Years ago in Sudbury there was a local bylaw that prohibited bicycles on the road in winter, because, it is Canada and only the mentally ill try and drive a bike in sub zero weather in a couple of feet of snow. That sounds like Fort St. John. As a homeowner, I’m responsible for making sure that the sidewalk along the street in front of my house is clear and safe to walk on. I get down to bare concrete, free of ice, and what happens? The municipal snowplow comes along, puts a thin layer of snow back all over the sidewalk, and then it has to be cleared off again.
During the winter, I should change my name to Sisyphus.
I call the downtown Calgary city bike lanes the “goods and services” lanes. The ‘Patch’ may have dwindled but the downtown area is not 100% dead. Many who use the bike lanes work for a Courier service. I believe law firms and others use it because the service is very efficient. I’ve seen these people on bikes wearing pack sacks, they zoom by so fast that one has to get out of their way. Or else!
Don’t forget the fees, they all charge G.S.T.
Time is money, and the City Mayor knows it.

Excellent article by Chris Selley in the National Post on how governments are violating our charter rights, but refusing to release data on how and where the China virus spreads because privacy rights must be protected.

It’s almost funny, it’s so ludicrous. We’re meant to accept that our most basic Charter rights are subject to abridgement — mobility, assembly, association, religious observance — but that “longstanding public health approach(es)” are immutable with respect to corporations and their employees, even when balanced against a consumer’s right not to patronize an establishment that can’t keep COVID-19 under control. Alas, it’s entirely of a piece with Canadian officialdom’s principled objection to providing the peasants any information at all.”

Granting pardons is particularly distasteful to me.
Why is it that the friends of those in high places can be exempted from their crimes. Many are crimes against the proles themselves.
It’s a practice that diminishes the office of the president and it should cease.
The divine right of kings is something the founders were opposed to. How is this allowed?
I am in absolute agreement. The trappings of a king.
Wouldn’t need them if the system was fair. If the pardons reversed that corruption somehow I might argue fairness but I’m not prepared to take that side.

Just because it’s Christmas, the critters shouldn’t be left out. Earlier this evening, I went my immediate neighbourhood and left some birdseed in a number of places , as well a big bunch of carrots for the rabbits in their regular feeding spot.
I’m sure they’ll all stuff themselves full over the next few days.
