  1. “We need a complete overhaul of the rest of our mental health care system, so that we can help people before they are in crisis, rather than just picking up the pieces afterward,” the Police Benevolent Association said in a statement.

In other words, innocent people get hurt because liberals refuse to allow the involuntary commitment of dangerous lunatics to asylums BEFORE they harm someone, not after. The police are a convenient scapegoat, as always.

This, of course, is because most prominent liberals are psychopaths, the psychologist’s despair, and don’t want to give a patriotic government an excuse to toss them in the loony bin amd keep them there.

    1. (Santa)

In the USA. It was the courts along with the ACLU that allowed they loons to be let go. Yes the libs do enjoy this.

      1. And in Canada it was Trudeau Senior that arbitrarily decided to change the law so that mentally deranged people can not be held in an Institution.

    2. Well, yes, the police are called in where there should be mental health responders. However, the police are often called by the mental health people because their “clients” are out of control, unreasonable and dangerous. I’ve been told by police officers that 60% of their work are due to mental issues calls.

Yes, there are not enough mental health people and more would, theoretically, ease the police burden; but I can only see that if these mental health people are given police powers.

The mental health cases are on the streets and off their meds because the left and progressives, in the 1970s-1980s, campaigned to shut down the internment of people with mental health issues, arguing that they would be better off being in society. As it turned out, society is worse off for them being in it.

    1. Nothing says “banana dictatorship” quite like appointing your wife to a position like this. Don’t know if she’s qualified or not, but the rotten smell is hard to ignore…for relatively-normal people, at least.

      1. Marc…no kidding.

I had the exact same thought upon reading that…her qualifications are what exactly..?? SFA but a nose for free coin. Just another Scumbag trough feeding Democrat in the Biden mold.

        1. her qualifications are what exactly..?? SFA but a nose for free coin

That describes two ladies closely associated with a certain prime minister…..

  2. Just wait until a couple of these ‘social workers’ gets killed or grabbed or beaten …. what then? The marines?

  3. I’m thinking the pile of social workets bodies will number more than a 100 before they decide that this idea is stupid.

    1. Depends how committed they are. Or how unionised. They aren’t classified as emergency workers, I don’t think, so that can’t get waved at them as they say “this job/site is too dangerous for me to work at”.

      1. Awesome:
‘Sorry, bruh… “refusing to drop a weapon”…knife, gun, hammer… is literally the gold standard definition of when you can light some crazy fucker up.’

  4. “One in five New Yorkers struggle with a mental health condition,”

He should know, that’s his constituency.

  5. “One in five New Yorkers struggle with a mental health condition,” de Blasio said. “Now, more than ever, we must do everything we can to reach those people before crisis strikes.”

Twenty percent of New Yorkers are insane? Explains a lot. 😀 And yes, I know that a “mental health condition” doesn’t mean insanity, but I couldn’t resist. But the key point here is “before crisis strikes. Sorry, Cochise, but if they’ve called 911, they’re already in crisis. And how are the 911 operators supposed to know what constitutes a mental health call, and what’s a criminal one?

De Blasio said the social workers would be in charge on the scene and coordinate the effort, WCBS reported.

Um, really? Social workers gonna tell other people how to do their jobs? Hostage negotiation, as an example? Handling a real and public threat of violence? Maybe others can figure this out, but it’s beyond me to understand.

I know others have said it, but there’s just no way this ends well for anyone.

    1. ““One in five New Yorkers struggle with a mental health condition,” de Blasio said.”

      – By the sounds of it, one-in-five New Yorkers voted Trump. But wait for it – he may find next municipal election (if Dominion voting machines have been outlawed by then) that the problem may be a whole lot more serious – why, a majority of New Yorkers won’t vote for him! OH NOOOOOOOOOOES!!!

I mean, he’s driving people out of New York so fast that there may only be five voters left in the city by then…

  6. It wouldn’t surprise me if some social workers are a nutty as the people they are trying to counsel.

While I was an undergrad, I had a roommate one year who couldn’t quite make up his mind whether to be a teacher or a social worker. He eventually got degrees in both education and social work. The last I heard, he retired from being a high school counsellor a few years ago.

There were lots of times when I thought he was behind the 8-ball, believing that all people are “fundamentally good” and all they needed was love and hugs. Uh, no. There are some people who are genuine creeps and who’ll never change. They’re not necessarily criminals or psychopaths, but start looking for your wallet if you shake hands with them.

  7. Give them what they want.

When social workers and their checkboards realise that they are out of their depths, the might request some sort of defense training. Then someone will point out that a cop has defense training and should be sent for such calls.

Then we will be back to square one.

  8. Most mental health calls start out as 911 calls for a crime in progress. Why don’t they send social workers to respond to all calls? Alberta used to keep a couple nuthouses full to protect both the people and the nuts. 50 years ago, I used to wander downtown Edmonton at all hours without considering it risky. I never witnessed an assault on the streets. I never heard of random assaults on the streets. Different story today.

    1. I was reminded of that when I left for the Edmonton airport on Sunday. At the Century Park LRT station, there was a woman, presumably homeless, talking loudly to herself. (I assume it was to herself as I didn’t see her using anything resembling Bluetooth hardware.)

