Maybe the real answer is to ban the RCMP. We now have two separate incidents where people called the Mounties on Nova Scotia shooter Gabriel Wortman and told them about his violence against women and illegal stash of guns. Nothing was done.https://t.co/SJckj69HaW

But all is not lost. The “behavioral analysis unit” is performing a psychological autopsy on the gunman, that will include talking to people who knew him. Because science.

I’m encouraging ALL provinces to start to disengage from federal institutions unless there is a constitutional mandate to not do so. If Covid19 (along with this situation) has shown us anything is that the federal government DOES NOT have your best interests at heart. The performance of the Public Health Agency during this time was subpar at best. They were more concerned about how the federal government looked to the world than getting useful information to the public. They were super unprepared for this virus (or any virus) from information to ensuring actual PPEs were available. At the very least provincial governments need to ensure their own supply of PPEs
A provincial police force would be answering to the provincial government and to the people of NS. The RCMP will NEVER (no matter how many Memorandums of Understanding are signed) answer to the provincial government. Besides, let’s assume (I realize that is a big assumption) that the RCMP is a crack elite force – what they heck are they doing giving out traffic tickets?
Maureen, the OPP have not proven to be that responsive to it’s citizens during the “virus” lockdown, in fact down right hostile to the people they are supposed to be serving and protecting.
I agree, but I will always prefer dealing with a government that is closer to me. The chances of me running into Justin are remote, the chances of me running into the Premier are better and the chances of me running into my mayor or city Councillor are much better.
But at the same time, people need to vocally tell their politicians want they expect. I no longer send emails to my MP, MLA or city councillor – I write a letter and pay for the damn stamp! Emails are seen as just a bunch of spam, but a well composed letter sent by snail mail, I find, tends to get a response.
I have written Premiers, PMs , MLAs all to know avail, I might just as well have spit into the wind. I have been voting for a very long time and now I have just about had all I can take. George Carlin’s take on voting has come to reflect my attitude. There are now far too many stupid people to try and fix anything by voting. Canada as we know it is a walking corpse.
Maureen, I agree, very well said.
“I agree, but I will always prefer dealing with a government that is closer to me. ”
That’s the theory. in practice this stops somewhere at the level of province. Municipal governments tend to be more incompetent, petty, capricious and unaccountable then the provincial or federal ones. There is no spotlight at their abuses and no organized opposition. Powertripping Mayor can be worse than PM or Premier.
Maureen, read Christie Blatchford’s book “Helpless” to get an idea how useless the Ontario Political Police were to the citizens of Caledonia. They, under of course the Liberal Premier, McGuinty, fully supported the indigenous natives and abandoned even their own officers to the mob. Wouldn’t happen under Ford I firmly believe. Be careful of what you wish for, you may get it.
“The performance of the Public Health Agency during this time was subpar at best.”
Good point, however very much understated.
OWG…”psychological autopsy” is indeed, absolute B.S.
Maureen, you’re on the right path.
I especially agree that police must answer to province. If a province has voters too weak to ensure its leadership answers to citizens, so be it.
Elections have Consequences.
One way or the the other, the age of centralizing power in Ottawa will soon come to an end. Things that can not go on forever, won’t.
Nothing quite as valuable as a psychological autopsy.
Especially for the “experts” conducting same.
Given that large police forces such as RCMP and OPP are only interested in protecting their pensions and interests when does it dawn on you that only you are responsible for your own safety and giving up your right to protect yourself with whatever means are available such as guns is the practical alternative. Look like it is too late Sheeple
Lilley’s comment about banning RCMP is perfect.
Dudley Do Nothing … not even a cartoon hero
Of course nothing was done.
Governments rarely actually do anything to stop people well known to be dangerous lunatics (Adam Lanza comes to mind) before they succeed in harming a large number of people.
If governments gave police forces authority and resources to be proactive about taking dangerous lunatics off the streets before disaster strikes, they would have far less excuse to propose disarming decent people.
That, and the cops would have a golden opportunity to round up politicians and haul them off to the looney-bin, where they belong.
With few exceptions, our master class are sociopaths who by rights should not be suffered to live outside a closed institution under the constant surveillance they want for the rest of us. Curing them is impossible. They’re the psychiatrist’s despair.
They were too busy arresting women doing manicures and hair cuts out of their homes, or taking down a father and his 2 kids in a park or a Star Wars Trooper with a Plastic Toy gun in Lethbridge during a Federal Mandated Lockdown.
You know there are priorities here.
You are talking about now.
The reports about domestic violence came months and months ago.
The whole point of spending more effort investigating a crime where the perpetrator is dead is to salvage their tattered reputation for screwing up. They will likely spend years and millions of dollars trying to convict sideline characters of murder or manslaughter. They did it in the Jim Roszko case in Alberta. Two guys who gave him a ride to his mother’s house the night before were convicted of manslaughter and were sentenced to 15 years in jail and they got no early parole. That’ll teach them to give a buddy a ride home.
