I’m old enough to remember when it was called “killing”.
The Senate has passed a bill to expand access to medical assistance in dying, including eventually to people suffering solely from mental illnesses.
By a vote of 60-25, with five abstentions, senators accepted Wednesday a revised version of Bill C-7, even though the government rejected or modified amendments made by the Senate. […]
The government had originally intended to impose a blanket ban on assisted dying for people suffering solely from mental illnesses. But, under pressure from senators who believed that exclusion was unconstitutional, it subsequently put a two-year time limit on it.
In the words of a former Saskatchewan NDP cabinet minister, we owe a duty to our health care system; to live healthfully and die quickly.
If we understand that a person in Canada consumes at least 60% of their life time cost to health care in the last two years of their life, should we not fear that the financial powers will see that reducing the last two years of life to one year of life could be the most cost effective approach to the problem. Is there a conflict of interest having the same system determine the services provided, who they will be provided to and when they will be provided, and containing cost in a society of competing values.
Another flashback.

I’m doing my part still smoking cigarettes for over 50 years…
Damn slow way to go through.
Yea…watch as they include Right Wing Straight non Gender bent thought processes as being …….”MENTALLY ILL”
You know that is the stretch and it WILL happen. The THOUGHT POLICE will get ya…I’m sure I’m already high on their list. Leftist EVIL knows no bounds.
SuperStraight. They hate the term, so let’s use it.
Me, too. Coming up on 50 years of smoking.
Kurt Vonnegut, a life long smoker, once threatened to sue Pall Mall because the ciggies had failed to kill him.
I remember a cautionary tale from college. Indonesia or Malaysia (I can’t recall which) was starting to put warning labels on cigarette packages. The stickers were bought before they decided on what the message would be. “Doctors warn that half of all people who smoke cigarettes will die” made it onto the stickers.
There was a huge rush to buy those packs, as they were promising eternal life to half of the lucky smokers.
“From smoking cigarettes regularly” was printed on the next line down below the pre-cut line on the stickers. It never made it onto the packs.
Whoops, so much for warnings decreasing smoking.
I remember when warnings first appeared on packages of Canadian cigs. My friends used to trade packs with different warnings so we could collect the entire set.
“…including eventually to people suffering solely from mental illnesses.”
Hopefully, that would focus on leftards.
Not surprised, the liberals championed shutting down mental health institutions in favor of monthly welfare cheques- now the mentally ill live on the streets suffering untold hello. Now the state can kill the mentally ill they drove into homelessness. The tolerant left.
Too bad Trump pushed « operation warp speed « , had the virus been free to roam for a few more years, a lot more Canadian healthcare cost savings would of occurred…Justin needs to call China and order a variant of COVID; one that would « take care » of the mentally ill…call it COVID-coocoo or something.
You know that “slippery slope” everyone was warning us about? We’re on it.
Exactly how does a mentally ill person consent? Slippery slope for sure. Eventually they’ll assume that since 90% of people with a certain ailment chose to die, that means implied consent for 100%.
“If only Ma would finally kick the bucket, we could afford the down payment on that nice townhouse with the inheritance”
It’s going to happen.
My doctor buddy says now that when people ask him about stuff like this he just says it’s demons and like 50% nod their head.
Get your euthanasia now before it’s mandatory! That’s my plan anyway.
What could possibly go wrong?
It’s not like anyone ever tried to brain wash the mentally vulnerable before right?
I’m old enough to remember when Adolph H. was HATED for doing the same thing.
Oh!? You thought Adolph only murdered mentally ill Joos and Gipsies?
The Aktion T4 program was the ‘Farm Team’ that the SS used to recruit the full time staff for the Death Camps.
Incurable insanity was one of the main characteristics of the Aktion T4 inmates.
“Vhat?! You oppose the government’s policies? You must be insane!!”

Who’s doing this..?? “..Your comment is awaiting moderation. This is a preview; your comment will be visible after it has been approved…”‘
You.??
I had one attempted post respond with that warning today. It took about 20 minutes before someone was able to check and see that there wasn’t anything too wrong-think about it, and it displays now. All other posts (like UnMe baiting) are posting properly.
Ha! this response is my second “awaiting moderation” post today.

