The Colonial Pipeline, responsible for the country’s largest fuel pipeline, shut down all its operations Friday after hackers broke into some of its networks. All four of its main lines remain offline.
The emergency declaration from the Department of Transportation aims to ramp up alternative transportation routes for oil and gas. It lifts regulations on drivers carrying fuel in 17 states across the South and eastern United States, as well as the District of Columbia, allowing them to drive between fuel distributors and local gas stations on more overtime hours and less sleep than federal restrictions normally allow. The U.S. is already dealing with a shortage of tanker truck drivers.
The emergency order extends through June 8, and can be renewed. Colonial has yet to declare a date it expects it will resume full operations.

Sure, Kate, because “the left” is collectively calling for a complete, cold-turkey shutdown of all oil production/distribution/consumption tomorrow, as opposed to a multi-decade, phased transition to a sustainable low-carbon economy.

All leftist political parties, gov’t depts, ENGOs, etc, etc, etc have all demanded we go to net zero and the faster the better. It used to be 2050, then 2040, then 2030, and now some are calling for 2025. How will this be possible? It is, and can only be, possible by abandoning petroleum regardless of any alternative technology being ready or not (and it is most definitely a not).
If the left has their way, it won’t just be those eastern bastards who freeze in the dark.

The federal plan there is net-zero by 2050. 29 years away = “multi-decade”.
The plan there includes carbon capture and emission offsets = “phased”.
The left wants a complete shutdown from petroleum. The left wants the west (USA, UK, Can, etc) dead. Period.
They call it net zero as it leads twits to believe that we will simply use some other energy rather which does not exist. They lead people to believe they will just have an electric car, instead of a gas/diesel when in fact they intend that you just won’t own a car. Neither will you eat much meat (<90% of current), nor heat your house (< 12 C instead of 20C), nor travel, nor do much of anything fun at all. They want you subservient, envious, cold, hungry, miserable, but preferably dead.

The left in Canada believe that we should not have a fossil fuel based energy industry by 2050. That’s a quote from Gerald Butts, our meat-head Prime Minister’s principle thinker and advisor. That’s as “cold-turkey” as it gets for a nation. The soonest Canada or any other nation goes “low carbon” will be when they fully embrace nuclear energy. It’s physically not possible any other way. Until then, it’ll be fossil fuels. Unless by “sustainable” you mean a cold, calculated impoverishment of the next 10 generations of Canadians.
What doesn’t seem to occur to some of you guys is that yes, they want it all shut down…for us! They want to “conserve” these resources for themselves. They still fly to Davos in private jets, but they expect us to quit with our use of such energy, so there is more left for them. If they ever manage to achieve their total shutdown of fossil fuel use, do you imagine for one moment there won’t be enough still produced, somewhere, to ensure their needs are taken care of. Our needs don’t matter, because, we don’t matter, to them. However, I too, hope line five is shut down, if for no other reason than to wake the east (Canada and US) the F up!
