The federal government has approved a Chinese state-owned oil company to explore for oil off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Last week, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) received permission to explore for oil in the Flemish Pass Basin, an area of open ocean 400km east of Newfoundland.
“The decision was made following a thorough and science-based environmental assessment process concluding that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects when mitigation measures are taken into account,” the federal government said.
I want a new country.
I wonder if the Quebec Pension Plan has any money invested in CNOOC Limited (listed on Hong Kong exchange). Or if Chrétien, Morneau, etc. are investors.

Why is this necessary? The try their damnedest to destroy the Canadian oilpatch and then invite in the yellow commies to take over. If they hadn’t deliberately destroyed the oilpatch, likely $100 billion more investment would be working in Canada. And we know the environment is the last thing on Chinese minds.
They only did their damnedest to destroy the Alberta oil patch (and Saskatchewan’s as collateral damage). They never uttered a peep about the eastern oil patch or tankers.
Two reasons for this hypocrisy – they know we need the oil and they also need the votes garnered from fighting climate change and demonizing the oil industry. They don’t get many votes in Alberta or Saskatchewan but they get lots in the east.
No Dirtdude, they harvest cash from Saskabertans, to buy votes in the east. And the garbage down east is more than happy to sell us out to Red China. We need to escape this joke of a Confederation, so our children and grandchildren might be able to live on the prairies. A new Free Republic needs to be erected on the prairies, and we MIGHT be able to prosper once more. It will not happen for Albertans and Saskatchewaians within Confederation EVER AGAIN.

Canada doesn’t have any jurisdiction over the seabed 400km off the coast. Seems to be a bit of misdirection.
West coast oil tankers apparently are immensely dangerous to all sea life, especially whales, especially newer tankers. Despite being new ships, apparently their guidance systems are just not capable of avoiding crashing into shorelines.
East coast oil tankers, on the other hand, are magical. No sea life is ever harmed (no that’s not a whale hung up on the bulkhead, its an ornament!), and their guidance systems are perfect, never hitting anything. Their stack only emits unicorn farts and pixie dust.
And the oil from the seabed? Again, it must be a magical systance of no harm and no CO2 emissions whatsoever. Boy oh boy, that east coast does have some fantasticly different and better environmental safety outputs than we can get on the west coast………/sarc

The left Coast has a 40 year old ban on off-shore exploration that no provincial government has had the spine to revoke. Same goes for Uranium anywhere in BC. Meanwhile it’s business as usual off the Librano East Coast. I’m guessing the Chicom Oil “Company” has an exemption (quid pro quo for a donation to the Spawns “foundation”?) from Bill C-69 otherwise no one would explore with no hope of egress.
I can hardly wait for the West to run a separatist party with the goal to get the West or Quebec to separate, leaving the Librano voting East Coast stranded from their welfare sources.
