      Trying to market Low Falling Number Wheat is a challenge.
      NW Sask is full of low FN Wheat.

      Keep this in mind. Western Canadian wheat is a PREMIUM blending wheat used around the world to help lesser quality wheat get milled for baking.
      There are a lot or differing opinions about the cause.
      No one is enirely sure if it’s an early season frost (Aug 12-14), cool growing conditions for the year or the wet fall. ( I am leaning toward the early frost based on my observations)

          As for Huawei equipment and security concerns………..Huawei makes many different components of a communication system. Some equipment is in the core of the system, some as intermediate points, some at the end. Some of the equipment is “dumb”, passive receivers, should they be banned? Some equipment has no gateway to the hub of systems, should it be banned? Core equipment? Yeah maybe. CSIS is involved in testing of all equipment, and the comm companies rigourously test all proposed equipment too…….anyone think the companies want their systems for foreign spying?

          This “fight” over Huawei may be more economic than about security.

  9. It turns out there is something the U.S. can do about Hong Kong.
    Hong Kong holds a special trade status with the U.S. and is exempt from tariffs placed on China. This is because of the supposedly autonomous nature of Hong Kong. It makes sense that if that really isn’t true then Hong Kong imports should not be exempt. President Trump just signed into law a bill that says that. This is truly a bipartisan bill, passing both the Democratic House and the Republican Senate. It requires an annual review of that autonomy.

      The formerly developed areas of China must then be opened for settlement by westerners hoping to start new lives and willing to work hard to make of Asia the free, prosperous continent it should be.

      That is why the globalists do not want President Trump to be permitted to rule. Left to his own devices he would already have turned most of urban China to radioactive ash. A lot of powerful, wealthy, wicked people would have seen their business models literally disappear in a puff of smoke.

      It’s hard to think of a scenario where China is laid low but Hong Kong survives with its wealth more or less intact.

  13. It’s our Thanksgiving Day here in the USA. I have many things to be thankful for, as I do every year. One of them is the good people here, from Kate and the other posters to the commenters. Last year, some of the commenters thought that I thought simply that Canadians were better-behaved than Americans. That’s not what I think. I’ve known my share of rude Canadians (“You’re a Usanian. America is a continent, not a country.”) It’s the people whose posts and comments I encounter here for whom I’m thankful, regardless of whether they’re Canadian, American, or anything else.

I grew up watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and then football with my dad. I gave up on the parade years ago but I still love my football, even without dad.       Well, I am back. The fix for the computer took a lot less time and money than the lady at the Best Buy Geek Squad counter said. As I thought, it was an obvious problem. Most of the time taken was to send my laptop to the hardware repair center (they only do software problems in house.)
      Call me a racist and a sexist. But if that black lady at the counter really were a Geek Squader, who actives works to fix software problems, rather than just a receptionist who put on air, then she would be literally one in a thousand.
      I am not saying it is impossible. My two sisters have degrees in Math and BSEE. The former worked as a programmer, and the latter worked at AT&T as an engineer for decades. My best friend in college is black, and he has a degree in Math and worked at IBM his whole career. And a black girl and a black guy were two of the people I have found I could rely on in my career. But still, they are few and far in between.

We had snow over the last few days, here in Calgary and it is like the Christmas season here, that is, eastern Christmas not California Christmas. More like what Denver got in the last few days, if you’ve have been watching the news. When the weather makes it into the news reports – you know it’s bad.

        1. Thank you for asking, the laptop is working fine so far.
          It’s been unseasonably cold and rainy here. Today’s high was 50 (10 C) and low was 44 (3 C).
          As is par for me, I usually prefer the novel rather than the movie, even those books I have read after being inspired by the movie (Thirty Nine Steps, for example.) I am glad for the Whimsy movies, because they do bring the books to live, and it’s been so long since I read the books I don’t see rewriting too objectionable. But there are a lot more of the books, and I think you will enjoy reading them, chronologically. They progress all the way to when Peter really became Duke, and his (and Harriet’s of course) son and Bunter’s son are grown and have become best friends.
          Well, this is my sports report covering the lost period. It’s more up Kenji’s alley, I know. But you asked.
          Whatever dreams about the Bruins FB team evaporated with the demolishing by Utah and the lost to ugh SUC (that is an acronym of USC). In the meantime Cal has prospered and is already bowl eligible. We can only look forward to derailing them a little.
          Reality also struck the Bruins BB team, even though what should you expect. We lost our three top scorers, two top rebounders, and two top assist men in the three players who declared early for the draft last year. Our replacement redshirt frosh pg may eventually turn out to be okay, but he is small and definitely needs seasoning, even then he won’t be Lonzo Ball. And we have a new coach. In the long run I believe we can still be on the right road, but too much to expect anything from this year.
          What is it about Napoli that strikes fear in the hearts of Liverpool? I really don’t get it. Napoli got three points out of their last four Serie A matches, and got four from Liverpool in two matches. Liverpool blew a royal chance to effectively eliminate a December game from its busy schedule. (Beat Napoli and Liverpool would have won the group with one game in hand, and can play all reserves in the Salzburg match, which they now have to at least draw and preferably win.) But nothing has been really lost, we (Liverpool) can still win the group, and Manchester City is definitely looking at a much more of a stern test in December. Who knows, by the time the Manchester City – Leicester City match comes around, we may be rooting for the former city to slow down the latter city. Injuries, not season ending but nagging, have had their effect, and may force Klopp to rotate the formation (starting lineup) whether he wants to or not.

