Reconciliation”, you know it is nothing but propaganda.

    1. Take a look at South Africa and see how its “truth and reconciliation” worked out. Necklacing’s back in fashion again.

      1. Truth and Reconciliation?

Nonsense. The entire issue is surmised by the fact that the “white man” … bulldozed the Natives into the sea. Unlike the Palestinians … who want to bulldoze Israel and every Jew on the planet into the sea … we “white people” did it by building, farming, organizing a civil society. We build things. It’s in our Protestant DNA.

So what does Truth and Reconciliation actually mean? Throwing guilt money at Natives who squander it? Moaning and whining for a day about how “white people” built things … because they were more civilized and advanced? Go ahead, knock yourselves out.

But unless your Canadian Gov’t is gonna pull out of Toronto and give it all back to the Natives … then this “day” is one big circle jerk … splooging gooey white guilt all over one another. Fuck Truth and Reconciliation! Give it all back, lefties. Leave. Go back to YOUR ancestral lands. Sail EAST pronto! Anything less is useless bullshit. Your moaning apologies are useless.

This reminds of tobacco. The Gov’t has determined that smoking, chewing, and chewing tobacco is deadly and should not be done. But the Gov’t. doesn’t make tobacco illegal. Nope. They continue to profit from the massive taxation they’ve imposed on tobacco. All the governments whining and moaning about tobacco is hollow bullshit. Same with this “Truth and Reconciliation” nonsense. Nothing is “reconciled” till every last one of us white, Mexican, Latinx, AAPI, and black people LEAVE these lands.

Enjoy your circle jerk Day. And since the zoom cameras have caught quite a few government types fondling themselves … I expect full participation from the Gov’t Officials.

  4. Plett further questioned how the government can ensure it is day of commemoration and not simply a “day to stay home and put up our feet and watch TV.”

The government will find its a lot harder to force people out of their homes than it is to stay at home.
But people will go out…shopping, dining and drinking.

  5. “some 150,000 Indigenous children were ripped from their families and forced to attend church-run residential schools,”

‘Ripped’ from their families by their parents who wanted their children to have an education so they took them to the schools themselves.
At least a lot of them were.

Isn’t one of the major lessons from the residential schools issue that it was covered up by authorities and no one was allowed to ask questions or talk about it?
You know, like how we never hear anything from the government funded media about the families that took their children to the schools and how the majority of those children got valuable educations?

These fools are hiding the truth about the good that the schools did in exactly the same manner as the bad stuff was hidden.
Not much learning going on….maybe they need another billion or so of our children’s sweet sweet borrowed tax dollars.

    1. stan, here is one success story of residential schools in Alberta.
When the fed Chretien wanted to close Blue Quills, the native community protested.
They wanted to take it over and run it themselves.
After all, the white man, the Catholic church and others had run it for a 100 yrs and as the natives said, we can’t do any worse than they already have.
      And they were right.
Blue Quills is a tribute to the natives taking things into their own hands and doing it right.

  6. Lawyers are drooling at the prospect of a huge payday. Blackie’s CBC is excited that a group of lawyers have made a formal request to the International Court to prosecute the Canadian government and the Vatican over the residential school genocide. I wonder if the International Court will ever prosecute China or Islam?

  7. This additional expensive stat holiday is an insane and feeble response to any real indigenous issues! And, I am a former federal public servant.

For those of you who have actually read the Truth and Reconciliation report, did you not think that the 92 recommendations were sort of an NDP platform? Why have any conservatives accepted it, without review? Gutless.

    https://nctr.ca/records/reports/

The current Minister of Heritage is the worst EVER, when you look at bills he sponsored.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Guilbeault

    1. Need some assistance if you could be so kind.

Who are these real conservatives you speak of?

  8. Nothing speaks truth to power more than giving the quarter million strong Dog Fucker tribe the day off.

  9. If they gave the money directly to those that claim victimhood, things would quiet down until the next time when the money runs out.
There is definitely, absolutely, positively going to be “the next time”.

    No lawyers scam needed.

    1. In any government First Nation negotiations they all conclude the same way.
“That will do …… for now”

  10. If my memory serves me wasn’t Jean Chretien head of Indian Affairs in PET’s 1968 cabinet? Should we go after him with a petition as well?!!

