RIP Lyle Waggoner.

As a side note, I’ve been trying to work with my left arm in a sling (probably just a severely strained muscle), but typing is a bit awkward and posting frequency may slow as a result. Tips thread is open.

  1. Another memory of my past is gone. I’m getting old…. Thanks for all the entertaining moments, sir.

    And now for something completely different. As I’m typing this, Venus is bright about halfway up in the western sky.

    1. I was told once it was the ISS.
      I knew from when I was a kid things in low orbit don’t appear to stand still.
      I did however have to look up what the bright spot was.

  2. Congratulations to all the preppers for being prepared for this Wuhan flu.You were right just about everyone else was wrong.However I will predict by June the hoopla will be over.

    1. I did my best. A lot of friends ignored me, and I’m actually struggling with some guilt that I wasn’t more adamant. Then again my arm hurts like hell, and that doesn’t help my mood either.

            They were giving that (or something akin to it: “Hydromorph”), to me in the hospital here just recently…weird stuff, but it did help me sleep in those absolutely Awful beds.

            RIP Lyle…you were one of the Greats.That show was also one of the Very best..!!

          3. Then don’t type with your left. Rest your arm (sling it as you state) find a comfy position for the arm and get it looked at ASAP. Any pain killer is just delaying what might be more serious than you think.
            I learned to go left (I’m a righty), while my right arm was in a zipper cast and instructed to “don’t move it more than necessary”. Did it for 6 months until I regained incremental use of my right. Even my sleeping position had to be adaptive. Took 5 years to regain about 85% of the arm. I still type on the computer with my left….9 years later. Doing it now, while I munch an apple with my right. It’s not that slow.

      2. Kate, thanks for all your caronavirus posts. The fact that you have been a canary in the coal mine puts the establishment media cartel to shame. Please rest your arm, and get plenty of rest. A doctor’s office is no place to be these days.

      3. I have 4 employees in my business.
        I went into detail about limiting contact for the next few weeks.
        March 8-9 weekend one of them screwed up and met a casual friend who just returned from an overseas trip. No 2 week self isolation observed. By Thursday he left work sick.
        He has the flu. The casual friend has been instructed by doctors to self quarantine for 2 weeks and wait for test results to come back.
        I’ve told him he can’t return until he is medically cleared. Likely going to lay everyone off and close for an indeterminate time.
        One thing that I’ve learned is that we are only as smart/prepared as the stupidest/complacent person in our circles of associates and friends.
        And their circle of friends…….

  4. When we only had two channels, Lyle Waggoner, Tim Conway (a comical genius), Vicky Lawrence and Carol Burnett were a treat to look forward to. Just like This Hour has 22 Minutes but funny. He was 6′ 4″ and Harvey Korman was 6′ 3″. I guess Carol liked tall guys, and Tim Conway.

    This is a nice short graphic summary of previous market crashes like 1929.
    Most people say 1929 as if it was a one year deal.
    Actually market topped in Sept of 1929 and crash started in Oct 1929.
    And the whole mess did not bottom out until JUNE OF 1932.

    So if this event turns out as dramatic as 1929, we could be looking at a run lower for maybe 2 years or out to 2022.
    Ouch.

    1. People were twitched the first few days after Black Monday ’87 as the Dow was still shuddering. Once it stabilized, I recall that it stayed within a small range for a while.

      About a year later, confidence in the market had returned.

        Zero interest rates.
        Govts are already in big time debt.
        Can still print funny munney but that will lead to more complications further down the line to the next generations.
        The space between the rock and hard place is getting smaller.

        1. Things weren’t a lot different back then, either. Mulruin was PM (with that bonehead Michael Wilson as Finance Minister) and the Cold War was still in progress. The Soviet Union still existed and our newly-introduced loonie was openly called the Hudson’s Bay peso, and for good reason.

          I’m concerned, but I’m not worried. I survived Black Monday. I survived the wonky market during the Third World debt flap. I lived through the late 1990s. I shrugged off what happened in 2008, having gone through the aforementioned situations.

          We will survive. I don’t know when it’ll be over and how that’ll happen.

