Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Why are you driving today?
BECAUSE FCUK YOU THAT’S WHY
I spent a miserable afternoon fixing my truck’s canopy.
I had to replace one of the window screens because it had a tear in it. And, since I replaced one, I had to replace the other because I wanted the screens to have the same colour.
The catch was that I had to remove the entire inner window frame to get at each screen. Not all of the screws holding the window assemblies together went in straight, making me question the overall workmanship.
That helped explain why one of the windows leaked whenever it rained, something I hadn’t noticed until I brought my truck to Edmonton. I think I might have fixed that with a bit of silicone sealant.
It wasn’t a fun job, particularly since the weather was lousy and it was one of those tasks that had to be done some time.
You’ve described the same kind of task that has my neighbors asking why they hear me say “FKCU!!” so much in my driveway …
I’m sure that passersby learned a few new words if they heard me.
I celebrated Victoria Day in a grateful, laid back way, thankful for simple joys.
I prayed that we would continue to retain sufficient common sense and commonwealth to do so in the next few precious years.
To quote Bob Dylan on his 80th today…”it ain’t dark yet, but it’s gettin’ there”…
But, then, to quote Bruce Cockburn in rebuttal..”we got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight “…..
5.5hr drive, plant potatoes, beets, garlic.
I slept till noon. Got my 84 Avanti over to the gas station for its first trip out of the garage in 15 years…now have to get the power steering back into good order or start working out with 50# dumbbells. Now resting with rum and cola for the evening.
I learned the difference between a dirty bus stop and a lobster with breast implants.
One is a crusty bus station and the other is busty cructecean.
Crustaceans …. I remember enough of my paleontology that I had to correct u …. sorry
O’Tool’s running shoes look unused … like they came straight out of the box.
– And he looks like he’s working-at negating any accusations of misogyny from his “other” tweet – after-the-fact, of course.
Way too late, O’FOOL – WAY too late.
Well, I read SDA and hammered in some songs for you guys earlier, for a change. They said it was Bob Dylan’s Birthday today.
Shoulders ache. Been pruning last year’s growth off perennial flowers and shrubs for the last few weeks. Had to be brutal with a massive Honeysuckle. They’re impossible, take my advice, never plant one. I was grateful that it rained mostly all weekend in Calgary and that I got to rest hardworking hands, somewhat. Read a bit of my current book of choice, “The Billionaire Murders, The Mysterious Deaths Of Barry And Honey Sherman” by Kevin Donovan. They’re the Toronto couple who used to own the generic pharmaceutical company, “Apotex.”
Baked cake to feed the freezer in the event you all drop in for coffee. Also oven baked fish and veggies. This evening listened to an enjoyable concert by an old ’70s group named “Orleans” which was recorded from The Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket R.I. on March 20, 2018. They sounded terrific. Here’s the link. It’s 36:54 minutes duration.
So Enjoy!

Your still the one! Remember that one riding the school bus Nancy.
And hey Otoole. How about national debt, fake pandemic, creeping sharia, and totalitarian social media, you shapeless thumb.
And you’re very funny!
P.S. You had music on the school bus?
I got to school on a random Montreal city bus. Our gang was so loud, laughing and speaking English that I think we must’ve bugged the French folks. Maybe that’s why they want to separate, ha!
Well … we never had music on the bus … but our benevolent HS Principal allowed us to have ROCK music in the quad (outdoor space where we all had lunch) every lunch hour when the weather was nice. And … true story … we were granted this privilege UNTIL … we played Led Zeppelin II. Whole Lotta Love? Little loud for the monitors, but OK … What is and What Should Never Be? actually kind of sweet, that was OK … then … The Lemon Song! Oops. Kind of raucous blues … and when the lyric … “squeeze me baby, till the juice runs down my leg” … buzzzzzzipppppp! The needle came off the record QUICK!! And we were not allowed music at lunch for the rest of the year.

This was long before the Tipper Gore “explicit lyrics” WARNING labels.
Led Zeppelin changed everything!!
Nancy, Nancy, Nancy … your COVID confinement is finally getting to you. Orleans? Really? “Dance with Me”? “I want to be your partner, dance with me”? Arrrggghhh!! You’re LOSIN IT!! That’s the kind of lp I found in my wife’s music collection (along with her Barbara Streisand records).
I don’t like to criticize people’s choice in music … accounting for personal taste and all … but some things are sooooo schmaltzy and fabricated for AM radio … that I reach my breaking point. Uggh. But since it is a significant Bobby Zimmerman birthday … I’ll share one of my favorites from 1965 … that will help clean your ears out 🙂

PS … there’s only ONE musician I will EVER listen to who blows on a Melodica … and that’s Donald Fagen. No dude from ‘Orleans’
What, you’re too cool for Augustus Pablo? He’ll show you how to handle a melodica. Sadly I can’t post a link from this device, but do yourself a favor and check him out.
Now I feel so bad for chiding you over ‘Orleans’ … that I will share one of my own guilty pleasures … The Amazing Rhythm Aces . I inherited 4 of their lips from my brother … and well … I like everything my brother liked 🙂

Kenji, Kenji, Kenji, it was the men. I’m liking old men now.
You are absolutely right Kenji, I lost my mind — trying not to be too repetitious here at SDA. It’s got to be the pandemic.
“Orleans”… what was I thinking? They’re okay! But they’re no Steely Dan. Not even close.
Soooo, on the other hand, what about you? Did you think I’d forget about how wonderfully eccentric and far-out you are? Ha, ha, at least you are affable, as in old white man affable! You told us you like uh, was it moolah, or was it rye or pumpernickel or is it plain…..

