            He was definitely using something to lighten his skin.

    1. Canada needs a constitutional amendment along the lines of the US one, limiting the number of terms.
      However, I would modify it slightly, allowing a third term, but requiring euthanasia upon completion of the third term, and the ability of the electorate to elect someone against their wishes.

    As to the people whinging about “whitening” creams? Go try and peddle that whinge in India or Mexico or S America. They’ll just laugh at you.

  22. I respect the office of the crown so the minute a member of the royal family abdicates from their title they should be given the same treatment as any other person based on merit.

    And neither of them has achieved anything that would be regarded as merit.

      I don’t necessarily admire those I respect, and I may not respect those that I admire.

  26. Hilarious! Reminds me of my time in the 1970s in Nigeria, when lighter skin was a status symbol. The really dark skinned (literally black people could be observed) were looked down upon because Dark skin = peasant farmers working in the fields all day. Those skin lightening creams were all the rage back then amongst the elite secondary school pupils I taught. btw, the Nigerians could spot the occasional American “black” a mile off – the Americans were a distinctively pale brown colour in contrast. The Nigerians hated the conceited, obnoxious Americans for looking down their noses at the locals.

It was explained to me from someone from the Philippines, that they go out of their way to keep out of the sun and try and stay as light as possible, not because white is more pretty, but because darker skin is a sign that you have to work outside doing manual labour. People who have indoor jobs are generally lighter. Therefore skin darkness is a show of socio economic status, just like a pair of brand name shoes. Not sure it is this way in all cultures, but I found that interesting.

    1. They may have inherited that from the Spanish. They do same thing in Mexico, walk along streets, under the awnings, so you don’t get too tanned!
