Already in a fight to keeps it’s air traffic control tower, the Regina Airport Authority could now be facing the possibility of losing it’s “international” designation.
M.P for Regina-Wascana, Michael Kram, said a Transport Canada document he obtained listing 13 international airports, did not include either Regina or Saskatoon.
Kram says it would be very concerning from a number of standpoints for Saskatchewan airports to lose “international” status.
“It is a big concern because it will hurt our city and it’s ability to attract new businesses,” Kram said. “It will also make it more difficult for families to fly down to sunny destinations in the winter, this would make us look more like a backwater destination, instead of an international city,” he added.
Kram says the term “international” is much more than just an honorary title.

Gotta have a reason to charge everyone for the carbon tax that they want to attract business for.
Now, who in their right mind want to start any business in Canada?
We have even more regulations and restrictions now than ever before that have chased away the smartest investors.
Fart and your liable to be fined for future regulations for not wearing butt diapers.
Oh, my, God!
Not another government idea to restrict us with…
Yet PEI which has the population of a good sized town, 140,000 people has 3 airports and 2 heliports. They also have 1 University and 3 colleges. They are in on every hog trough possible. The suffering parasites of PEI will also receive 731M in major transfers. This does not include annual UI etc. To keep its 140,000 parasites fed and watered. Not including the Petite Charitable grants to various HIVE projects of a million here or there. Or the placement of Federal programs and Offices, or funds for the local Farting and Tap Dancing Societies
The Diseased Dominion always works for some.

I see a similar sidelining of the Fort St. John airport.
Before Alberta shot itself in the foot and voted for Red Rachel, YXJ was quite busy. Air Canada, WestJet, and Central Mountain Air flew there. CMA even had a direct run between Fort St. John and Edmonton. (Flight time for me was about an hour and a half.)
Traffic started dropping off after the Dippers took control in Alberta because they hated the oil and gas business. Then CMA decided that its hub airport was going to be Prince George. That move added more than 2 hours to my travel time as I had to twiddle my thumbs for an hour while changing planes and then an hour actually flying.
Along comes the Trudeau Plague and things go completely off the rails. CMA only flies between YEG and YXJ twice a week now, instead of daily (except for Saturdays). WestJet’s service is being whittled back, in part, due to what I’ve heard Onex has been doing ever since it took the airline private.
The only thing that’s left is Air Canada and the flights between FSJ and Vancouver are usually packed to the rafters now.
So much for an airport that used to be a major centre in that part of the province.
You don’t suppose this decision could be punishment for not re-electing a certain Liberal, do you?
Texas North + Texas South + All the Red States Between. Then NE BC and Alaska. Split the US Armed Forces based on population and start over.
Nope. Split US Armed Forces on where they lived before joining. No sense stranding midwesterners or Texans in Blue York City because they were assigned somewhere near the coast. I suspect that Blue America will have a lot of generals and few grunts.
Split the hardware (including remaining nuclear arsenal) based on population though.
Screw that. I would much like a world where North Dakota is the premier nuclear power. Better than whoever is left in Biden’s Pentagon.
Our votes are not required to form the government. Don’t expect Ottawa to change its mind. Separation from this toxic relationship is the only answer.
What is an independent Alberta surrounded by hostile regimes going to do?
You acknowledge the hostile regimes part. We’re not going to change their minds, so we better leave while we still have something.
Stop paying them 20 Billion a year.
They are already hostile
Northwest Territories? Puleeeze…. just a part of the Hudson’s Bay land since 1670! Kan-eh-duh wouldn’t exist if not for the HBC. Both Washington and Oregon States were HBC land, too. The Bay was our “first debt” to acquire it. I fly the HBC flag from my house, out here in Rupert’s Land. WEXIT!
I’m assuming this is another step towards controlling the movement of citizens. Funneling international travel through less airports gives the federal government tighter control and oversight.
I’ll bet.
If you want it done right,do it yourself.
The motto for the New Country,of Buffalo.
Time to stampede into the future.
Can Ahh Duh hates us,in the West, they make no secret of their malice.
So when will we believe them?
What is an independent Alberta surrounded by hostile regimes going to do?
Thrive and prosper.
Why Jim,an independent Alberta ,surrounded by hostile regimes,is not doing sweet F All right now.
Except going broke.
What have we got to lose?
As no one has been able to make a case for confederation to continue.
So what was the question Jim?
Can you outline how we currently benefit by being part of Confederated Canada?
As I would love to see that.
As would I. The side of the scale favouring independence grows heavier and heavier from the already ponderous weight. There is only a feather on the remain side.
Not shovel billions to idiots in Quebec who hate your guts for one thing.
Switzerland is landlocked and not in the European Union, yet they seem to be doing quite well.
I haven’t commented in a few days. Shall I laugh now or later? And no, I am not in Florida as the terminally stupid control my life and YOURS. Hi Kate. my posts were and are and will continue to be accurate. IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF WHAT I MIGHT SAY THEN HEY, ok. ban me.
Hey vowg, Nice to have you back. There were some of us that were concerned, as you had not posted. Your sage words are always welcome as far I’m concerned. Not sure what is going on, reason/cause, with that ban mention, but glad to have you back.
Welcome back. I also enjoy your posts.
Jim – join Saskatchewan and northern Manitoba. There we have an “port” available in Churchill,
The biggest problem is – where is the leader with enough gonads to implement the separation??? Dont look at Carpetbagger Kenney, Scott Moe or anyone else thats in the political field. Where is Uncle Ralph Klein when we need him the most. Sigh!