So, what’s the entry to exit ratio that defines a place as an abattoir as opposed to a hospital?
So the eugenists are back
Dr. Henry Morgenthaler was a self admitted eugenicist. Over 3 million Canadian babies have been murdered since he got back.
Toward a more perfect ant colony.
The end game of liberalism is law of the jungle.
In the former Soviet Union, mental illness included, “Failure to recognize socialist reality”.
Kind of puts the whole notion of suicide prevention into disarray. Where is the line drawn? Its an irreversible decision. You don’t get to change your mind after the fact. Or when the medication kicks in.
People of sound mind have a right to determine when to end their own lives. But I’m not sure that extends to forcing others to help them do it. Your rights shouldn’t negate others rights based on their moral principles to refuse to kill you. Because it is killing. You can fancy it up with euphemisms but it is what it is. Some physicians will be comfortable doing this in some circumstances and some will not even be comfortable making referrals to accommodate it.
Without debating the moral issues, we need only look at abortion statistics to see how easily and quickly this can escalate. There is good reason why the disabled and elderly are uneasy. More energy and investments in good palliative care might be a better first step. But not as easy or as cheap.
Me, I’ll be killed by death, nothing else will do.
The mental illness section aside, this is a huge win for freedom. Freedom to live ones life requires freedom to end it and assist others in doing so.
You are obviously mentally ill, allow someone the freedom to put you out of your misery.
End of life decisions have ALWAYS been in the hands of the individual. The State has NO business interfering. It’s a laughable MYTH that desperate people cannot off themselves because of Laws “preventing” suicide. Nonsense. For example, my 81yo (leftist) neighbor killed himself in his own garage. Sealed the doors, started up his 1972 VW Bug … and went to permanent sleep. Seems he was depressed that his wife had been moved to a Nursing home, and one of his two daughters moved 2,000 miles to the East. Lonely, and liberal, with nothing to live-for. A selfish prick … but he encountered NO difficulty in choosing a peaceful end, free of pain or struggle.
It’s far more difficult to “euthanize” a mass murderer than it is to suicide oneself.
And assist other to do so? That’s legalised murder not freedom. If you want to off yourself, feel free to do so on your own.
That’s not murder. Murder is not consensual.
Part of the problem is that MAiD is often NOT truly consensual, even before Bill C-7. 1) There is already lots of pressure on vulnerable people to “choose” this route when they actually have no good alternative choices; 2) There is already lots of pressure pressure on doctors to facilitate MAiD, even when it violates their deepest convictions.
“Willing patient; willing doctor” is how MAiD was sold by our provincial licensing authority, but it ain’t so. One of our pioneer MAiD providers showed up in my office recently, thoroughly dismayed by how quickly the restrictions and “safeguards” in Bill C-14 have become meaningless, to acknowledge that I had been right about our inability to open this door “just a little” — they thought that Canada could somehow get it right. Wrong.
How is a mentally ill person a willing participant in the death the Crown has mandated for him?
Consider the ninety year old woman who was euthanised or the disabled person who was euthanised. Their choices were to return to the squalid hellholes where they were living or nothing (no family or their family was happy to have them gone).
The cruelty upon cruelty here is that we let these “willing” participants suffer before we poison them.

Neither is being euthanised because no one wants you around.
F— you, Unme.
Seriously.
These people are no longer in your face so you don’t have to deal with them.
History is never kind to people like you.
“F— you, Unme.”
Many have done that already, didn’t help, the opposite in fact, ocular penetration caused lasting damage.
Yeah, I guess.
I see a potential conflict of interest between organ transplants and euthanasia.
“Freedom to live ones life requires freedom to end it.”
Sure. True freedom for me would be to end your life. It’s just logical. After all, there is no reason that you even exist./
True freedom would be the ability to sell one’s own organs. Walter Williams has a couple of OpEds on the topic. Whether this should also apply for the sale of the organs of one to be euthanized, and/or a wholly dependent adult (who cannot make decisions for themselves) are logical follow-up questions in my mind.
3rd moderated post today.
The “Rapture” can’t come soon enough.
Firs they make it legal, then they make it mandatory. Logan’s Run, anyone?
Yeah I remember….Logan ran!
Running was part of his assignment to find Sanctuary.
Read the book and seen the movie.
Its weird that when people vote for NAZI’s they get NAZI policies… weird.
Hitler never died, he moved to Canada where his policies were considered, “progressive”…. Progressive Death Camps has such a nice ring to it.
Canadian politicians are the “nice” NAZI’s…. It will be interesting to see which other NAZI policies Canadians accept as
the new normal”.
Dr. Morgantaler, I am sure, was groomed by Dr. Mengele as revenge for the Allied victory.
Because you would think that someone that survived the death camp as a child would lean towards the sanctity of life. Not be a butcher.
Canadians have absolutely no moral legs to stand on any more.
They elected a China-loving, blackface-wearing groper who is so stupid that a fire hydrant could outwit him. His party is riddled with perverts.
We have no abortion law and Canadians are super-peachy about that.
Now, we are going to kill the sick, elderly and the mentally ill a la Hitler just so we will not have to pay for them.
After the Second World War, the Germans had no moral point to which to retreat. Their excuses for their crimes were weak and fell, predictably, on deaf ears.
That will be us in a few years.
^^^
You just wait.
We will live ashamed of what we let happen.
I just can’t wait for children of literals to start offing their parents because quality of life…
The laugh is that they won’t get any money out of it.
