  1. Where are the rising oceans that are caused by global warming??

Bring in the US Navy, please!!

  2. The Egyptians did something similar during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. The canal was blocked with scuttled ships and assorted wreckage. It took a while to finally clear it all away.

    1. Time to use the MOAB…
      Mother-of-all-bombs.
That would clear the blockage mighty quick.

    1. Funny thing. That’s how I feel about that region of the world. A toilet.

BTW … the ship ran aground because … “loss of power”? Sorry. I ain’t buyin it. What’s the Indian name for Joseph Hazelwood?

      1. Indeed. Funny how the rest of the news (not Indian) is reporting 40 knot winds (46 mph) and a sand storm.
I can’t tell where the bridge is but it looks over-stacked.
Vessel is chartered by a Taiwanese company but owned and operated by a Japanese company (under a Panamanian flag with an Indian crew).

If they were serious, helicopters would already be pulling containers.
        This is fun

Like most large container ships, Ever Given is propelled by a single low-speed two-stroke crosshead diesel engine coupled to a fixed-pitch propeller. The main engine, an 11-cylinder license-manufactured Mitsui–MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9, is rated at 59,300 kW (79,500 horsepower) at 79 rpm and gives the vessel a service speed of 22.8 knots (42.2 km/h; 26.2 mph).[4] In addition, the vessel has four 8-cylinder Yanmar 8EY33LW auxiliary diesel generators.[4] For maneuvering in ports, Ever Given has two 2,500 kW (3,400 hp) bow thrusters.[4]

        Not a power failure.
        Weather authority / Navigator error.
        …or it was deliberate.

        1. Geeze, that ship sounds like a floating united nations!
God forbid they plug their toilets.

        2. DELIBERATE…….no question about it…IMO of course.
Anyone believing the Multi Billionaire Global elites don’t have their own version of SEAL TEAM 6…?? are dreaming.

What a great way to TOTALLY FUCK up the planets Economy if that was your plan.

And the question was already asked. It’s 3 days now…still no sign of ANY Sikorsky CH 54A Sky Cranes…?? Wonder why that is eh.?? Mind you, not too many of them in service these days….what a shit show..!!

  3. I would not doubt that the ccp sent a small notice to the ship to do that. What a way to get back at most of the known free world.

        1. Chump change for the CCP, causing economic mayhem to “the west”. One mega ship load of junk and not even their ship. Asymmetric Warfare. How’s traffic out of Iran to Chinah these days? Clear sailing on the Persian Gulf? Still “trading” with them?

  4. Offload the ship’s entire bunker fuel content. that should give it an inch or two lift while using tugboats at the prow and stern to center it. If that does not work, then it gets even more costly to offload containers where there are no facilities. Good luck fellas.

  5. The bought and paid for media reports that gas prices in Eastern Canada will go up due to blocked oil shipments in the canal. This will be in addition to the carbon tax going up April 1st. If only there was some way to transport oil from Western Canada to Eastern Canada.

    1. Send by rail, but ensure it all goes through Lac Megantic on its way to an Irving refinery.

  6. Listening to the narration of the situation, my curiosity was peaked when it stated that Evergreen was the 7th largest shipping company in the world. That the complications with this rescue could be so colstly that it could bamkrupt the Taiwanese company or the lawsuits by other companies for lost revenues.
If the CCP had ordered the grounding to cripple Taiwan and try and break the nation, would I be surprised? Hardly.

There are no conspiracies, just coincidences.

  7. “If they were serious, helicopters would already be pulling containers.”

Leeeeedle problem with that… The Skycrane can lift (according to Wikipedia) 10 tons; the Mi-10 a slung load of 8 tons. And some of the containers can weigh up to 37 tons. Plus, it’s really hot there most of the time – and there are these 40-kt winds, and sandstorms, and the ship’s superstructure to avoid hovering into…

And as Richard North points-out, they’re going to have to be really, REALLY careful how they do this, or they’ll break the ship in half anyways; the steel a ship is made-of, in proportion to its size, is ~as fragile as an eggshell; and this eggshell is 1320′ long and 224,000 tons, with 10,000 containers on it. So anyways, here’s North’s take:

  8. The talk on CNBC business and BNN-Bloomberg business news is that it will take several weeks to unplug the toilet. Juat saying.

Also, there is talk in Ottawa that Global Affairs Canada wants to bring in some soft power, to help the Egyptians on this crisis.

  9. methinks the suez wedgie gonna continue to be a wedgie till end of april.
    jest sayin’ . . . . .

  10. “Someone’s gonna need a bigger insurance.”

You might just have that right – I saw a news report, the ship carries $140 million of liability insurance – and the canal is blocking 6.6 billion pounds’ worth of shipping business per day.

“methinks the suez wedgie gonna continue to be a wedgie till end of april.
    jest sayin’ . . . . .

    – Yeah, they widened the canal in 2015 so big ships like that could use it – pity they didn’t widen it enough that a ship that big could go down it sideways…

    1. Um’, so they widened it to accommodate larger ships, hmmm, maybe the should have dredged it a little deeper as well eh!

While traversing this canal, the ships are required to have two local pilots, that are supposed to know the weather and canal issues intimately. As in all walks of life, there are about 10% of really good people at the top of their chosen profession, and then there is about 80% of average types, and then what I call the 10% average slob factor. Maybe they just ended up with two slobs at the same time. It is Egypt, so I’m guessing quality professionals are scarce as well.

  11. Indian crew, Egyptian pilots, Taiwanese owned, Panamanian registry. What could possibly go wrong?

  12. If the wind can blow a ship sideways then it makes sense the wind blew Biden down three times coming up a aircraft stairs. The only question is, was it a hot wind?