This is absurd. Just for comparison, a lovely small airstrip I occasionally visit in my small plane is Pelee Island
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelee_Island_Airport
3,000ft runway, small parking area, OK for single-engined planes like mine. Little brick building with washrooms, a few old but comfy chairs and an office for CBSA. Never seen anyone manning the place. Yet this is a Port of Entry, i.e. an International Airport. Nice little spot, but there is no fuel available to buy, so I have to make sure I have enough to get to another airport (not really a problem).
To deny Regina and Saskatoon is bonkers. I have checked with CBSA and there are no other airports of entry in the Province.
Airports are controlled by the Federal Government, and they hate you.
When they stop talking, and simply go to work silently on separation, then things will get better.
As long as they are issuing press releases, nothing is getting done.
Send them another donation cheque. This time will be different. This time, they will actually start doing something for Saskatchewan. Send them another vote. Volunteer some more time. This time will be different, promise. Guarantee that this time, it will not turn out like all the other times since Dec 15 1915, when ‘The Milch Cow’ cartoon was published. I promise.
Just part of Adolf’s green energy plan. He wants everyone out west to travel by covered wagon.
Sadly true: The “Green New Deal” and the “Great Reset” have, as a major plank in the policy, the destruction of the airline industry.
Canada stands out as the one country that has done absolutely nothing to help the airline industry. They keep piling on further restrictions on travel and are just waiting for airlines to collapse. So far, SkyWest has gone under (part of Air Canada Express). Sunwing and Porter have been shut down for a year, with no sign of reopening. Air Transat are shut down until at least June.
Airlines operate on very skinny margins and they have huge overheads. Zero income for over a year and a Government hell-bent on seeing them die. I am surprised they haven’t called it quits already.
Do you mean Sky Regional?
SkyWest is American, supplies planes via contracts with Alaska Airlines (as Alaska SkyWest), American Airlines (as American Eagle), Delta Air Lines (as Delta Connection), and United Airlines (as United Express). They do use some Jungle Jets (Brazilian Embraer ERJ’s), like Sky Regional, but mostly Canadian Bombardier CRJ series jets.
Used to do contract maintenance for SkyWest, the hangar in Salt Lake City is an awesome facility..
Zon: Yes Sky Regional. Not sure where I got the SkyWest from.
Thank You for setting me straight
I’m proud of the MPs that support the Buffalo Declaration. Anyone still attached to the CPC I toss onto the “LPC” pile unless proven otherwise. I know there are CPC people that say I’m the crazy one, but I figure the sooner we get moving, the sooner we’ll get out of this mess.
Will those that signed the Buffalo Declaration do the right thing after Le Dauphin regains his majority? That is; resign from the waste of space that is the CPC and commence organization of an effective movement or join together with an existing one?
Canada is already an extremely expensive and difficult place to fly out of and get anywhere. The Vancouver airport is basically locked in and can’t expand. Toronto and Montreal aren’t uniquely close to anything and Calgary is a dying city. Marking even fewer international airports makes no sense strategically or practically.
Unfortunately until we are uncomfortable enough; what’s that wise saying again: « What we need is a good famine », we shall remain behind our keyboards hoping our neighbours make the first move…
I agree totally that wexit is the only solution left, even if the move in that direction would awaken the east end to smarten up before the country cracks but certainly an association with a new red USA (btw, don’t you hate the US chose red as right wing) would assure our middle provinces better success…access to sea ports and all that energy to sell and move.
‘this would make us look more like a backwater destination’
BWAHAHAHHAHAHA… I hate to tell you this buddy, but ‘backwater’ is a perfect description for Regina. Shithole might be a better one.
Another reason this is crazy, even though the actual event doesn’t happen very often: Diverted flights. How much, if any, of a customs presence will be at either of them? For example, if an international flight, whether from the US or elsewhere, has to divert to one of Saskatoon or Regina and the passengers are going to be stuck there for a while waiting for another plane, are there going to be customs personnel ready to process them or are they going to be on the plane or piled together somewhere else for who knows how long waiting for them to show up from Winnipeg or Edmonton or Calgary?
There will be no CBSA agents available. The nearest will be Winnipeg or Calgary. That’s what it means if it is not an international airport.
This will also affect private airplanes. If I lived in SK, I would be able to fly my plane into an International Airport in the US (e.g. Billings MT), but I would have to return home via Winnipeg or Calgary. This would be a severe handicap for business travel.
The trouble is: there is nothing the SK government can do about it, apart from whining to the Feds – who don’t give a rat’s ass.
All that this means is that there will no longer be a federal government bureaucrat there to look at the passports of travelers. Just keep on flying to and from wherever you want. Who’s going to stop you? If you ignore them, the feds lose their power over you.
Can Watcher provide any updates on what is going on with regards to the vital steps we must take?
Without “international” designation, the disease ridden international flights, think Wuhan Flu, will have to land elsewhere. Let Vancouver sort out the sickly.
Shame anyone you know that listens to CCP-CBC.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
This is what happens when you defeat RaIph GoodaIe. The IiberaIs remember; and they take revenge. PEI is doing fine, because they have a Iong history of voting for whomever promises them the most goodies….which tend to be IiberaI MP’s.
I look at our Canadian situation the other way round. If 1995 had gone right, the west would be ascendant and control the federal government; so lets get Quebec to secede. Support the Bloc and insult the Quebecoise to go away and make their socialist republic without us. Transfer payments cease and one eats what one kills.
