Not 10 mins after posting that, I heard that the Toronto Police Service had issued a press release that their members would NOT stop people to question their travels, although that defiance could simply be because Ford ‘identifies’ as a Conservative.
So, I am somewhat glad to see I was overstating that last point. But, the fact still remains that the vast majority of Canadian law enforcement seem quite happy to ignore Canadian Law when asked to do so.
We are being shunned by family – even on Mother’s Day – because we won’t get vaccinated. Divided we fall.

Buddy, I agree, to a certain extant. My family has been living in fear since the beginning and they are real people who worked and work hard for everything they have. Their security and standard of living are earned and deserved.
What I’ve noticed is that the Chinese Plague did not affect them the same way it has affected others. They still have their jobs in essential services, or are able to work from home, or still have their pensions and retirement income.
Yeah, it’s a pain in the backside not being able to get your haircut for over one year (terrified!) but what about the hairstylist who has been out of work for most of that time?
Just returned from an *outdoor* gardening supply store. I was the only one there without a mask. Cashier gave me a funny stare but didn’t say anything. At least there’s that.
I JUST returned from Safeway grocery store. Directly ahead of me in the checkout line, was a maskless Indian woman (Hindu) in a sari. The female Asian Checker scolded her for not wearing a mask, and said she would not check her out if she didn’t wear a mask. Great! Lucky me, I get into one of THOSE lines … ugggh.
But the Indian woman complied by taking her see-through scarf (useless) and wrapping it around her face. Then! I hear a loud, perturbed, “EXCUSE ME!” … and the Indian womans friend shoves past me in line with an armful of packages she put on the checkout belt. Yep … one of THOSE checkout lines. She was probably a Brahmin, and considered a graying white man to be lower than dirt in her twisted caste roulette. Thankfully, she had her “mask” on.
Both these women spoke Hindi in line, and could have been FOB Indians .. just arrived after fleeing the pandemic in Mumbai. Great. Now I’m gonna catch the Hindu-variant COVID and suffocate to death. Sheesh … I was just picking up the week’s groceries. I didn’t plan on rubbing night shirts with infected Hindu travelers.
When the Indian women were checked out and I stepped up to the digital keypad … the cute Asian Checker issued a plaintive “WAIT!” … and proceeded to wipe down the keypad and credit card machine with disinfectant. Why … she was almost … ‘profiling’ … these Hindi-speaking, non-compliant, foreigners. The young Asian Checker was almost committing an AAPI HATE crime!? Oh wait! Asian-American, Pacific Islander HATE? Nope. The Indian women didn’t fit into THAT category … so Nevermind. I sort of chuckled and told the Checker not to worry … I’ve been vaccinated. But I really appreciated the young, cute, Asian Checker going out of her way to protect me …

Others said it already (0many times) the whole pandemic response is just an exercise in crowd control. It would cost them less too build a few hospitals than it coted them to shut down the economy. The article is exactly right. I wasn’t very popular when I advocated for caution, though I always thought that the lockdowns were ill advised and only served to put the burden on the poor and powerless, but once everybody over 60 has had their chance to be vaccinated, if some of them declined, that’s their risk to take. The risk for the rest is low. Re-open the Canadian border already! I need some proper poutine.
Cutting off the Canadian tourism in my part of Vermont has been pretty devastating, and for no good reason at this point. Vermont is a pretty blue state, with some surprisingly red areas, and things are open here. Bars and restaurants have capacity limits, but indoor dining, drinking, is all a go and people are enjoying it. I am not sure what is keeping the movie theaters closed though. Cases have been going up in places here, among the people who are at low risk, great! That brings herd immunity that much faster! If some 70 year old man refused the vaccine and croaks due to COVID, that’s sad, but it’s on him. The economy needs to restart already. We have met all of the criteria to re-open that was set at the beginning.
Some of the biggest gutless losers we have in Canada today are our members of parliament. The average local member thinks if he goes with the flow he maybe will be reelected. As far as covid goes I believe the majority know it is a total hoax but are afraid to say anything or face getting kicked out of their precious party.

The US is still averaging 700 COVID deaths per day, which is at least double the current per-capita rates in Canada, the UK, Israel, etc.