Precisely.
Also the Mounties up there let Roszko essentially terrorize the Mayerthorpe area. The young men were not the most upright of characters, but they didn’t deserve the sentences they got. If there’s one thing every resident knew at that time it was that you did what Roszko asked you to or else.
But taking care of him would be in the public’s best interest and that is not what the RCMP does.
The Port Arthur mass murder in Australia some years ago had a similar situation. The killer’s father was found shot and drowned with weights on his body. Tasmanian police ruled it a suicide. The woman he was giglioing told friends that he would sometimes grab the steering wheel from her while driving. She died in a traffic accident–head-on collision, for no apparent reason. No police inquiry. He inherited quite a bit of money from both.
Psychoanalyzing the dead is a very profitable business. It confirms the prejudices of the investigator in thinking they understand motivation. Let’s remember that Phrenology, Palmistry, Graphology and Psychics are still used by the Legal Establishment because they do that voodoo that they do so well.
The killer elites AKA the Micky Mouse police are a waste of money. On their cars they went from to serve and protect to law enforcement. It should be select law enforcement. The killers in BC will not persecute any government employ no matter how terrible the crime. These things are simply a waste if air.
So a psychic-autopsy, we’re paying for Nova Scotia to call the Long Island Medium. Nice.
I know, I know, it said psychological autopsy; which brand of witch-doctory will they be using. Will there be a Freudian and Spotnitz Modernist and the all important Ego Feminist rummaging around in a badly broken denturist’s facebook posts and toilet habits.
What is their bill rate? Nova Scotia is paying for bureaucrats to tell us that bat-sh1t crazy monsters walk among us and their broken and malignant thoughts are absolutely inexplicable. But, at the end of the 4 years of billing, I guarantee that the recommendation will be “guns bad”.
The RCMP are Paramilitaries. They will not ever listen to the Civilian Leadership of a Province other than grudging lip service. They report to Ottawa.
I agree with Maureen, and it is an old truth, the closer you are to your government, the easier it is to plant a boot up their ass. That is what the Alberta Firewall was all about.
This is one of the reason’s that taxes are so high in Canada. Because we have so many different overlapping programs by 3 levels of Government and they all are fighting over the taxpayers pocket.
The level of control of Canadians and Taxation is Criminal in and of itself. Fraser Institute did a paper showing that the Canadian Tax payer carries a burden of over 550,000 PAGES of laws and rules and regulations. That is a stack of paper over 14 stories High. Cue Beer Commercial, “I AM CANADIAN” That right there should tell you, you live in GD Prison. A Gulag. Your not a citizen you are a Fffing prisoner on a tax farm. A Tax Donkey.
Then we have the level of taxation, that takes more from the average Canadian family than what they are allowed to keep for the bare necessities of life. Food, Clothing and Housing.
Yah getting the Picture. Long past time for that tea party. Get Mad, Get Smart, and Get Out Alberta. Go UDI 50% plus 1 and Get The Hell Out of the Canadian Gulag….
Don’t expect Kenney to build an Alberta firewall. His heart isn’t in it. Remember – he came from the swamp. He is a federal swamp creature. He is an accidental Albertan.
Well said. Jason Do-little speaks and behaves like a federalist shill. He is a career politician. His Alberta “thing” is merely a temporary stint on the way to something grander for him.
People have ceded their freedoms to the state and its paramilitary apparatus.
It’s no use to complain about it now.
What we are seeing is nothing new and it will happen again and again with the same noise and melodrama as the last time.
It appears the RCMP and the Broward County, Florida, Sheriffs Department took the same training class… Chalk Outlines 101 and Advanced Paycheck and Retirement Targeting.
So everyone knows what’s going to happen… it happens… and then the only way “gubmint” can CYA is to take firearms away from peaceable citizens that had nothing to do with anything except dutifully paying their taxes that keep the incompetent bureaucrats employed.
L-This description of a violent psychopath intimidating witnesses. It mirrors what happened in Mayerthorpe, with the mass murderer there. He was well known for intimidating witnesses/victims to prevent them reporting/testifying against him. Given he had a previous conviction, the next one would have meant a federal sentence.
A local detachment constable had found a 16 year old youth, who had been sexually assaulted by Roszko, a known homosexual predator. He gained his confidence, promised that if he filed a report, that Roszko would be charged and tried. He also promised he would be there to support him through the whole court process.
Roszko complained to the RCMP detachment commanding officer, that because this RCMP Constable had charged him with a traffic offence in the past, that he was prejudiced against him. The C.O. removed this Constable from being involved in the case. Once the victim lost the one officer he trusted and saw that degree of influence Roszko had. He lost confidence in the administration of justice and refused to testify. Roszko, instead of going to the penitentiary got away, yet again. A criminal who deserved to be incarcerated and the public protected stayed free. His bullying, even of the RCMP, was reinforced.