    1. If my memory serves me wasn’t Jean Chretien head of Indian Affairs in PET’s 1968 cabinet?

Yup and I don’t think he was too popular with the natives.

    2. That’s hilarious that you remember that.
When Pierre introduced Jean Chretien as his new Minister of Indian Affairs, he called Chretien his “Indian fighter”.

So you know what he thought of the Indians at the time.

  11. Truth? Jesus was crucified for speaking the truth.

Reconciliation? Do they mean forgiveness? Because the only one who can forgive our masters’ sins is their Creator, the One they are sure doesn’t exist and whom they hold decent people in contempt for having faith in.

Wiping the Indian off the face of the earth would have been much easier than trying to wipe out the Jews, and would have cost humanity much less. We didn’t, because once the Indian gave up making war on us we stopped thinking doing so worthwhile.

On the contrary. We showered the Indians with the fruits of our civilization, thinking it our Christian duty to help them.

If you weren’t a pedophile Catholic priest who gained access to government money and little boys, all you likely got in return was proof that most Indians weren’t worth trying to help. Certainly you got nothing resembling gratitude.

  12. Truth is that apartheid is flourishing in Canada thanks to the Indian Act and a politic that prefers infinite racial grievance and state paternalism run on well nurtured white guilt and an SCOC that entices the Indian leadership with hopes of apartheid reversal rather than elimination. Reconciliation will occur when the Indian Act is nullified and replaced with an invitation to normalized relations where individual Indians have property rights along with everyone else and everyone is entitled the same natural rights. IOW, not in our lifetime and not in the deranged dominion.

Another F…..g politically inspired, virtue signaling, useless excuse for a holiday is the absolute extent of the abilities of the current crop of psychopaths holding elected office.

    1. They will spend the free day just visiting, having a beer, going shopping, watching Tv/Internet, just like the rest of us.

  13. Oops! True North reports that the Grand Poobah stated today that its not a mass grave at the residential school site. The media made up the story that it’s a mass grave.

  14. Exactly. Shut down Indian Affairs. If Quebec can change the constitution, maybe we all should, as it is just a dream for lawyers and leaves us with fewer rights from I was born.

Maybe, set all the “so-called” first (some tiny) “nations” free to be modern Canadians. Did they invent TVs, highways, electricity, decent hospitals, homes with electricity or cars and skidoos and airplanes to take them to talk about reparations? Most of them like this stuff. The most successful have actually benefitted very well from our public educational systems and even land management, as we know how to clean up messes better than most reserves, although some are great.

The Kamloops band is one of the best, actually. They are doing fine, thank you.
The elderly day school kids have no claim.

Making kids go to school and study is not a bad idea, even today. My mom grew up in the Mount Royal neighbourhood, Calgary in the 1920’s and her teachers were draconian too by today’s standards. Reciting, dreadful uniforms, serious discipline.

One very successful, principled Canadian, a bit lefty
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jody_Wilson-Raybould
I actually value and enjoy her take on some discussions, but the shoulder chip remains.

    1. If you think Jody Raybould Wilson has a chip on her shoulder, you should meet her father. “We should have killed you all when we had the chance”.

  15. When I was in Grade School, there was a provincial law requiring public school attendance by all white children under the age of 14. Some parents did not value education and had no desire to send their white children to school, believing manual labour was of more value to the family. So, the law was parents who did not send their white children to school could be fined and even jailed. The County had a Truant Officer who drove around looking for white children who were not in school. He would physically seize these white children and drive them to the school. White children who repeatedly skipped or ran away from school, ended up in Reform School, a locked residential school for truant and otherwise bad white children.
At school, I recall our female principal taking mis-behaving white children into the hall to be strapped. The classroom door was left open so we could all hear the wacks. The leather strap always displayed hanging on the classroom wall. Strappings seem to be mostly bestowed on Grade 6-8 white boys many of whom came back into the classroom crying.

    1. In the 1950’s the strap was used occasionally, as you say, mostly for active boys. As a fairly active grade two girl student in Calgary, I got whacked by my grade 2 teacher with a ruler on my hand.

I survived and learned. I forget what it was for, likely talking. My parents did not run to the school crying abuse. Should I be asking for reparations?
