He got all self righteous and indignant, probably telling them to arrest her or something. They would have none of it.     I noticed a billboard for it earlier today here. One thing I noticed was that the spelling has been changed to “Peters'”. Any Calgary SDAers know anything about this?

    1. Nothing I know about BADR, my wife and kids swear by their fries and shakes in the summer. I’m usually at work and miss out.

      My wife grew up in Calgary and has fond memories as a child.

      1. Yup. When I moved to Calgary, some of my buddies from my freshman undergrad year found there way there and we often went to Peter’s. A triple burger, a medium order of fries and a shake was more than enough for me.

        The last time I was there was in the mid-1980s and the place was as popular as it was a few years earlier.

        1. A full meal for a full price. Apparently they’re still having a hard time competing with “can’t beat our prices!” fast food, from folks who seem to think that ordering seconds is normal.

            Still, it beat anything from the main burger chains. The only place I ever ate fries that compared with what I could get at Peter’s was at a hotel in Bell’s Corners, just outside Ottawa. They were served with the best reuben sandwich I ever had.

            I made some Winter Food– an oven baked pork tenderloin and vegetable stew.
            Not as glamorous as those wicked delectables, but what the heck. Ya, no burger chains either pour moi– I hate cold food! They precook their food —the sneaks!!!! No more unless I was desperate — somewhere in between Wawa Ontario and Neverland.

        3. It opened early this year in Edmonton. There were traffic jams and long lines of cars running about a kilometer down Gateway Blvd. Never been there, or the Calgary location. Will go sometime in the future. Maybe escape the house to go get some take-out.

        As often happens with a change in ownership, the quality, compared to what was produced before, doesn’t quite measure up.

      Great burgers and they were huge compared to the mega chains.

    4. Obviously more than 1 Peter or they named the store after their peckers. Actually it was founded by Gus Peters. Apparently grammar nazis took over when he died. I was a young pup a long way from home but the only Peter’s burger I had was in 1969 on Highway 1 in Calgary. I’m not sure they did sit-down service back then.

    5. There is one in Red Deer that opened a couple of years ago. Peter’s was sold a number of years ago and I think the new owners are expanding. Good for them!

  5. There’s a Peter’s Drive-in in Gasoline Alley in Red Deer, insanely busy. I stopped there once with my 12-yr-old daughter, she went into the very busy lady’s washroom and there was a big dump right in the middle of the floor, we won’t do there again.

    1. I remember the prices were a bit higher than the main chains, but one also got more for that money. For example, the fries at Peter’s were huge compared to the toothpick-sized spuds one got at McDonald’s.

      1. Ate there once, in the original in Calgary, many years ago; prices were cheaper than McD’s – and there was a McD’s right across the street. I imagine it wasn’t there very long.

    1. Shortly after I started teaching at Armpit College, I had a rather eccentric student, a genuine fruitloop. He came to us after having started in engineering at university, but either dropped out or was given what we called a “dean’s vacation”. As I recall, the kid never finished his studies at AC and, the last I heard, he tried to become a police officer.

      Several years later, one of my colleagues, who joined AC well after that kid had gone, mentioned that the two of them had been classmates in university. When I talked about the former’s law enforcement aspirations, my colleague rolled his eyes and groaned.

      By the way, a “dean’s vacation” is when a student is booted out for poor academic performance. That person isn’t allowed to re-apply for a few years until he or she smartens up or has done something to improve their preparation.

      During my time at Armpit College, I had a few DV students, some of whom eventually returned to university and finally earned their degrees.

    1. The City of San Francisco is unlikely to grow as it has been fully developed for around 100 years. It is surrounded by water except on the south where it is bordered by other cities.

      1. San Francisco grew strongly all through the 1990s and early 2000s. Up until a couple of years ago they build condos in large buildings there for rich code writers who worked for companies like Oracle. In late 2020 Oracle announced their move to Texas, joining Tesla, and countless others. Large conventions and other tourist traffic started abandoning San Francisco before the COVID because of swarms of homeless people colonizing the sidewalks of formerly swanky urban neighbourhoods. But hey, you are free to believe Left-wing city and state politics has nothing to do with it.

    So, the Nygard extradition hearing will be a long, drawn-out affair, with his money. Bu note from above, the two principals in the case — Peter Nygard and his lawyer Jay Prober — both contributed large amounts of money to the federal Liberals. And they both gave zero amounts to other federal parties.

    The question Is: should the federal Liberals give back the $20,000+ plus dollars back to these two?
