The answer is ridiculously simple.
1. Offer people the vaccine
2. Everyone who wants one gets a vaccine
3. The virus continues to circulate in the unvaccinated and vaccinated (the covid vaccine isn’t completely neutralizing so there’s still infection and transmission from the vaccinated)
4. The unvaccinated become infected and recover (aka. have acquired natural immunity). They now have equal or better immunity as the vaccinated.
5. Those vaccinated + those with natural immunity = end of pandemic
Not sure why experts think that those who choose to remain unvaccinated won’t gain immunity through infection and recovery. This removes the need for vaccination targets and the ongoing restriction of our rights and freedoms.
Great idea, and why not offer people who want it – Ivermectin or other treatments than seem to be preventative.

Treatment is another good point. I’m not recommending any specific drug, but, treatments are either already available or on the way. It’s yet another reason not to worry about vaccination percentages. Fairly soon, people who get covid can stay home, take the treatment and get well…without having to worry about short or long term vaccine side effects.
I doubt most people even need the treatment for a disease with a 99.7% to 99.99X% recovery rate but it should cool the “you must get vaccinated” hysteria.
Yes, you are right. That would make sense using standard epidemiological rules. Unfortunately for us, all the standard epidemiology rules for dealing with a pandemic have been thrown out the window for this particular bug. No rules apply. Everything is arbitrary.

I think that vaccine related deaths and permanent disabilities to children will be the final straw. A 12 year old having parts of her intestines removed, a blood clot causing brain damage, paralysis etc. will not be tolerated and the voters will be looking for scapegoats. Politicians, the medical profession, experts and pharmaceutical companies beware.

I’m of the opinion that “getting vaccinated” is more about who will behave a government control edict, and who might be a problem. Again, I believe it’s about power and control, not health and safety. I’m vaccinated … but there is NO WAY I would allow any of my grandchildren to be vaccinated. Seriously. I would kidnap my grandchild, and go underground to hide him from my daughter if she were so INSANE as to vaccinate for 99.999999% survivable medical inconvenience.

The arena in DC is going to full capacity June 10; during the Capitals’ playoff series with Boston there were only 5000 people allowed in a 20,000-seat building. My wife and I got vaccinated as soon as we could. If it was distilled water no harm done, if it was the real vaccine, and I’m pretty sure it was because we both had mild side effects. What I’m worried about is phase two (or four if you count SARS and the one whose name escapes me). That would be the one that kills not just the old folks and the impaired but 20-30% of the rest of us.

At a boot camp, a few showed up with COVID. They were taken away, the rest went through boot camp. At the end of boot camp, they were tested, and 25% had been exposed anyway to COVID. No one had gotten sick. So there, it was shown that herd immunity can be as low as 25%, since most people, especially young healthy people, are almost completely immune.
Another, a packing plant and a jail. In the plant, COVID spread, all were tested as having been exposed, only 5% actually got sick, the rest did not even notice. At the jail, only 2% got sick. That means 95 to 98% of people are basically immune to the disease, even without a vaccine. (Idea, give em a placebo, tell them it is a 98% effective vaccine, you are not wrong.)
It is believed, based on the actually immunities of unvaccinated people, that the highest number for herd immunity is actually 40%.
Oh, and in Israel, the highest vaccinated place on earth, they gave it first to the oldest people, fatalities went down 75%. Duh.
I’m 71 and my wife 70. We and four friends, all in their mid-late 70’s, tested positive for covid. My wife has stage 4 lung cancer and has undergone 2 1/2 yrs of chemo, radiation, immunotherapy and more chemo, so needless to say her immune system has been pummeled. Another of us deals with diabetes and yet another fell 30ft a couple of years ago, resulting in him being airlifted to hospital, multiple operations and physical therapy. The rest of us have the usual complaints that come with aging.
For all of us the covid experience was akin to a mild cold, lasting about a week. Biggest and most uniform symptom was loss of taste/smell, which returned after a couple of weeks. No congestion, no shortness of breath, no aches or pains, nor headache.
I’m frustrated because we are not recognized as having immunity despite natural immunity likely being better and longer lasting than pharmaceutically provoked immunity. In BC, that’s about 135,000 people who tested positive, but it likely includes thousands more who expressed no symptoms and thus, did not get tested. It’s crazy – my wife and I can to fly to Seattle to board a cruise ship, but not allowed to board a ferry to the mainland to visit family.
The un-vaccinated but naturally immune MUST be recognized as having the same personal rights as the vaccinated. To deny that is to discriminate and to force the already immune to accept vaccination goes against every medical and scientific principle recognized.
