Really, it’s just the flu. Better than the flu, even.
Data from case series of #coronavirus so far consistently show that age distribution of more severe disease skews younger than influenza with clustering around the 20-40 age cohort. Update: Health authorities in China’s Hubei province – the epicentre of the coronavirus epidemic – reported on Thursday 14,840 new confirmed cases, almost 10 times the number reported a day earlier, and new deaths attributable to the contagion rose to 242, more than double on the day. This brings the totals announced by the province’s health commission to 48,206 and 1,310, respectively, as of Wednesday.

Yes, it’s another strain of the flu but augment it with a diet of bats, dogs, cats, poor selection of produce, compressed living, extremely bad air quality, lack of hygiene, as we know it, sanitation, and education. let’s also remember, we have all these things and flu season still takes a good toll.
You forgot 65% + of the population being smokers.

were phukk do you git this crap from. I was in China in December 2019,,and saw a very modern and clean society. People like you need to learn to keep your ignorant horn shut about things you know sweet fukk all about . Now if you were talking about wopitali, you would have point, and it is considered a first world nation
and yet…China is almost always ground zero

Did you see any of that?
China recycles everything. Including your leftover soup. Never order the soup.
my former inlaws were chirese.
suffice to say when *they* caution against certain, ummm, ‘cuisine’ choices it carries a lot of weight.
Ugh.

This is the guy who didn’t even know that the western world was shipping all of it’s recycle plastics to China for the last decade+ while claiming to be collecting Canadian people’s plastic garbage for recycling. 700,000 tons of plastic per year from the U.S. alone.
Claims that he’s actually been to China? Get Outa Town Garbage Man. Your LIES are so transparent.
Sure. Gutter oil is a myth too? A Potemkin village ain’t everything.
Ok boomer…. wait, what age did you say it affects more severely?
It’s not fair!

Blah blah blah. yawn.
Still only 2 deaths outside of China.
Stock market has obviously priced in risk and it’s crashed right? No wait…
You ought to head over to Wuhan So what. I might even spring for the airfare.
Dead Chink Chicoms – need 1,500,000,000 more or so and we’re good
Be better than this.
Hey morons, these people have respiratory systems that are completely compromised by constant exposure to intense air pollution as well as a population with 70% smoking rates. Their lungs are already 50% f*cked.
Add to that a population that sneezes, coughs, hacks and gobs their sputum into the air releasing trillions of viruses with every breath that totally overwhelms delicate lung tissues.
And a population that still refuses to wash their hands after taking a shit and then goes on to handle food that is half rotten and already compromised with cellular tissue expose to viruses.
Their immune systems are a mess.
Compare that with those outside of China. 2 deaths and a vast majority of cases that are just a case of the sniffles or a bit of flu.
Learn to evaluate risk and guard against emotional responses.
Look at how markets represent a cumulative measure of risk and see that this does not represent in any way a threat to the economy,
Time will prove me right.
Just you watch.
Jeesus Christ you people are stupid.
Hey moron, if it is so obvious maybe you could explain why such breakouts do not occur regularly in China?
Actually they’ve had many breakouts. Swine flu, bird flu, sars, etc.
Nothing with a response on comparable scale.
Do you believe any official line coming out of China? I don’t. They will hide anything that they think makes the communist party look bad. I would venture that there are constant breakouts and we hear nothing.

Good point! People are not perceiving a terrible risk for future NYSE profits.
About the post:
I think the majority of cases might be 20-40 years old due to they being active people, and they are a large subpopulation in China. But once elderly people (and smoking old men) happen get this disease, they are very prone to die.
I watched a video this morning of hospital staff, putting three dead children in a single body bag. How bad could it be if you’re running out of body bags?
One body bag probably only equals one official death.
Okay, remember an ex-pat Englishman (can’t, sadly, remember his name) who wrote memorably of his growing up very poor in England and how his life was turned around by being evacuated from London during WW II and being housed with a family who really encouraged him. One remembrance of his has stayed with me: a younger brother or sister had died as an infant and the family could not afford a funeral so the undertaker slipped the young’un into someone else’s coffin so he/she could be properly buried.
Let me guess. It’s promiscuity rather than immune system?
Johns Hopkins assures us that the number of cases is stabilizing. In other words, word has come down from Beijing to stop reporting cases inside China, on pain of re-education or being used as spare parts.
Never, ever, EVER take what the Chinese say at face value.