While the policy and judgement of the RCMP Commissioner down to, in some cases C.O. can be critiqued for erosion by fed. political correctness run amok. Political interference with a police force that, at one time, was independent and answered only to Parliament. It was changed, whereby the Commissioner now reports to a fed. cabinet minister and in effect,a deputy-minister, and in effect, the P.M.O. .
That power and status of Parliament is designed to be a check and balance on the executive. Former Assist. Commissioner Robert Head wrote a paper critiquing the politicalization of the RCMP, a couple of decades ago.
Additionally, the violation of the Right of citizens to practical self-defence has rendered them highly vulnerable to intimidation by violent criminals and organized/semi-organized crime. This is a violation of the Common-Law Rights/Responsibilities of free citizens. It is a major factor in the rising status and proliferation of serious crime and gangs in Canada.
This political corruption, from both political parties(all of them) and the judiciary has brought the administration of justice into disrepute. If you speak to former police officers and victims of crime, they make this crystal clear.
Canada, when governed under the original principles of Common-Law Rights and Responsibilities was a much safer place with functional institutions and a mode of a society based on trust. Our duty, is to make is so, again!
When the criminals are your Clients and the taxpayer just cranky impositions, future clients at best and then only a tiny percentage, who do you think will get priority service?
Just like High River,we will get the long silence treatment, unless there are a couple of aquaintences of Killer who are not RCMP connected, who can get the Maythorpe Treatment.
Who supplied the Uniform?
Who ran cover for his unprovoked assault on the teenager?
Who ignored the report of weapons including pistols?
Same guys who will deny any such report being made?
Funny how things turn out.
Any bets the gunman was the local narc, police informant?
Whole thing smacks of a police loving nutcase, who had lots of police friends and family..
So nothing to see here move along..
Also all legal gunowners are dangerous, their tools shall be banned..cause murder is a crime?
The ignorance and projection of Liberal Style A Holes is impossible to parody.
Liberal Style..Assault style..Spin cycle?
That’s the way to say it. No fabrication here folks.

“we will get the long silence treatment”
they won’t even definitively say that he didn’t have an RPAL…
because if they do, curious minds will ask for the rest of
gabriel wortman’s CPIC entry.
the real question is, will we let them get away with it?

As an experienced armchair psychologist, I’m going to say it was a classic narcissist rampage driven by pure rage. I’ll bet his house was fastidiously neat with every little thing in it’s place. Control – they gotta have it.
If the police get the power to take dangerous psychopaths off the street, they will use it on everybody. Life is terminal. I’d rather risk the odd psychopath than give the police that much power. I would rather risk the odd mass shooting than live in a state where only the police are armed. This is a case of the cure being worse than the disease.
big upvote. You are correct as the reaction to a virus has proven.
Rusty, Your take, unfortunately, is correct! We are way past the point of no return, we have ceded our rights and democracy to power hungry political control freaks! When an ignorant, inept, idiotic politician such as the current prima donna first minister, can get re elected by a fawning, ignorant, stupid, populace, we are lost as a democracy, and as a democratic society! Time to consider a trip to the US border and claim political asylum. Yeah, I know things are not much better there, but where else can anyone go? Head East? We end up in the UK, Europe, middle East, or Africa! Head far South? We end up in Mexico, or Cuba, or Venezuela! Head West? We end up in China, or Islamic controlled Island nations! Even OZ or NZ are just as bad! It would appear the decline of the West is gaining speed. We are in fact, TRULY SCREWED!
That Wortman, was he a patsy? These patsy incidents have happened in the past. You see how fast Trudeau jumped on the bandwagon? Traitors!
Maureen and others touch on one of the weak links of our civic structures.
We need to invert the tax structure so that it works for us and focusses taxpayer attention on those we entrust with the duty of performing the public theatre we call civilization.
If we pay a tax,at a flat rate to the nearest local authority,we will then become very concerned about who holds local power.
So a better class of citizen will rise through the levels, maybe.
But If we pay ,say, 10% Locally and they pay 10% of that Provincially and the Province pays 10% to the feds, the opportunities to steal are reduced.
Invert the system,collapse the Kleptocracy?
And the ability to bribe and corrupt lower levels of government using stolen taxpayer dollars is almost eliminated.
Policing and local military become local costs and the endless theft is under control.
Right now, energy spent on local council is wasted. No matter how ethical the members might be all the incentives are toward corruption and they have no power nor support to say no.
So easy to surrender to being bribed with other peoples money and impossible to demonstrate that it is theft,as the money moves through so many hands..
Recall the endless justifications of Equalization.
All that money that flows from Alberta to Ottawa is not Albertans wealth..according to the defenders of this theft.
Reverse the flow and the parasites starve.
When local power becomes important, the fools get booted.