This is more like it:

So what about this, are we even now? Or are we just getting old?
Ha! Just kidding!
Enjoy the music!
I’m so glad you’re an affable female match to my affable old boomer dude self …
Yep, you got me. Bread … OMG! But since they’re my wife’s favorite … I had to buy her the sensational MOFI 45 rpm dbl lp

You did know that I was at that GREAT Steely Dan show in 1993. Sitting at orchestra level … dead center … about 10 rows up. Sonic bliss. How did I score those tickets for SD’s FIRST concert tour since 1974? Well, my best friend and SD enthusiast is an ordained Minister, and he had done a wedding for an executive working for Bill Graham Presents. When he asked how my friend wanted to be paid … he said … how about tickets to Steely Dan? Next thing I know, we are sitting in the BEST seats in the house. Probably the most amazing concert ever. Look at the full orchestra and all … what a night!
Wow! Kenji, Steely Dan! You’re so lucky. I think they were at their peak in ’93!
Fagen is a big crush, something about the way he turns his head when he plays, I dunno, we women are funny sometimes.
And they hit the ground running in 93 despite not having played live since 1974. Such a ‘tight’ band … totally on point. I have attended several SD concerts thereafter … the best of which was at the Auditorium Theatre, Chicago. But … they kinda went downhill and were just mailing it in in the 2000’s. Fagen is NY cool. I can see the attraction regardless of his *ahem* quirky looks
I went for a cycle ride, and at the end of the day my husband and I had a picnic at a park on the beautiful Ottawa River. Great way to spend Victoria Day.
Monday was spent recovering from treating Sunday like a Saturday night…=)
Well as an American living in Germany, Happy Victoria Day and yes I did do some driving; down to Gamisch-Partnachen where we spent the weekend hiking in the splendor of the Ammergauer Alps. So blessedly far away from all those zombies that inhabit places of pwoer in contemporary western capitals. PS, long time fan of SDA.
I spent a stressful long weekend vetting a second-round article resubmission to Canadian Public Policy, an academic journal. I absolutely hate going through school-marm hoops, correcting for nit-picky style rules for the editors. I did this for two days!!
Btw, the research article says that — given the Canada Summer Jobs “attestation box” controversey back in 2018 — Catholic and Evangelical churches lost about 3,000 summer jobs, given that minister Patty Hadju forced Canada Summer Jobs employers to sign an attestation agreement saying they support abortion and LBGTQ rights.
Golf Sat , Sun , Mon and plenty of pool time with the grandkids ….doesn’t get any better .
Given it rained for the past 4 days straight here in Cowtown….we decided to do some reno’s on our Citation 5th wheel RV. Paint all the cabinets/drawers and say goodbye to wood decor. Still a work in progress…I’ll be there today as well…finishing up..!! tis a lot Brighter in here now..!!
Had a very nice drive up to the cottage on Saturday morning with no maintenance issues. As we approached the Aurora Sideroad on highway 400, I was very happy to see a big red and white flag on some farm land: “Fight for Freedom.”
Watched some NASCAR, Indy, and F1. That Bottas pitstop was brutal. Can’t remember which driver had a two second pitstop (Hamilton?). Incredible!
Plenty of adult beverages for us. Old Hickory cocktails pour moi, an Aussie GSM with steak, and a Chianti with pasta. Bourbon and a Cohiba for hubby on Sunday night. Life is good.
Sounds like a perfect weekend especially Bourbon paired with a Cohiba, That is always stellar. Hope your hubby enjoyed it.
Went for a nice buzz around in my airplane. Lovely flying conditions, but since everything is closed, there’s nothing much to do when I land somewhere, apart from chatting to other bored pilots.
Was horrified when taxiing to the runway, I passed a Cessna from the local flight school that ground control held to let me pass. Both pilots were wearing face diapers!! Great idea, restrict oxygen intake, increase CO2 intake and go fly nice and high. Madness.
I had a fun time (NOT) fixing a plugged sewage pipe and cleaning up raw sewage from a back up in my basement! After deodorizing the basement and a hot shower, the three or so stiff brandy’s helped create a happy place while I watched an old rerun of Camalot on TV. Yeah silly and goofy, but at least none of the current world issues to interrupt. We had spicy pork buttons for supper as well, yum, so it wasn’t all bad.
