As we look forward, we officially usher in the Year of Hind Sight.
Don’t forget that we now have about 10 years left for the predictions of Greta and AOC to come true.

Aye– at last Happy 2020 MT!
It would be nice if the sun was more active. I checked some of the ham bands several hours ago. Dead as a doornail as I didn’t hear any Morse code traffic.
Thanks for the posting – tears are coursing down my face from laughter! Gives new meaning to the phrase “Downward Dog”!
I’ll never watch the movie The Goonies in the same way again after knowing that about him.
The archbishop of Canterbury is to suggest to British Remoaners that the new year would be a golden opportunity to call or text their patriotic relatives and neighbours and apologize for calling them racists and fascists for three solid years.
May I suggest patriots faced with Remoaner acquaintances coming forward with mealy-mouthed apologies insist on a written, signed retraction of their slanders against the intelligence and decency of patriotic Britons, and permission to post the retraction prominently on social media, if they are serious about resuming any kind of relationship—and make clear that this alone will not suffice to completely mend fences.
As I mentioned in a thread yesterday, Prinz Dummkopf is in exile because he displeased his handlers by failing to get a second majority Liberal government.
Oh, he got a majority, all right, but with the help of the Dippers and the Bloc. That means the Liberals have to be nice to them once in a while. A one-party majority would have meant that they could do whatever they like and chuck whoever they wanted under the bus.
He’s been put on the shelf in a place where he can do no conceivable harm. Unfortunately, who’s been left in charge here is no improvement for the proles, but is more satisfactory to the masters.
2020 is going to be weird, indeed.
Does Costa Rica have an extradition treaty with Canada?
Maybe Trudeau is avoiding the Mounties?
I know I’m dreaming, oops sorry, fantasizing.
If I’m not mistaken, CR abolished its military some 30 years ago.
Thank you! OK, I admit it. This “new decade” stuff being spouted all over the web is driving me nuts.Didn’t anybody go to school? Can’t people count to 10?
Thanks Alvaro.
Technically we are now in the 10th year of the decade, but as xkcd points out, people can’t see it that way. So I’ll add that an ounce of gold weighs more than an ounce of feathers and that a pound of gold weighs less than a pound of feathers.
God Bless President Trump and his Family. And God Bless America.
we are having a fairly mild Christmas and I will not complain about it. Happy New Year for all that sentiment is worth. Happy carbon tax increases to all, gas went up 16 cents a liter here, that’s 72 cents a gallon for anyone with even a tiny brain. How do like them liberals now? Just keep adding up the costs until you are broke and starving.
And the government expects us to go broke and starve joyously, even begging to do so, as we build the new Soviet–I mean, post-national–state.
Deputy Prime Minister reminds everyone in his New Year’s message that his two top priorities will be global warming scams and giving more stuff to indians. Happy New Year from rural Ontario, where people still like to work for a living.
Thanks Kate for posting Rod Stewart doing my favourite version of Auld Lang Syne!

