    Reminds me of my grandfather in the Luftwaffe back in the day of WWII. He was in charge of some 200 troops being trained on the german version of radar. The SS goons decided to pay a visit and have him “certify that the 200 troops were ready for deployment” which of course they weren’t. Why did they need this idiotic report you ask? Because they needed a political good news report to pass up the chain of command in the dying days of 1944. Of course if he had certified the troops as ‘good to go’ when they weren’t he would have been shot. So he would rather have been shot for non-compliance than FILE A FALSE REPORT.

    He told the SS goons that he would not certify the troops were ready for deployment, because they weren’t. Meanwhile, behind the scenes they were organizing his demise by firing squad. Only as Divine Intervention would have it a heart attack intervened, most likely due to incredible psychological pressure, and thus earned a medical discharge in October of 1944 which ironically saved his life as the whole place went to hell in handcart anyway.

    My maternal grandfather hailed from FRANKENSTEIN in Schlesien a stones throw from then Festung Breslau which shortly afterward was visited by a military hurricane.

    The MEDIA doesn’t certify the results of the election. Since when is the MEDIA counting the ACTUAL LEGAL VOTES? The BOARD of ELECTORS in each state certifies the vote result and until they’ve filed their FINAL reports the a**wipes in the media can all take a flying leap without a parachute.

      My father joined the RCAF but had the “misfortune” to pass out second in his class, which meant he wasn’t going to be sent to England to join the fight. Instead, he ended up as a navigator instructor which – given his future career as a teacher – was definitely a case of the military accidentally putting a round peg in a round hole.

      Fast forward many years, and daughter and I took a trip across the prairies (cue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOM-TmZBzZo) and visited the Commonwealth Air Museum in Brandon. It was very interesting, particularly as daughter got to sit in a training plane similar to the ones her grandad would have flown in while instructing would-be navigators. We mentioned the family history and the comment was “they took the best for instructors”. Not that Dad would have agreed; he wanted to be in the fight.

    1. The shipment of coal from Roberts Bank is hardly what anyone would call a secret.You can see the train cars full of the stuff as you go to the ferry to Vancouver Island. We ship coal to China and anyone else who wants it, as it should be. Let them decide what they want to use as a source of power.

    2. More to Korea and Japan. China uses limits to trace elements to prevent air pollution to keep most Canadian coal out. I would estimate that under 10% of the throughput goes to China.

  19. At my house in B. C., I have some neighbours across the back alley who I know are nosey parkers.

    The wife has a reputation for filing all manner of complaints about things and, I suspect, she was responsible for ratting on me for parking my truck in the alley. (I can’t prove it, though.) Apparently, by leaving it there while I’m back in Edmonton is considered a violation of a local bylaw.

    Now, thanks to the anonymous “informer”, I have to go through a song and dance to park my truck in my back yard, lest I earn myself a fine.

    During my last trip, I had my canine step-brother over and, during our last afternoon together, we were outside in my back yard and playing “fetch”. This is the little guy’s all-time favourite activity and he get quite excited while doing it, loudly barking at the toy if I don’t pick it up fast enough for him and throw it.

    Both of those neighbours were outside at the time. She was out on her deck and I saw how she stood on her tiptoes to gawk at what was going on. Her husband wasn’t any better, standing in the back alley by his truck, mouth agape and staring in my direction. Yeah, I know: rude. I mean, couldn’t they have come to my fence and talked to me?

    Now I’m wondering if I’m going to be cited for violating a noisy dog bylaw. Never mind that he lived at the house for several years while my parents were still alive and many of the neighbours who knew them knew him as well, becoming a legend in that part of town.

    Unfortunately, this is what our current circumstances have done to our society. Me first, my comfort before yours, and I’ll report you if you don’t comply.

    1. Deplorable – sadly, there’s too many of these neighbours. A couple of our offsprings have had the misfortune to have such miserable critters living next door. One even had the gall to complain because son-in-law was cleaning off the sidewalk too early (said son-in-law was cleaning sidewalk before heading off to an – admittedly- early appointment but this was about 7 am). We are extremely fortunate in that all our neighbours are good buds.

      1. They moved to town about 2 years ago from–wait for it!–Vancouver.

        They seemed to be nice people when I first met them, but it appears that I was wrong. It’s bad enough that they’re sticking their noses where they shouldn’t, but that was my old neighbourhood. I grew up there and I’m the last of the people who moved there when that area opened up in the early 1960s. Back then, everyone knew what went on, but they also had the courtesy to mind their own business.