Just released: Nearly 15,000 new cases!
Hey So What, eat a Covid19 dick sandwich.
60,081 cases.
1361 firewood.
5905 recovered.
15 minutes ago it was at 45000.
Surge in number of cases due in most part to the adoption of a new diagnosis classification.
In conformity with other provinces, starting today, Hubei Province will include the number of clinically diagnosed cases into the number of confirmed cases.
Of the 14,840 cases added, 13,332 are due to the new classification while 1,508 are new cases.
Believe me, I’d like to see the numbers go down. As much as a cull is needed, all the wrong people will bite the dust. I guess I’m pretty dumb, but as for a new classification…either you’re infected or you’re not. If you could provide an explanatory link, that would be swell.
Not saying it’s improving. Try the NY Times.
“Until now, only infections confirmed by specialized testing kits were considered accurate. But those kits have been in such short supply — and so many sick people have gone untested — that the authorities in Hubei Province have started counting patients whose illness have been screened and identified by doctors.”
Thx!
That is provided that the numbers Chicoms release are not random. No sane person believes that Chicoms would not suppress true numbers if that was convenient at the time.
When have you EVER seen such EXTREME measures taken by any government (totalitarian or otherwise) to “contain” an outbreak? I’ve never seen any such measures taken by ANY government. And what governments have giant antibacterial spray trucks ready to deploy? I’ve never seen nor heard of such thing in America.
So, yeah … simply judging by the response … this is a SERIOUS damn outbreak.
But I have to admit a little admiration of the Chinese government for taking such drastic measures to contain this incurable strain of influenza within their borders and within a limited number of cities. And yes … human beings are not designed to live in hives like these insanely DENSELY packed Chinese cities. The risk of human-hive collapse is greater than any honeybee ever suffered from “global warming”. Behold the urbanization-model demanded by the Green New Deal. A hive of humans packed one upon another in the most unhealthy density imaginable.
All you SDA’ers living out in the open Prairies are the lucky ones. Even if your incomes are less than your Urban Toronto counterparts. You enjoy the richness of a clean, sparsely populated earth. More valuable than plastic Canadian dollars.
yes Kenji, population density certainly is a factor, the village I was in , only had 15 million inhabitants, and you were always close to “others”, but they were very modern settings, and their hi-rises and shopping malls could be any were in the western world. When I show friends pictures from over there they are amazed at how modern it is. But still, 15 million is a lot, in a confined existence.
Wuhan syndrome, if it impacts north America in earnest, will kill off a LOT more urban Democrats and Liberals than SDA readers Better them than any here.
I am rather looking forward to seeing well-organized, armed militias block interstate off-ramps, forcing all but local traffic to move on towards the next urban mass grave until President Trump declares Wuhan syndrome contained.
“When have you EVER seen such EXTREME measures taken”…..never…not for the bird flu…pig flu….nothing ever
My fear is Mexico….they would have no way to contain it…no way to treat it….we have an open border….and if it gets into Mexico…literally millions of people will try to leave and come here
Mexico City, Santo Domingo, Port-au-Prince, Kingston, Sao Paulo, Lima, Bogota, Caracas, Rio, … all of India. We are seeing the tip of the iceberg.
Don’t forget San Francisco.
Indeed. All the tent cities filled with human waste will be decimated. Better to cordon them off now. One can never be too sure.
You’re exactly right. Thank you, President Trump for getting a good start on the GREAT Mexican flu outbreak defense WALL.
“So, yeah … simply judging by the response … this is a SERIOUS damn outbreak.”
Exactly. Numbers are bullshit 15K new cases today are not new cases, it just a number that Chicoms released because too many people were probably inquiring about the fate of their loved ones. All the responses: Massive quarantine (probably eclipsing by order of magnitude any past quarantine anywhere, ever. Record building of so called hospitals (prisons for infected centers). Trucks spraying the disinfectant around the cities tell us that much more is happening than the official numbers are suggesting.
Also telling is the death to recovery ratio. It was about 1 to 3 a week ago, up to about 1 to 5 yesterday and down to about 1 to 4 today. Things did not change like that, they are pulling the numbers out of their asses.
EXACTLY Kenji…exactly.
this is no flu people, you are lookin at a virulent bug that Kills.
And if you actually believe the offcial numbers…Might I suggest a Suppository.
Given that somewhere around 200-250 MILLION are in LOCKDOWN…Hmmm.?? How many cities of 10-20 MIllion hmmm..??
Think about that.
No one on the streets allowed.
Think about that
Business completely SHUT DOWN
Think about that
No FOOD available be it street or in a store – All shut down
Think about that
Rocket Booster Spray units apply Lysol throughout the land
Think about that
Built a 2000+ Bed Hosp in 9 days
Think about that
The ChiComms have commandeered Concert halls and Convention Centres to use as Detainment Centres (Quarantine)
Think about that
….How many got infected only to die at home or in a Quarantine Centre – UNREPORTED…??
Given the UNPRECEDENTED Effort to combat this..??
It has to be (IMO), a BIO Weapon – Released how/why….?? No one knows….YET. Keep in mind MAO suggested losing some 50Million of his countryman…??
As such the numbers of only 1100 died is to me, complete and utter RUBBISH. Lets try 50-60,000 instead k..?? This kind of info, the Chinese will kill to suppress in order to save their own skins and they are now doing exactly that.