OK. it’s Alex Jones and all that, but a snip from his site is either a tip, a prediction, or a Soros dream looking to happen.
“New York UN Office Recruits Paramilitary Troops for ‘Disarmament’ & ‘Reintegration’ of US Civilians
The United Nations is now accepting job applications in New York City, New York for Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration officers to “contribute to security and stability in post-conflict environments.”
The job listing was posted to the U.N. careers homepage on Dec. 26, and notes that “female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for this position” because “the United Nations Secretariat is committed to achieving 50/50 gender balance in its staff.”
UN DDR forces operate under the intergovernmental organization’s Department of Peace Operations to “assist” the Member States, including the United States, in a boots on the ground capacity.
The job listing describes the UN’s core values as “Integrity, Professionalism, [and] Respect for Diversity.”
Applicants eager to conduct DDR “field missions” are required to have “seven years of relevant experience in disarmament affairs, political analysis or in national military or paramilitary service” and an “advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in disarmament affairs, military studies, political affairs, economics, international relations, or a related field.”
The UN describes the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration protocol as “a complex process, with political, military, security, humanitarian and socio-economic dimensions.”
Key components of DDR as defined by the UN include disarming the civilian population and “the development of responsible arms management programmes” and the implementation of mass detainment camps:
Disarmament is the collection, documentation, control and disposal of small arms, ammunition, explosives and light and heavy weapons of combatants and often also of the civilian population. Disarmament also includes the development of responsible arms management .”
“The concern is whether we will spend another decade doing worthy things but not enough… and we will blow through the 1.5C mark very quickly,” Carney said in a radio program guest edited by teenage environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg.
Carney’s going to be employed by the UN as the special envoy for climate change. He’s basically saying you can’t invest in oil and gas anymore.
Of course if you have invested in “renewables” you want profits, dontcha?
Not in a quatrain I’ll predict that Extinction Rebellion mofo’s will become even more belligerent and obstructive this year.
The Argyle Mine in remote western Australia will close in 2020. The loss of production could lead to renewed exploration in other places including Canada as the price of raw diamonds is expected to rise.
The problem is, in Canada, governments and indigenous groups can’t come to an agreement on mining and this dissuades companies from risking precious exploration dollars in Canada’s remote north. For example, Ontario’s only diamond mine recently closed and is being decommissioned despite the fact that it is only one of eighteen discovered kimberlites in the area and one of two that were originally green-lighted as being economic (the other being Tango). Exploration near the Victor Mine is virtually nonexistent right now.
DeBeers “has spent $2.6 billion to build and operate the mine, of which $820 million has gone to Indigenous and local businesses in northern Ontario. In addition, it paid C$110 million in royalties to the government of Ontario and another C$100 million in corporate social investment and payments to communities.”
The mining industry has been kicked in the nuts for several years now, despite the amount of money it puts into the economy. Many mines in Canada are nearing their end-life – very large mines such as Kidd Creek, Thompson and Flin Flon. Closure of such mines will lead to funding pressures within the local communities (for basic things such as snow plowing, clean water, sewage) that will increasingly require money from the larger urban centers (e.g. Toronto, Winnipeg). Meanwhile the Manitoba government has been reducing funding to its mining division to the point where junior explorers face long delays in even registering mineral exploration licenses (MELs). They can’t spend any money until the licenses are issued which delays exploration and any discoveries, only adding to the problem of lost revenue. This is a problem that starts slowly but has long-lasting effects (it now takes about 15 years from discovery to open a mine in Canada).
Luckily the Chinese have been investing heavily in countries such as Africa so we will continue to have access to minerals containing nickel, cobalt, platinum etc even if they aren’t mined by Canadians and we don’t see any of the benefits from exporting our resources. Such is the bed we’ve made.
It also means a loss of expertise and a loss of manufacturing for equipment needed.
Ironically the We Were Here First Nation extortionists will suffer the most.
This is my favourite version since we bought the CD a few years ago.

Climate change and colonialism…
“Climate change had arrived at this island [Tasmania] near the bottom of the world, and the giant kelp that flourished in its cold waters was among the first things to go.”
“But that was before British colonizers took their [aboriginals] land and deployed an apartheid-like system to wipe them out.”
That was a harsh turn. Send the bloody prisoners back to England. But can we keep the wineries? And why so many tourists on the Great Barrier Reef?
Funny, when I Google “great barrier reef tours” it’s all fun in the sun. But when I Google “stop great barrier reef tours” I get the same links. I guess there’s no stopping them. Kind of like British vintage cars.
“British archaeologists [in the 19th century] adhered to junk science that said Aboriginals were the last link between humans and apes.”
“Junk,” obviously, because it suggested the white feller was superior to the Aboriginals—never mind that that superiority was obvious to anybody with any interest in reality. If the Tasmanian Abos had been the equal of the white men, there might be at least a few full-blooded ones left.

Meanwhile, I’m observing an annual personal tradition by watching my copy of Back to the Future.
In the image at the link it shows that the sun is a long way from Uranus. Not long enough away for Josh Brolin, though.

It occurred to me that if he was to star in a time-travel movie, would it be entitled Blackface to the Future?