Fortunately, this was early in the morning when there was hardly anyone around.

Of course, it doesn’t help that Iveson, et. al., seem to encourage such people to wander free.

  9. It is becoming clear that the North America is health basket case.
Must be like 90% of the population are hypochondriacs ever so happy to see a doctor for a pin prick.
As if that was not enough, it appears that much of the population are mental.
Actually, read somewhere a long time ago that if a person does not have something wrong in the mental department they are not normal.
Now that the health care is paid by the government by yer taxes, the state can rule on what, who is important to get attention, cause the state got’s no money.
Canada spends gazillions of dollars and you can’t get attention if you are old, they seem to want to stretch it until you die to save money for the special people.
The government also reserves the right to dicktate (sic) how you live as though it is their, the bureaucrats, right to decide and it is because they hold the cash.

  10. As told to me by a person inside a police department in a Canadian city:
Even before the “defund” movement started, the social worker was called first. In 99.99% of the time, the social worker would defer it to the police to handle. Only if it were a convenient time and the perp was known to the social worker as 110% harmless would the social worker answer the call.
Thus, resources will be transferred to social services but police will still have to attend the call in 99.99% of the incidents. And, with less resources than before.

  11. I have known some therapists.
    Most were absolute whack jobs.
I don’t know if the field of psychology attracts self centered basket cases, or if it turns people into that, but the correlation is hard to ignore.

    1. Most were absolute whack jobs.

While I was teaching at Armpit College, I used the rent-a-counsellor service at one time. My “counsellor” was interested only in pushing Oprah Winfrey “hugs and feelings” twaddle, never really listening to me, let alone understanding my situation.

In the end, she blew her cork, calling me all sorts of names because I didn’t fall for that psychobabble. I think she needed counselling more than me.

In addition, I strongly suspected that the outfit was actually forwarding what I said back to Armpit College. I wasn’t completely surprised when I heard AC switched rental shrinks.

  12. This is to be expected. NYC simply continues on the same downward spiral as Detroit. In 1950, Detroit was the fifth largest city in the United States. Today it has a population less than 1/4 what it had half a century ago. Decades of systematic mismanagement ruined the city, turning its downtown into a wasteland and making one of its largest city departments that of leveling abandoned buildings.

NYC is now starting this spiral downward. It’s worse now because NYC has no economic reason to exist any more. It’s only a matter of time before it resembles this.

  13. You did not put this crap down when it started and now you are getting it up the arse, and by the way this is only the f ing early days. it is going to get much worse. Take it from an old guy who has watched it unfold.

  14. *
As a Toronto Cop friend of mine said this morning •
    “13 people shot this weekend.”

    Fortunately no one was carded.”

  15. Things used to be so clear on emergency responses: send in the rookie first. After all, they churn out new ones every day.

But what the hell is the protocol supposed to be now? Does the SW go in first?

  16. On the bright side, once violent mentally ill people start killing off the social workers, maybe society will improve for the better.

  17. It seems to be increasingly clear that what these lefties desire, from a group perspective, the group being, BLM, Antifa, Lbgtquerty, and democrats, what they want, is no police, no whitey rules, burn it all down, and have a reset. What will be left is a feudal society ruled by who ever is the strongest warlord. As most of these idiots are urban, it reminds me of ancient movies like “Escape from New York, and Escape from LA. Perhaps it is time to wall off these cities and let em run amok for a year or two, then go in with body bags and bulldozers, or perhaps better yet, use a small yield Thermo Nuclear Device, turn it to glass, and leave it as a monument to lefty stupidity!

  18. New York City survives only as long as Wall Street is located on Wall Street, when they realize there isn’t any benefit and a whackload of costs to be located in NYC, they’ll move to somewhere more conducive to their needs.

    1. The stock market is just data on a glorified server. All the data can be moved quite easily to another.
Okay, I’m not computer savvy but it would seem possible to do so.

  19. Given that cops are and have been completely useless in protecting people from the Black Looter Mob and Antifia I really could not care less if they get defunded.

  20. This is an eminently sensible change that will probably save lives, your reactionary scoffing notwithstanding.

      1. That’s just another one of your stupid Sun-news approved phrases you say whenever someone comes up with an idea that doesn’t stroke your dopamine secretion. You will be buried.

  21. People got it completely back asswards.

    Compare two scenarios:

    1. A BLMer with a history of stabbing other ghetto rats runs around naked with a knife. Cops are called in, shoot the BLmer and probably shoot some innocent ghetto rats. A riot burns down Wendy’s and half the hood.

    2. A BLMer with a history of stabbing other ghetto rats runs around naked with a knife. A SW (an SJW) gets dispatched to discuss matters with a BLMer. A SW gets stabbed multiple times. Cops are called in, shoot the BLmer and probably shoot some innocent ghetto rats. A riot burns down Wendy’s and half the hood.

So what is the difference between the two scenarios?

One dead SJW, or three fake votes for the dhimicrats in the next election.

    Where is the downside?