From CGTN the chinese equivalent of Voice of America:
@CGTNOfficial
China’s #Hubei Province, the epicenter of novel #coronavirus, reported 242 new deaths, and, under new standard, 14,840 confirmed new cases on Feb. 12. Full details:
– 48,206 confirmed cases (incl. 13,332 clinical cases)
– 1,310 dead
– 3,441 recovered
– 33,693 under treatment
South China Morning Post agrees with your numbers. CNN and other American/European news agencies are several days behind on these stories.

One American citizen has died of it in Wuhan. No info at all on that person; we don’t know if they were racially Chinese or not.

From the national post:
“An American hospitalized in the provincial capital Wuhan, where the outbreak began, became the first confirmed non-Chinese victim. The Washington Post identified him as Hong Ling, a 53-year old geneticist who studied rare diseases at Berkeley.”
Probably ethnic Chinese…
2.7% mortality rate puts it at the same level as the Spanish flu in 1918.
I read somewhere that the mortality rate from the annual flu viruses is around .4%
It’s prolly nothing.
Since Dec 17 let’s have the numbers of viral pneumonia and deaths without diagnoses and also factor in suicides.
I’m also curious about the number of Chinese people that have “disappeared” over the last month
Chart that against the previous 2 years for the mean.
Its getting to be the CCP version of “living in interesting times” post Chinese New Year isn’t it???

Suprisingly interesting.

If you look at the results of the 1918 Spanish Flu, it hit young children the hardest. I wrote a story about the pandemic many years ago. It was interesting to note that one region in SW Sask was almost completely free of the flu. The health authorities never really knew why. When I researched the records, I found out that the particular region made a high quality 100% alcohol liquor utilizing potatoes for the mash, much like Russian vodka. They also consumed a lot of garlic. Who knows??
On a different note. I was raised in the 50’s and 60’s. When my brother and I refused to eat something, my mother would say, ”Millions of Chinese kids are going to bed hungry every night, and you guys are wasting your food.” My brother would reply, ”Oh yeah, name three!” That’s what came to mind when I saw that 14,840 new cases were allegedly diagnosed in one day. I believe it would take considerably more than a day to arrive at the conclusion that they all had coronavirus
Had occasion, many years ago, to see the “linen” on which was recorded the names of those who died at Anyox during the Spanish flu. Anyox was a mine up the northwest coast of British Columbia (actually in an inlet just east of the Alaska Panhandle), and was rather isolated. Yet the flu found them; the dead were almost unformly between the ages of 20 and 40, and I remember a nurse was among the victims.
When the Spanish flu went through the Prairies, my mother was a youngster living on the family farm in southeastern Manitoba. Their response was, I suspect, typical of the farmers in the neighbourhood: the family stayed on the farm and self-isolated while Grandad – who had to go into the nearest town for supplies – did a second self-isolation and stayed in the barn. Supplies were passed across to the house with minimal contact. Not until the epidemic was over did Grandad move back into the house. The flu didn’t hit that homestead.
I wunders how many were protesters
The good news for the US is that the official quarantines seem to be helping control the spread. Only 14 cases, and twelve of them are people coming from Wuhan and China.
Let’s pray the good news for the US continues.
The world is going to end in 90 days. Not enough time to move to another planet.
I’m pretty sure it’s 12 years.
So, it targets people of military service age?
OTOH, kinda looks like the ‘news cycle’ ran out on this one . . . . . .