      1. The issue in a political party is loyalty. There will be MP’s in the CPC who have been in the trenches and resent Alleslev – see her as an undeserving interloper. There will be fallout over this move. It will not be seen as unifying or consensus building.

        He is going to face a confidence vote in the spring. If he thinks he has a chance of sticking around you’d think he would be reaching out. I get it that he doesn’t have much to pick from. He’s from the west and can’t take another MP from western Canada. The optics and the politics of the pick are not right.

        I have no skin in this game. I don’t care what Sheer does one way or another.

          I’ve never owned a dog that didn’t eat cats. Had a wife like that at one time as well. We lived out in the buck brush where the towneys used to ‘drop off cats’. The cats would eventually end up at the farm where she would introduce them to the business end of the 870.

          I never really dwelt on the reason why everything I’m around hates cats. Maybe it’s me, I dunno….. naw

          1. I never owned a cat. Well except one that my Granddaughter guilted me into, it had deformed extra claws.
            I trained it as an outside dog. It followed me everywhere like a dog outside checking calves etc. Except it would walk along the wooden fences out of the snow. It never came inside, barn cat. When she had kittens, one time they had these deformed claws as well.
            When she weened them I took them to Edmonton in a box, and while the women were shopping I put out a sign. This nice Chinese family showed up. And I told them they were Himalayan Lucky cats and showed them the paws. In 5 minutes I had a line up of Chinese people and all the kittens were gone.
            My old cattle dog ate all the neighbors cats that came in the yard. He even ate a live whole Pidgeon, he caught in a shed. Laugh my ass off, he looked like a Komodo Dragon wolfing down that bird.
            I could write a book about that dog. This will offend Gaiaiai lovers here I know.
            When the cows would calve he would grab the frozen afterbirth and eat that, kids would say.
            Dad Rollies got another afterbirth, and I would say no he’s got a frozen pizza. Ha Ha Ha
            It actually was good because I ranched in an area over run with Timber Wolves and yodel dogs.
            Son was after deer again today, saw a Big Black Timber wolf at 5-600 yds, had his dirty aught so did not shoot. After deer season we are going after wolves and coyotes. I would sooner hunt them than deer. I am spoiled like my elk and moose meat.

        2. I thought I was going to maintain a low profile for longer, but the video of the dachshund chariot was irresistible. The dackeln remind me of my “step-brother”, who is also a short-hair but with lighter fur.

          Speaking of which, he bunked with me for a few days last month. He turned 10 nearly 6 weeks ago and, since I hadn’t seen him since last December, I thought we needed to spend some time together.

          We had a lot of fun, though he did leave his calling card on the carpet on occasion. His fur is now showing streaks of grey, but his energy and mischief haven’t diminished. Even at his age, he could certainly keep up with the critters in the video.

          When his “Mummy” came to pick him up, she mentioned that they could tell that he wasn’t around because the house was so quiet. Instead, he made sure that the neighbourhood around my place knew he was back on his old stomping grounds. He was reluctant to leave my house and I’m sure he wouldn’t have minded if I came along.

  36. Ontario high school teachers are going on a one day strike next week. They are doing it for the kids. Union is upset at the 1% wage hike per year legislation. Teachers only make an average of ninety thousand dollars a year plus benefits. They are starving in the streets and only can afford one vacation trip to Cuba a year. They are also upset that the Ministry of Education makes decisions without getting permission from the teacher unions first. Ford is Hitler. I wonder where their hero Blackie is. He ranted during the election against Ford’s education cuts and said he would intervene.
