Solutions in search of problems

Who knew that hiking had a diversity “problem“?

“Longtime oppression and historical barriers have kept many people of color from feeling comfortable in the American outdoors.”

The article begins with a controversial and assumption-laden assertion with no attempt to offer explanations or examples of said injustices. Presumably, anything other than uncritical acceptance of the assertion would be evidence of racist thinking in and of itself.

  1. Pure BS.

I lived in Calif for years and even the LA area.

Seen people of all (races) yes even human. Out enjoying the parks and mountains and even the deserts.

    No one cared.

Another fake group looking to cause trouble.

  2. Let me rephrase the opening:

“Longtime oppression and historical barriers have kept many white people from feeling comfortable on the basketball court. Now that may be changing. Groups in Southern California and around the nation have made it their goal to introduce white people to basketball in a positive way. Their mission is to remove barriers and help white people experience the connection, whether they are seeking fitness, healing, personal accomplishment or knowledge about all that basketball has to offer. For many, the first step is going to a game. Here are groups working toward a more diverse basketball.”

  3. Wait. What!? What did I just read? The LA Times insists that POC, including Latin-X’ers who just walked to America from El Salvador … aren’t “comfortable” on hiking trails? What!?

  4. you must accept all assertions without evidence from any leftist source, else you are racist/sexist/transphobic/etc

    1. You may think you are being sarcastic JD, but I disagree. What you have said is what they are doing. The purpose being to remove any and all dissent to their agenda of complete replacement of North American society with their socialist utopia.
Until most people start saying No to them and standing their ground both literally and figuratively, they will persist.

  6. Cottage Life magazine, based in Toronto, has recently raised the “issue” of under-representation of Blacks in cottage ownership in Canada, and wants the “issue” to be addressed.

If the magazine’s wokeness continues, I am hoping it goes broke, and I’ll help it on its way by cancelling my subscription.

    1. I’m guessing Blacks probably don’t even read this publication so why the F would the magazine even bother to waste time or ink on this issue. Oh wait…if they don’t they will be considered racist. Never mind.

    2. So glad we cancelled our subscription years ago. That’s pretty rich coming from them, with stories highlighting and advertisements aimed white people with money. No worries. The Chinese will be buying up cottage country soon enough. Lately, I’ve been getting ads on my iPhone, in Chinese, for Muskoka property.

  7. So they’ll be burning down M.E.C. and Sport-Chek next? This whole grieveance industry is tough to keep up on.

  9. If you go into any provincial or national park in Morontario for a weekend hike I guarantee you whites will be a minority. Brown will be a majority. Every time we go, the trails are filled with people from Middle East or Indian subcontinent. They like hiking and whole families go on hikes. It has been the case for decades. Never been a problem either.

  10. I have a daughter-in-law who is POC(i.e. black) I was never a racist BEFORE I met her.Now she can go to hell as far as Im concerned

  11. Speaking of solutions in search of a problem, here is a letter I’ve sent to our city council in the same vein.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Regarding the proposed “Banning of conversion therapy” or more properly, your ‘Wokeism’.

Thank you Mayor **** for being the reasonable adult on council in stating your doubt about the city’s ability to enact such a ban. More importantly, I don’t believe it is a proper role for city council to consider. Entering the realm of human behaviors, conflicting beliefs, psychology, psychiatry, the rights of parents and to what degree, potential conflict and estrangement between parents and children and so much more, by considering a law, is above your pay-grade.

An individual, Ales**** ****, speaking on behalf of a relatively small number of others, addressed a problem that apparently doesn’t exist, saying that “he doesn’t know” of any such therapy occurring in Nanaimo. This is simply another trophy bending others, – beginning with city council – to publicly plead the public’s allegiance to their special concern or grievance after which they may claim that the concerns of their particular community “are supported by everybody”, because five or more of you have voted it so. Why I ask is “th(eir) exploring and expressing their sexual orientation and gender identity” any business of mine, or for that matter the business of council?

I’m so old I remember when we just had an LGBT community. Now we have LGTBQQIA2S, with everyone assigned silos including but not limited to, “Asexual, bisexual, demisexual, graysexual, heterosexual, homosexual, gay, pansexual, questioning, queer, agender, bigender, cisgender, genderfluid, genderqueer, neutrois, trans-man, trans-woman or simply, transgender.” ‘Wokeism’ and cancel culture is being wielded like a sword, demanding that all of us, even those saying “It’s not my issue, leave me alone, or ‘I just don’t care’” are obliged to genuflect and pretend fealty, for fear of public repercussions.

I can understand how you feel. Some of you like Mr. B*****, may bask in the glow of virtuous superiority, proudly claiming the moral high ground. Some of you may feel it’s just another vacuous empty gesture that costs nothing, like the few signs that have kept us a “nuclear free zone.” I know lots of you will triangulate the costs and benefits, knowing that an election will come and that it is beneficial to have prominent, influential and well-funded activist associations in your corner.

With zero incidences of anyone being coerced or forced into a controversial therapy, this is about power and social control. Demanding a “comprehensive solution involving all three levels of government” certainly sounds like social control. While framing the discussion as an impingement to an individual’s right to self-determination, the demand is that all of society be required by law to recognize and agree with the conditions demanded of us. If we do not, we are by definition bad people. It is not enough to NOT support conversion therapy, we must, through our elected council condemn and ban the very (non-existent here, as yet) idea.

Speaking of ideas, here’s one. How about you stick to fixing roads, issuing permits, maintaining parks, planning neighborhoods and increasing public security? That’s what you were hired to do and for which you are paid. It is not your role, nor your place, to practice social engineering or to speak or spend, on behalf of an entire population of citizens and taxpayers in order to mollify a much smaller group of activist citizens whose concerns may or may not be aligned. A word of advice. Kick this one upstairs. I’m often told “It’s a provincial issue, or it’s a federal issue.” You should make this one of those.

Note: I will be unsurprised if one or more of the many ‘phobes’ are credited or attached to me. Such is the nature of society today – little actual discussion or dialogue but plenty of labeling and condemnation.

    Respectfully

    1. Thanks No Guff!
      Enjoyed your letter.
No doubt you’ll not get a reply.

I used to email Jack Layton and try to awaken him that the “Experts” at IPCC were full of shit.
Seems our politicians hyper-focus in bad science and never change their minds.
