Liberal House leader Pablo Rodriguez says it has long been a practice of Parliament for the buck to stop with cabinet ministers when it comes to who is held responsible and questioned at committee.
The Conservatives’ motion Thursday is nothing but a “heavy handed” form of partisan intimidation, Rodriguez said.
“Members of this House are protected from intimidation through our parliamentary privilege. It is irresponsible for members to turn this protection into weapons against those who are not covered by these protections,” Rodriguez said in the House of Commons Thursday morning.
“Not only is it irresponsible, it is a clear abuse of power.”
The Conservatives’ motion is aimed at getting three members of the prime minister’s staff before the ethics committee to provide more information on the WE Charity affair.
They also want the former chief of staff to the defence minister, who now works for another minister, to appear at the defence committee to shed more light on sexual misconduct issues in the Canadian Armed Forces.”

Liberals, as always trying to keep a lid on things. Of course they don’t want staffers to appear. Staffers might actually give an honest answer to a question. I think “abusing power” is the wrong expression to use regarding Conservatives — it is a reminder of our current political dictatorship. No one has any power exept the Liberal dictators. There is an excellent example in today’s Ottawa Citizen of how the mainstream media alters and distorts basic facts to provide cover for the Dear Leader in order to keep him in office. Rather than a report and a headline highlighting the Dear Leader’s abysmal performance in providing China virus vaccines for Canadians, the report’s headline and most of the text blames Ontario (i.e., Doug Ford ) for the vaccine shortage in Ottawa. It is only the very last sentence of the report that suggests, every so gently and indirectly, that the federal government could have some role in the vaccine shortage.

I actually get the Ottawa Citizen. My husband reads it. I have stopped reading it because of the manipulation and deception, even Letters are censored if they do not follow the narrative. Plus, they are exploiting the pandemic. They had a “series” on people who have died from Covid– personal stories. Mostly these people were 80+ (“Met Martha in 1952”, etc,) so there was a certain similarity in their stories, and predictability. I thought the series was goulish and wondered when they might do similar series on people who died from cancer . . . or whatever. It was very stupid. Anyway, the stupidity has gotten to me and after my husband is done reading, the newspaper goes right into the recycle.
The only reason we still have a home subscription to the Citizen is that my wife likes to read a newspaper with her morning tea. If left to my own devices, I would cancel the subscription.
I do enjoy reading, though, the occasional article by Randall Denley, who seems to be alone in being able to cut through the politicians’ bafflegab to get to the heart of the matter. His recent articles on “affordable housing” in Ottawa show what journalism can and should be.
The other benefit I receive from the print copy of the Citizen is as a fire-starter for my wood-burning fireplace.

This is a message from S.P.V.M. aka The Société Police de la Ville de Montréal, and it is loud and clear. That is, the night before this incident in the video Yanky Pollack gets pulled over and then gets let go and the next night, he and reporters with him, get fined. Has Head Office and a Judge already passed judgement and is this ‘something’, — something we don’t know about yet? Will all these cases from Rebel News and their cause, “Fight The Fines,” be lost cases and all the fines still have to be paid? Mark my words, they want their money and they’ll try to take Ezra down too. I am very worried. They’ll claim and use the excuse of the War/Emergency Measures Act for citizen’s protection from Covid.

Let’s hope that Rebel’s lawyer Chad Williamson can help Outlaws Taphouse owners Marla Fraser and Kerry Lambert reopen their establishment. This business on 52nd St S.E. Calgary has been licensed since 2019. They offer bar/restaurant service, live music/ karaoke and a D.J. venue all under one roof. Sounds and looks like a fun place. You’ve got to feel sorry for people who lose their business and livelihoods due to Liberal government thugs.This insanity has to stop. Another movie alert. Tomorrow night, TCM will be showing A Man for All Seasons, followed by Luther.
The former is often shown on the channel, and it’s definitely worth watching. Outstanding performances by Paul Scofield (Thomas More), Robert Shaw (Henry VIII), Orson Welles (Cardinal Wolsey), and Leo McKern (Thomas Cromwell). Watch for John Hurt in an early role as Richard Rich.
The latter features Stacy Keach as Martin Luther. Watch for Dame Judy Dench in an early role.

As for “Luther” –haven’t seen it and ditto for record. This part of history had changed the World and introduced Protestantism as a result and a new religion, including the “work ethic”–which is, in fact, what changed the World.

I remember seeing Luther on PBS many years ago, back when that channel still showed something worth watching.
With respect to Luther, there’s also the movie Martin Luther, starring Niall MacGinnis, which was made nearly 70 years ago. I watched it as part of a PBS presentation commemorating his 500th birthday and I thought it quite good.
It’s been uploaded to YouTube, so I might take a look at it again some time.
