There is a difference between dependence and addiction. His daughter states this is dependence. Anyone, literally 100% of the population will form a dependence on Benzos if taken for long enough and they are horrific to come off of for everyone. There is a very big difference between addiction and dependence. This article blatantly conflates the two even though the video they posted from his daughter clearly states he developed dependence. As a medical professional I can tell you that Doctors must take more responsibility to ensure that dependency is not formed to benzos. That is different from addiction. Dependence on benzodiazepines can kill anyone. Addiction forms in a smaller portion of the population and generally extends to other drugs and activities to experience the effects of drugs/addictive behaviors. Try to respond with empathy, likelihood is you know someone who has formed dependence on substances and struggled to get off them. This man’s story is compelling. His wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer and formed a deeper dependence to manage the devastating consequences. Regardless of whether you agree with his views this is an all too common story.
And of course leftists are celebrating his state of health in the comment sections of the Unifor newspapers. Canadian leftists are such kind people. I notice his book is still on the best selling lists in Canada and the United States. Not that you would hear that mentioned in the Unifor media. They are still obsessed with Margaret Atwood.

Absolutely disgusting remarks by Attaran. Ezra went after him years ago when Attaran was attempting to exploit the Afghan detainee issue. There was a feature about Attaran on Sun TV. Not such a nice fellow. There were a couple if unsavoury things in his background. Maybe Ezra can find that footage and run it again. I think Attaran is still at Ottawa U. He is a mean spirited blow hard and deserves to be taken down.

I desperately miss reading and hearing Jordan’s wisdom and highly intellectual takes on the human condition. I have few mentors anymore in my life … and consider Jordan one of the few. I pray for Jordan and his entire family. For health, wellness, rest, and recovery. May Jordan live long and return to share his needed perspective on life.
That was a very moving account. I too am praying for Jordan Peterson. He is such an important voice. No person with an ounce of humanity would derive satisfaction from his unfortunate health issues. That those who do are leftists tells you something about the sick mentality that promotes leftist ideology.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I am heartened by the fact that the overwhelming reaction by his followers has been highly supportive.
A Russian drug rehab facility brings to mind images of being hand cuffed to an iron bed frame!
So many of my friends and family suffer from depression and anxiety. I strongly hope Dr. Peterson has got the help he needed and will pull out of this a stronger man and continue to be a light in the darkness.
so those in here who wank off about WEED , should learn something here, this is one of the real drug problems. And NO it’s not dependency, it’s addiction plain and simple. I’v known quite a few addicted to uppers, Valium!

I wish Dr. Peterson a speedy recovery. And I agree with my physician colleague’s assessment of benzos. While I had a lot of patients from other practices which had closed who came to me as chronic users I only very rarely prescribed them de novo and then only for very short periods of time and only as part of a comprehensive program of psychological or psychiatric support due to exactly the sort of problem Jordan Peterson seems to have gotten into. Benzos don’t fix anything other then some very specific ones used for management of seizure disorders; they merely paint over rust and they are extremely difficult to withdraw from with potential dangers in the process following chronic use.
What we all should be concerned with is the fact Attaran is a professor, in a university, in Canada. He’s welcome to his opinion but this enters into another realm not befitting a person who possesses human decency. It’s sad.

Jordan and his family have been going through an unimaginably difficult train of tragic circumstances. I hope they get through it all. I also hope he just sticks to pod casts for a while instead of travelling the world. I can’t imagine how he did all that over the last couple of years. As for those who hate him….they are resentful, weak, putrid people who only show how right he is when holding forth on such putrid lefty socialist maggots.

I expect his friend, Dr. Norman Doidge, (authour of “The Brain That Changes Itself” and “The Brain That Heals Itself” and who wrote the prologue to Prof. Peterson’s “12 Rules for Life: an antidote to chaos”) will play a role in his recovery.
In the meantime, Prof. Jordan Peterson’s lectures, public speaking events and interviews, may assist each of us developing increased capacity and resilience to face down the political and social chaos. Having family or social group discussions, around 12 Rules for Life, would work, too.
For the 21st Century, make Canada great again, one rescued from the chaos by men and women of uncommon valour !

I had a very good Dr. who was careful to not prescribe meds unless absolutely necessary. I used lorazepam on an as needed basis and things worked just fine. I knew there was a risk of dependency/ addiction and I usually had 12 pills for a 90 day period. Only on a couple occasions did I use them on consecutive days. I am now free of them.