  7. I know about sore arms.
    My sore arm chuckle story.
    Hauled grain to elevator one morning with my 2 guys, 5 and 7.
    While emptying, I performed an unscheduled material test of my arm.
    I slipped off the running board and found out that my forearm would not take the full weight of my 230 lbs (no fat in those days) on it and it snapped 2 inches above my wrist.
    By the time I arranged for looking after my kids and the drive to the hospital it was an hour or so.
    Went to the office to register.
    Sweet young thing finally came in and brought out the book work.
    After slowly and meticulously filling it all out, she closed the book and looked at me and asked ‘Why are you here?”
    I said i broke my arm.
    She got a smile on her face and asked “What makes you think you broke your arm?’
    You see the whole time my arm was on my leg under the desk and i carried on the whole conversation as normal.
    No tears, whining, sniveling, or asking for pills, or any other emotion.
    So I held up my grotesque arm in her face and asked ‘What do you think?’
    My hand was twice the normal size, tilted at a 45 degree angle and a very nice black, blue and other colors too.
    She jumped up and ran out of the office with her hand over her mouth.
    I always joked that she probably ran out to throw up her dinner since this was just after dinner.
    My wife, the nurse, always told me that i have an insanely high pain tolerance level.
    I think she could be right.

  11. Climate Change and tRUDEau’s (plus LIEberal/National Dictator Party (NDP)/Green Party) Carbon Tax

    Ok, this is where the LIEberal and Climate Changers want Canada to be on a permanent bases, should do readings today and at the end of this C-19 Virus. (If there is no reductions in carbon output then something is wrong with their measuring equipment)

    With the economy slowed right down and public places are closing doors, there should be great reductions in our “carbon” footprint. No flights, no border crossings … except for illegal immigrants INTO Canada … and knowing the LIEberal government will soon impose no-inter-city travel – we should NOT be paying the tRUDEau Carbon Tax.

    At the present, I see this as a social experiment … to see how far they can control Canadian citizens.

        Canadian voters slept through the first wake-up call last October. What makes you so sure they’ll do anything now? Like I’ve often said here, they won’t take action unless they’re deprived of the NHL playoffs on TV, their access to TimBits, and cheap beer. So far, none of those three things has happened.

  12. True North website reports on how the Mounties are welcoming migrants walking over the border. They must self isolate themselves once they arrive. Who is paying for that? And True North reports that deportations will halt.

      And, I’m sure that there were Canadians foolish enough to actually believe him…. For heaven’s sake, people, the man’s a former drama teacher!           3. Who the heck is coming across there and why? It has been a lot of Nigerians who would fly into the States and make their way from the airport to Roxham. But surely plane loads from Nigeria have stopped flying into the States. So could Americans without health care now be streaming through. Who? So when Keean tries to investigate, he is prevented by the police– who supposedly are not directed by the politicians, or so Trudeau recently claimed when people were worried about the blockades.     Al Worden was the Apollo 15 Command Module pilot. While Dave Scott and Jim Irwin were on the moon at Hadley Rille, Worden was busy making observations of various topographical features, making valuable contributions to lunar science.

    Later, during the return trip, he conducted an EVA to recover film canisters from the Service Module. What made that unique was that he could see the Earth in one direction and the moon in the other. I remember watching that live on TV.

    It’s hard to decide who had the better job during that mission.

    1. Canada signed the UN Migration Pact. This was done with little public awareness. It was kept out of the news. No public discussion, and a very brief discussion in a Parliamentary Committee, very shortly before it was signed. Many countries chose not to sign this,including the US, as they felt it infringed on their sovereign right to make their own decisions regarding immigration. Another example if the Trudeau Liberals moving the country toward implementing the globalist agenda while Canadians are kept in the dark.

    Pain is the only way we learn..sometimes.
    I was joking about cranking the panic up to 11,cause the northern migration of all the waterfowl begins about now.
    These viruses are carried and cross bred between species,so even remote areas may be infected without human help.
    However with public hysteria running at “End times” level,we cannot sustain this hysteria for much longer.

    What do we know?
    That near 90% of cases go undetected,with those infected suffering little or no symptoms?
    That 10% manifest fever ,coughing and congestion?
    And 3 to 5% of those get very sick literally drowning in their own lungs?
    If those numbers are close to true,this flu has been spreading rapidly well before the Wuhan Crisis.
    And the mortality rate is 1/10 of that currently estimated.

    I find myself siding with the “Spring Break” partiers.
    Meh.
    Now if it is a full scale pandemic,where civilization breaks, our response is going to become gallows humour very rapidly .
    Because Dread is as dangerous as hysteria.
    Life is going to kill us all.
    How it does that is the only uncertainty.
    Hell to have made it this far,with the idiocy I used to practise, every day is a extra blessing.
    So to base our existence around fear of contamination, is to plan a joyless life.
    Must we fear life so much,that we would plan to live it as miserably as possible?

    I am off to google George Carlin on the immune system.
    George would be killing himself laughing at the current terror.
